Laggy mouse

A few days ago I started encountering an odd problem with my mouse, the cursor freezes for a second or two every now and then and sometimes it does it every 5 seconds, sometimes every 30 seconds and sometimes every 3 hours. It happens everywhere (desktop right after boot, gaming for hours) and it's occasional as sometimes it can go hours without any problems and then starts lagging like hell. Does anyone know what's going on with it?

It's wired and thus, has no power button :p I have tried swapping the USB ports though and nothing happened :hmmm:

In which case there is only one option. Unplug the mouse, beat an old lady to death with it and throw it in the ocean.

Maybe the trackers in your mouse are dying. Got another laying around that you could plug in and try for a few days? If it stops with a new mouse, well there's your problem.
