    Hello everyone!

    It's been a while since we've openly shared anything about TDU World and an update was long overdue, luckily we have lots of good things to show! Over the past few months we have been working long and hard and have overcome quite a few of the biggest obstacles regarding online play. Some people might already know about some of the news since we teased it in our Discord (which you can join here if you haven't already!), but there is some more stuff to talk about... 😉
    We won't keep you waiting any longer, lets get into it! 🙂

    TDU World got a fresh new logo!
    First of all, to go with the advancements of the project, we decided on a new and more distinctive logo. The old one was lacking some emotion and it was a bit boring, the new logo is set to change that! It also fits more into the TDU setting by displaying some palm trees. 😉 Here it is:

    We are currently updating all social channels to use the new logo, together with a full restyle of the launcher. Stay tuned!

    And now: The news you've been waiting for...

    Yup! you guessed it. After a long time of trial and error, we have gotten the first online interactions working! These include the following features:
    Player logins & lobbying Free roam, including: Car functionality (i.e. lights, horn, windows, exhaust sounds) Chat (including profanity filter) Co-op driving Instant Challenges (PvP Races) Voice chatting Vehicle Liveries (car colour, stickers, etc.) Dealerships & other player rooms (excluding houses) Both islands (Ibiza & O'ahu, Hawaii) Report/Banning system (All User Offenses) Traffic (AI) GPS player count Joining players via the Map All single player content like races and the timed events still works as normal Features currently in the works:
    Friends & Recent players list (works but not fully) Time & Weather (works but not fully) Further Lobbying, including but not limited to Races (Private and Matchmaking), Casino, etc. The biggest thing is of course the free roam functionality, which is working very well. Car syncing is great and smooth! We've been teasing this for an awful long time, so here's some content (proof if you will 🙂) of the servers working.

    As much as the team is working hard, it isn't all perfect yet. On that bombshell... We need the community! We're inviting a handful of players to join us with testing the server stability and functionality as well as get a first peek into the TDU World Mod Pack!

    TDU World Closed Beta Testing
    In line with the progress we have been making recently, the time has come to recruit some beta testers to ensure everything so far is working correctly!
    Due to the complexity of the project and the sheer amount of feedback we will receive, the TDU World Community Server Beta will be limited to 20 people.
    We will be needing members of the community to test the new server, launcher and mod pack and relay data back to us when you find something funky, or plain broken.
    To participate, we require the following things:
    Active contribution Be online often during testing Networking Opening ports in your router Using WireShark to log the communication between your game and the server Test Drive Unlimited 2 A legitimate copy, either retail or Steam. Time to play through part of the game Testing the server stability and mod pack additions Testing car class balance English language Speaking and understanding is a must If you check all of these boxes, you can submit an application here (Click "Here")
    After we've chosen the 20 players out of all submission, we will be contacting them through Discord (be sure to allow personal messages during this time!). Please do not message any members of the team about the beta access or ask for any updates on the situation.
    We do not yet know when the beta testing will start. When we have selected a date, we will update everyone!

    TDU World now has a Patreon!
    We've been constantly asked by the community if we will be accepting donations from avid TDU fans who want to support us, and now we can finally say yes! 
    We have chosen to go with Patreon as our platform to accept donations on. There will be three tiers you can sign up to, outlined below:
    Tier 1: £5.00 per month - Special "TDU World Fan" Discord title, bonus work-in-progress content Tier 2: £10.00 per month - Special "TDU World Super Fan" Discord title, bonus work-in-progress content, a TDU World sticker! Tier 3: £25.00 per month - Special "TDU World Ultra Fan" Discord title, bonus work-in-progress content, personalized Thank You Letter and a TDU World sticker & TDU World T-Shirt1! 1 - T-Shirts are only available for patrons who have subscribed for 3 consecutive months.

