My bow and arrows do quite a lot. not sure how much but I think it's around the 100 area. Not maxed my archery skill yet either.

I'll probably play through as a mage one day.

my magicka problem is solved by completing the quests of the winterhold college as they've given me the robe of the arch mage and my magicka recovers in 15 secs. Also I have my own room there now and they're treating me like a god :P.

There's something you can get from there which reduces spell cost by 25%. You can disenchant it and enchant your armour with it so you can cast spells without magicka going down at all.

Any tips for a newbie to this? Bought this on Steam today and having only previously played Oblivion for the best part of 30 minutes before my Xbox broke and even then I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing. I'm just after any hints/tips on what to do and what not to do, any particular classes worth choosing, etc?

I'll probably spend more time taking in the scenery rather than doing quests :p

Find a race you like and start playing. The game is much more balanced than Oblivion when it comes to races. Just listen to every detail of quests and enjoy.

When you go into towns for the first time, you will see these "live cut scenes" (as I call them) where an argument (usually) will be taking place. Just stand there and listen to them and usually you can offer some assistance/input on the situation the NPC's are discussing and maybe pick up a quest or two.

So I've put about 150 hours into Skyrim - and I'm almost out of things to do, I have a few more deadric artifacts to get and I need the rest of the stones of Benzeriah (sp?) and I'm pretty much done. I'd like some DLC to be announced...

Nah, you'll have loads left to do, you just need to find the stuff!

There are always quests to do as they are randomly generated although some may get a bit repetitive after a while.

Not much left lol... I've done soooo many side quests I've run out.

command children to fight for you[/url].
I have 3 characters... all different play styles... :D I'm keeping myself entertained however.

Buy them in Alchemy shops. Much easier.

Yeah I have to wait a while for them. They normally say wait 48 hours but sometimes the hearts are still not in stock then. I do travel to major towns for them.

The game is still not fully optomised yet though. I computer should have no problem at all running it yet sometimes the game hangs, stutters, and it does not support CrossFire and ATi have probably already quit trying to make it work. :(
