If you've recently (as in 6 months?) bought your PS3, there isn't backwards compatability

I think the lower original model PS3's (40gb?) also failed to have the backwards compatability. Only the 60gb (I think) versions had it. But IIRC, that's now been removed from the newer batches.

 

If you want to play PS2 games, buy a PS2, they're only around £50 now i think

Yea, the launch 60GB units had the hardware to play older games. This was removed from the later 40GB models and replaced with software emulation which was at best flakey and only covered the most popular titles.

 

These days I don't know where you stand.

 

I don't think it's a huge deal, after all I went from a PS2 with 80+ games to a 360 lol.

even the original 60gb ps3 has trouble with some ps2 titles.

tekken tag tournament crawls along at snails pace and good luck getting much more than gibberish from soulcalibur 3...

 

i agree - pick up a slim ps2.

i have one on standby.

you can even run it using hd comp cables :)
