GTA PC :: System Tweaking Tools & Tips *Updated*

Defragment just the GTA IV Profile Folder:

Gives an average increase of ~5FPS

[Original thread]

Instructions:

[Microsoft Official Download]

Download that contig.exe file and place it in your GTA IV directory.

Then create a shortcut desktop and have a commandline at the end( -s) and it should look like this:

"X:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\Contig.exe" -s

Then run it and wait till it close's because that means it's finished it can take anywhere from 5 to 20minutes to complete depending on your system. I gained 5 fps outside and 10fps inside after this tweak.

How to play GTA IV using your generic controller:

[Original Thread]

This extremely simple guide will teach you how to emulate an xbox360 controller, because IV supports only that. Now, you can use any controller you wish (unsure about wheel and pedals).

1) Download the following archive.

2) Unpack the xinput9_1_0.dll and the xbox360cemu.ini from the archive into your gta4 dir.

3) Edit the .ini according to your personal controller, or however you may please. The .ini is initially set up to work 100% correctly with Logitech RumblePad 2.

Note: in order to understand how to edit key mappings, read the included readme.txt.

Close all unrelevant (and unimporant!) background processes:

Ctrl + Alt + Delete

R* have said htemselves, close all unimportant processes! GTA can hog a lot of memory. However, beware, closing important processes vital to the system can cause system instability and crashing.

Cache Optomising Tools:

[Original Thread]

Its pretty easy, you download CacheBoost and let it running in the system tray, it wont allow your memory to fill up and it will solve the stuttering lags after a few minutes of playtime, the textures not showing at all and some other issues.

I hope it helps you all, it surely helped me, now i can play smoothly without problems.

[Official Download - CacheBoost] - Free 30 day trial!

[Alternative Free Downlod - Cacheman] - Free, no payments, no limitations!

A warning about using the beta Nvidia driver if you have a Nvidia motherboard you may loose your internet connection as I did.

Also the 180.48 driver the latest WHQL version runs a lot worst than the 178.24.

I'm going to wait for the patch and see what it runs like then have a another go at getting the best driver.

Finally a new driver for my 8600 GT, although its a beta and vista still says i have to upgrade (downgrade thanks to MS) my videocard.

I dont see much differents when running it, but it probably does increase a little bit.

I'm not the only one with those ugly shadows ? Or am i ?

The patch from R* is done but it has to confirmed by MS (thanks again)