    The TDU World Mod Pack
    We recently acquired some new members to start work on the TDU World Mod Pack. The goal with this mod pack is to make Test Drive Unlimited 2 feel like a modern game again. This means new music, new textures and perhaps most importantly: an updated car list. The pack will be split up into multiple parts: Cars, Environment, Sound and of course, a Full pack consisting of all parts. Below, we will go over these parts.
    Cars
    Considering how the world of automobiles has evolved since the creation of TDU2 and how many different vehicles have broken records and changed the rules, the car classes are getting fully rebalanced to be better suited for the new cars we are introducing. We did this not by nerfing (slowing down) the original cars, but by putting them against cars that really do match them in performance, whether they were cars from the original game or TDU World additions. For example: the Subaru Impreza is not going to make A6 look like a walk in the park any longer. Instead, it will face tougher competition!
    The cars we will be adding are not just a combination of existing mods, we are also creating new high quality mods ourselves to accompany them. The new mods we are creating mostly consist of recent and brand new models from countries like Britain, Italy and Germany. While the new mods we are creating will be of high quality, we will also be keeping low end systems in mind.
    Here is a little sneak peek on some of the vehicles that will be added!



    Environment
    For the games' graphics, we will be using a combination of existing mods to bring more life into the islands and make them look less dated.
    For now we have selected mods for roads, foliage and clouds. We will also be tweaking the in game settings to allow for higher quality shadows, and better draw distance for instance. The tweaks we will be doing here are not set in stone yet and requires more research to see the possibilities.



    Sound
    We will be replacing the radio stations to feature new songs, and if possible, we might even add new radio stations! Music for the map, start screen etc. will also be changed.

    Again, these packs are all optional.
    In the end, we want everyone to be running the same game, so everyone can enjoy the same cars and more importantly: have a balanced online racing experience! There will of course be people who prefer the stock experience and thus, we will not require use of the modpack. We will, however, be sure everyone runs the same balanced database so all cars will be in the correct classes.
     
    Looking for a sound designer!
    For the mod pack, we also want to overhaul some of the car sounds in the game. These are kind of lacking and remove some of the immersion while driving. The thing is, we currently do not have a member in our team who is able to create high quality sound mods for cars. Therefore, we give the community a chance to apply!

    We recently acquired some new members to start work on the TDU World Mod Pack. The goal with this mod pack is to make Test Drive Unlimited 2 feel like a modern game again. This means new music, new textures and perhaps most importantly: an updated car list. The pack will be split up into multiple parts: Cars, Environment, Sound and of course, a Full pack consisting of all parts. Below, we will go over these parts.
    Cars
    Considering how the world of automobiles has evolved since the creation of TDU2 and how many different vehicles have broken records and changed the rules, the car classes are getting fully rebalanced to be better suited for the new cars we are introducing. We did this not by nerfing (slowing down) the original cars, but by putting them against cars that really do match them in performance, whether they were cars from the original game or TDU World additions. For example: the Subaru Impreza is not going to make A6 look like a walk in the park any longer. Instead, it will face tougher competition!
    The cars we will be adding are not just a combination of existing mods, we are also creating new high quality mods ourselves to accompany them. The new mods we are creating mostly consist of recent and brand new models from countries like Britain, Italy and Germany. While the new mods we are creating will be of high quality, we will also be keeping low end systems in mind.
    Here is a little sneak peek on some of the vehicles that will be added!



    Environment
    For the games' graphics, we will be using a combination of existing mods to bring more life into the islands and make them look less dated.
    For now we have selected mods for roads, foliage and clouds. We will also be tweaking the in game settings to allow for higher quality shadows, and better draw distance for instance. The tweaks we will be doing here are not set in stone yet and requires more research to see the possibilities.



    Sound
    We will be replacing the radio stations to feature new songs, and if possible, we might even add new radio stations! Music for the map, start screen etc. will also be changed.

    Again, these packs are all optional.
    In the end, we want everyone to be running the same game, so everyone can enjoy the same cars and more importantly: have a balanced online racing experience! There will of course be people who prefer the stock experience and thus, we will not require use of the modpack. We will, however, be sure everyone runs the same balanced database so all cars will be in the correct classes.
     
    Looking for a sound designer!
    For the mod pack, we also want to overhaul some of the car sounds in the game. These are kind of lacking and remove some of the immersion while driving. The thing is, we currently do not have a member in our team who is able to create high quality sound mods for cars. Therefore, we give the community a chance to apply!

    It's been a while since we've openly shared anything about TDU World and an update was long overdue, luckily we have lots of good things to show! Over the past few months we have been working long and hard and have overcome quite a few of the biggest obstacles regarding online play.     TDU World got a fresh new logo!
    First of all, to go with the advancements of the project, we decided on a new and more distinctive logo. The old one was lacking some emotion and it was a bit boring, the new logo is set to change that! It also fits more into the TDU setting by displaying some palm trees. 😉 Here it is:

    We are currently updating all social channels to use the new logo, together with a full restyle of the launcher. Stay tuned!

    And now: The news you've been waiting for...

    Yup! you guessed it. After a long time of trial and error, we have gotten the first online interactions working! These include the following features:
    Player logins & lobbying Free roam, including: Car functionality (i.e. lights, horn, windows, exhaust sounds) Chat (including profanity filter) Co-op driving Instant Challenges (PvP Races) Voice chatting Vehicle Liveries (car colour, stickers, etc.) Dealerships & other player rooms (excluding houses) Both islands (Ibiza & O'ahu, Hawaii) Report/Banning system (All User Offenses) Traffic (AI) GPS player count Joining players via the Map All single player content like races and the timed events still works as normal Features currently in the works:
    Friends & Recent players list (works but not fully) Time & Weather (works but not fully) Further Lobbying, including but not limited to Races (Private and Matchmaking), Casino, etc. The biggest thing is of course the free roam functionality, which is working very well. Car syncing is great and smooth! We've been teasing this for an awful long time, so here's some content (proof if you will 🙂) of the servers working.

    As much as the team is working hard, it isn't all perfect yet. On that bombshell... We need the community! We're inviting a handful of players to join us with testing the server stability and functionality as well as get a first peek into the TDU World Mod Pack!

    TDU World Closed Beta Testing
    In line with the progress we have been making recently, the time has come to recruit some beta testers to ensure everything so far is working correctly!
    Due to the complexity of the project and the sheer amount of feedback we will receive, the TDU World Community Server Beta will be limited to 20 people.
    We will be needing members of the community to test the new server, launcher and mod pack and relay data back to us when you find something funky, or plain broken.
    To participate, we require the following things:
    Active contribution Be online often during testing Networking Opening ports in your router Using WireShark to log the communication between your game and the server Test Drive Unlimited 2 A legitimate copy, either retail or Steam. Time to play through part of the game Testing the server stability and mod pack additions Testing car class balance English language Speaking and understanding is a must If you check all of these boxes, you can submit an application here (Click "Here")
    After we've chosen the 20 players out of all submission, we will be contacting them through Discord (be sure to allow personal messages during this time!). Please do not message any members of the team about the beta access or ask for any updates on the situation.
    We do not yet know when the beta testing will start. When we have selected a date, we will update everyone!

    We've been constantly asked by the community if we will be accepting donations from avid TDU fans who want to support us, and now we can finally say yes! 
    We have chosen to go with Patreon as our platform to accept donations on. There will be three tiers you can sign up to, outlined below:

    In line with the progress we have been making recently, the time has come to recruit some beta testers to ensure everything so far is working correctly!
    Due to the complexity of the project and the sheer amount of feedback we will receive, the TDU World Community Server Beta will be limited to 20 people.
    We will be needing members of the community to test the new server, launcher and mod pack and relay data back to us when you find something funky, or plain broken.
    To participate, we require the following things:

    The TDU World Mod Pack
    We recently acquired some new members to start work on the TDU World Mod Pack. The goal with this mod pack is to make Test Drive Unlimited 2 feel like a modern game again. This means new music, new textures and perhaps most importantly: an updated car list. The pack will be split up into multiple parts: Cars, Environment, Sound and of course, a Full pack consisting of all parts. Below, we will go over these parts.
    Cars
    Considering how the world of automobiles has evolved since the creation of TDU2 and how many different vehicles have broken records and changed the rules, the car classes are getting fully rebalanced to be better suited for the new cars we are introducing. We did this not by nerfing (slowing down) the original cars, but by putting them against cars that really do match them in performance, whether they were cars from the original game or TDU World additions. For example: the Subaru Impreza is not going to make A6 look like a walk in the park any longer. Instead, it will face tougher competition!
    The cars we will be adding are not just a combination of existing mods, we are also creating new high quality mods ourselves to accompany them. The new mods we are creating mostly consist of recent and brand new models from countries like Britain, Italy and Germany. While the new mods we are creating will be of high quality, we will also be keeping low end systems in mind.
    Here is a little sneak peek on some of the vehicles that will be added!



    Environment
    For the games' graphics, we will be using a combination of existing mods to bring more life into the islands and make them look less dated.
    For now we have selected mods for roads, foliage and clouds. We will also be tweaking the in game settings to allow for higher quality shadows, and better draw distance for instance. The tweaks we will be doing here are not set in stone yet and requires more research to see the possibilities.



    Sound
    We will be replacing the radio stations to feature new songs, and if possible, we might even add new radio stations! Music for the map, start screen etc. will also be changed.

    Again, these packs are all optional.
    In the end, we want everyone to be running the same game, so everyone can enjoy the same cars and more importantly: have a balanced online racing experience! There will of course be people who prefer the stock experience and thus, we will not require use of the modpack. We will, however, be sure everyone runs the same balanced database so all cars will be in the correct classes.
     
    Looking for a sound designer!
    For the mod pack, we also want to overhaul some of the car sounds in the game. These are kind of lacking and remove some of the immersion while driving. The thing is, we currently do not have a member in our team who is able to create high quality sound mods for cars. Therefore, we give the community a chance to apply!

    Hello everyone!

    It's been a while since we've openly shared anything about TDU World and an update was long overdue, luckily we have lots of good things to show! Over the past few months we have been working long and hard and have overcome quite a few of the biggest obstacles regarding online play. Some people might already know about some of the news since we teased it in our Discord (which you can join here if you haven't already!), but there is some more stuff to talk about... 😉
    We won't keep you waiting any longer, lets get into it! 🙂

    TDU World got a fresh new logo!
    First of all, to go with the advancements of the project, we decided on a new and more distinctive logo. The old one was lacking some emotion and it was a bit boring, the new logo is set to change that! It also fits more into the TDU setting by displaying some palm trees. 😉 Here it is:

    We are currently updating all social channels to use the new logo, together with a full restyle of the launcher. Stay tuned!

    And now: The news you've been waiting for...

    Yup! you guessed it. After a long time of trial and error, we have gotten the first online interactions working! These include the following features:
    Player logins & lobbying Free roam, including: Car functionality (i.e. lights, horn, windows, exhaust sounds) Chat (including profanity filter) Co-op driving Instant Challenges (PvP Races) Voice chatting Vehicle Liveries (car colour, stickers, etc.) Dealerships & other player rooms (excluding houses) Both islands (Ibiza & O'ahu, Hawaii) Report/Banning system (All User Offenses) Traffic (AI) GPS player count Joining players via the Map All single player content like races and the timed events still works as normal Features currently in the works:
    Friends & Recent players list (works but not fully) Time & Weather (works but not fully) Further Lobbying, including but not limited to Races (Private and Matchmaking), Casino, etc. The biggest thing is of course the free roam functionality, which is working very well. Car syncing is great and smooth! We've been teasing this for an awful long time, so here's some content (proof if you will 🙂) of the servers working.

    As much as the team is working hard, it isn't all perfect yet. On that bombshell... We need the community! We're inviting a handful of players to join us with testing the server stability and functionality as well as get a first peek into the TDU World Mod Pack!

    I'm not sure I understood the question correctly.
    If we are talking about the fact that in the original TDU2 cars turn too sharply, then I will answer like this:
    - I tried my best to make keyboard physics as smooth as possible! However, this smoothness exists both when the rudder is turned and when the rudder is returned to zero. That's exactly what you have to get used to, as I wrote in the description of keyboard physics.
    - with the steering (900 degrees steering wheel) physics, everything is now perfect in my opinion. The steering is very smooth and at the same time can be sharp if you turn the steering wheel abruptly. Unfortunately, I cannot film how I turn the steering wheel and how the car behaves at this moment. The player will have to install this physics, adjust the controllability in the game menu (as shown in the screenshots in the configurator), and then understand for himself whether the controllability is normal or not.
    - I didn't do much physics with the steering (180 degrees steering wheel), because this is a very bad steering wheel. However, I tried to bring driving with such a steering wheel closer to driving with a steering wheel of 900 degrees. There, now, too, the car should not be thrown into a turn, when the steering wheel is turned 5 degrees. 🙂
    In addition, one must also take into account that I am not playing pure TDU2. In my mod, all the cars are reconfigured so that they go according to their parameters. Also, the suspension, aerodynamics, power parameters, handling, etc. have been reconfigured ... However, these are fine settings that only make each car unique, but do not globally affect handling.
    I am afraid that I will not be able to convey all these feelings of riding on my physics in words. You have to try everything! If you have any suggestions, then I will try to help or explain how any parameters from the physics file or from the machine settings in the VPE work.

    No. The mod replaces only the global textures of the islands, such as flora, roads, some material textures.
    I doubt that I will have the patience to go through all the areas and replace all textures there with better ones. Moreover, right now I have a lot of work on my main modding game - Stalker.
    However, I do not exclude that after the new year I will go through all areas and improve both terrain and all textures of materials. Everything will depend on employment in other projects.

    One player runs and tries to reach the destination, along a loosely-defined route up the east coast.  The other players chase and try to stop the suspect.  If one suspect fails, another takes his place.

    Preparation
    Before attempting to join on Sunday, please make sure:
    The game and Platinum mod are installed, patched, and launch correctly. You are able to sign in to your online profile. You have purchased a car that suits the theme and performance group described below. You have download and installed the pursuit bookmark files available here.  You know how to use the in-game menu to lock to nearby players and know how to load bookmarks without using the map. You know where the finish point is and how to navigate there without GPS spoken/visual directions. Join us on the TurboDuck.net Discord server and post your Discord nickname below so we can make sure you've got access to voice chat (if you would like to use it).  https://discord.gg/KcF9CZU Say hi on the #tdu Discord channel just before the event is due to start.  
    Meet Location
    East coast of O'ahu at the first bookmark location (on the beach).  We will make sure we all connect and then lock our session.  We will not be using hardcore mode so that all vehicles have similar mass and gravity and are not disadvantaged when trying to block or ram other player vehicles.

     
    Car Class / Theme
    Select any sedan/saloon or coupe from within Group D that could reasonably be used as an undercover police car in real life in Europe or the USA. Make sure the car you select drives and brakes well and doesn't waste too much time spinning its wheels. You may wish to consider that heavier vehicles will be better at stopping suspects.   If tuning a vehicle, make please retain the same manufacture and performance group.  Black and/or white paint colours are preferred (even for the suspect, since we'll take turns if time permits).
     
    What to expect
    AlexVII and I will be filming the event for YouTube.  Specific intros/endings/please to subscribe, etc can be recorded at another private time. We will nominate one suspect who will remain at the meeting point. The 'police' players will all begin driving on the road (which happens to be a circuit or loop), meaning both directions are acceptable.  Once spread out, police will drive at traffic or patrol speeds. A minute or two later, the suspect will begin driving down the road in either direction (since the road loops around).  They will find the main road and proceed north and loosely follow the route shown above. Police may not speed up, swerve, or otherwise engage the suspect until after the suspect has driven past them, regardless of if they are driving in the same or opposite direction to you.  The suspect may not drive off-road during this phase to avoid detection. All players are encouraged to keep their HUD (mini-map and player names) turned on.  Turn-by-turn navigation is not permitted. All players are encouraged to use the same driving mode (either Normal or Hardcore).  Hardcore mode players are greatly disadvantaged in online pursuit chases against Normal mode players due to their vehicles having much less mass/weight.  It can be impossible for a group of hardcore-mode players to stop a suspect using Normal mode.  Police who fall behind may either try to catch up or jump ahead by pressing the P key to Pause, then load a Bookmark.  The suspect may never use a bookmark during a chase. Police players may form roadblocks ahead of the suspect using their vehicles. Similar to classic Need for Speed games, a suspect may be caught 3 times along the route before being arrested (they are arrested on the third time).  If a suspect is too hard to catch, we may decide that they need to be caught only once. If the suspect is arrested and a sufficient amount of the route remains, a new suspect can be nominated and the chase can continue from that place.  Or we can jump to the last bookmark before starting the chase in the reverse direction.  If the suspect arrives at the end of the route, they win. If a suspect must reset/return to the road, they will be required to count 'One-Mississippi, Two-Mississippi, Three-Mississippi' before they can begin moving again.  You may be better off not resetting. If a suspect is unable to move when blocked in by police for a 1 to 2 seconds, or if they crash and become stuck while a police car is directly beside/behind, or ahead and also not moving, then the player is deemed to be caught.  Police players can press T on the keyboard and type 'caught' or 'busted' or similar in that amount of time.  The suspect will cease trying to escape or reset at that time while players take in-game photos of the scene, to share here later.   The suspect will be given a 5 second head start after being caught if they have not been arrested.    
     
     
    Using the Bookmarks
    Press P or the button you have assigned to Pause

     
    Select List

     
    Click on the desired Bookmark name to teleport there without disconnecting from the locked session players.

     
    The preview photos on the right point to the direction that the suspect should be coming from, unless we are running the route in reverse, or unless the suspect is lost.  🙂

    In the game, the position of the wheels of the car is tied to its model. Even if it turns out (and this is in principle possible) to give several cars the same wheel slot, then on different models they very often occupy different positions relative to the ground. One model will have the wheels hanging above the ground, the other will sink into the ground, and the third will stay on the ground correctly. 🙂 And often on different models the wheel rim in the tire will be located differently. Somewhere it will fit into the tire normally, and somewhere it can hang freely inside the tire or sink inside it. At the same time, the settings for one ID are only one, and it simply will not work to correctly configure the wheel for several cars at once. 😞
    It would be good, but I think that you probably can't do without editing the game engine. Are there open sources of the game engine? It would be possible to add such a feature to the workshop, but I doubt that without the source of the engine, this can be done.

    Для текстур 1024, я принял решение делать только 5 ММ. Для текстур 2048 только 6. И т.д.

    И лучше это всё переделать заново из исходников! Потому-что при каждом сохранении в формат с сжатием, качество текстуры ухудшается немного!

    Попробую сделать ещё одно доброе дело...
    Посчитав для себя исправление проблемы чёрных текстур террейна вдалеке принципиальным (текстурщик я или кто? 🙂 ), я решил эту проблему. Теперь могу поделиться знанием с автором этой графической модификации!
    Правильное сохранение текстур TDU2:
    1. Создаём бэкап исходника.
    2. Открываем исходник в Фотошопе при помощи плагина для работы с DDS от NVIDIA.
    3. Вносим необходимые изменения в текстуру.
    4. Сохраняем текстуру в формате без потерь DXT 8:8:8:8 с созданием "9" MipMap (ММ) уровней текстуры.
    5. Закрываем текстуру.
    6. Открываем эту текстуру с открытием всех созданных ранее ММ уровней.
    7. Сохраняем текстуру в нужном рендеру формате DXT с сохранением созданных ранее ММ уровней, но оставляем только "8" ММ уровней.
    8. Конвертируем текстуру, запаковываем и отправляем текстуру в игру.
    В случае такого метода сохранения текстуры, мы больше не будем видеть черноту вдалеке! 😉 В принципе, так следует сохранять все текстуры в игре, но особенно это важно для текстур террейна, так-как они очень быстро переключают ММ уровни, потому-что они очень часто под очень маленькими углами вида камеры).
    Спасибо разработчикам игры за настолько кривой рендер, который не умеет правильно работать со всеми возможностями текстурирования! Хотя есть игры, которые созданы сильно раньше TDU2 и которые уже тогда могли использовать все возможности текстур... 🙂
    Рекомендую автору данной графической модификации исправить данную проблему с почернением текстур. Это всем пойдёт на пользу! 😉
    Ну, в общем, сейчас покажу это всё в видео-уроке. Причём, покажу и что будет, если сохранять текстуры обычным способом с созданием всех ММ уровней.
    Разумеется, изменения в текстуре были лишь для того, чтобы провести тест и всё показать. Теперь она летит в помойку... 🙂
    Я, в своей глобальной модификации уже исправил все текстуры таким образом. И могу выложить тут графическую часть своей игры, если администраторы не будут вставлять мне палки в колёса. Или будете? 😄

    Mate do the entire community a favor and never come back. If you want a game like this go buy forza or TDU3 when it comes out. I don’t understand why some people have the nerve to feel this entitled. This mod is simply not for you. You don’t like a lot of things that can really be fixed by actually purchasing a current gen game, so do that instead of demotivating these amazing people who have given an old game so much replay value and so much life.
