You will be supplied with all the cables you need. And If you are going to be playing anything bigger than TDU, I would suggest 4 gig. Since 4 gig of ram is now becoming standard on most gaming rigs. Since vista does recommend 2gigs imo would double so that it would give you more space to be free and such. For about $1000 american its decent. But save just a little more to well equip yourself for anything coming out that you may want. And also look into overclocking your CPU, ram and GPU. Your fan is really nice and recommended for good overclocking. And the Antec case imo does not have adquet cooling, IF possible get another fan, IF possible.

Happy building and I hope you will be very happy with your new setup.

Thanks both.

@ KS, I was thinking of upping to 4gb in the near future yes, but got 2gb just for now to make it seem less money for me to spend at once :p That is why I got the 64bit Vista to allow the upgrade.

Also, I take it I don't need thermal paste for the CPU or do I seeing as it's OEM?

Don't know if thermal paste comes with the CPU, but usually it comes with the aftermarket cooler.

That cooler comes with it preapplied. You just remove the plastic sheet and plonk it on. It'll cool well enough straight away, but a couple of weeks of use later and the compound tempers so the cooling will improve further.

Unless someone's being an idiot then I don't usually comment on specs after they've been bought - no point really as what's bought is bought. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it anyway :)

It all arrived today. SCAN, Ebuyer and OCUK coming in the same City Link Van. Dad gets back from Holland tonight and said he would like to (in other words needs) to be there when it's built. So will be doing it tomorrow evening =]

atm everything is almost unpacked on my desk ready and I've read the instructions manuals about twice each xD

Also, thanks Nodz =]

I've already decided I need to buy another internal fan for it as I miss-read "internal fan mount" to it actually coming with one =[

I doubt you'll actually need it. Turbulence is the bane of good case airflow, and more fans usually means more turbulence. One rear-exhausting 120mm fan together with an exhausting PSU is all that most case layouts need.

You got ripped off with the Graphics card in my opinion, should have gone for the Ati HD 4800 Series.

Another thing too, I recently last week built a PC for my friend, £1000 gaming rig, rather nice and you have the same Case and CPU fan as my mate had, and I'm looking at your mother board now, and wondering if you'll have the same problem as I had with my mates build. The fan you've bought has a very large heat sink, and the way you have to position it, may conflict with the heat sink on the mother board. When you get the Fan look on the box it comes in and it should give you a Diagram of which way to place the fan on the motherboard/CPU. E.g. the fan should blow cold air into the case and on the Antec Case there is a fan on the back and it sucks warm air out of the case, and you should position the heat sink so it faces the fan at the back of the case. But when I did this on my mates motherboard the heat sink of the fan was touching the heatsink of motherbaord, so to make sure it didn't create any problems I had to slightly bend the bottom of the heatsink on the fan and therefore it didn't touch the heatsink on the mother board, but if your lucky enough the heatsink on the motherboard will not be close enough to cause a hassle.

Only one thing you shouldn't have got was Vista Home Premium

If you are going to get Vista get Business or higher as Home provides very little in features

Home basic provides very little in features, home premium is much better (Premium is the one I got). Also, if I'd gone for Business, then I wouldn't have got Media Center, which is the main thing I wanted. Also wasn't going to spend an extra 30 pounds just for some extra protection. See here - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx - it's not that much less than Ultimate. So please ... don't make statments like that before you know what I want it for xD I've had enough of people telling me to get this and that ... and then telling me once I do get it, that I should have got the upgrade, when I've already come in at 170 above my original budget.

And you're telling me this after 1+ months of my other thread asking for help and advice (and me ordering) because?

I wonder how many times I will have to keep telling people, if I keep adding an extra 20/30 pounds here and there the price will go up sharply. It has already gone majorly above 400 anyway ...

Thanks =] Shall leave this post visible when building it hehe

Well 2 months ago your card was a very good choice for the money - and the card hasn't gone off or anything so you don't need to worry. 2 months ago the 4800 series didn't exist - it just so happens that it came out after you'd asked for help, but that is just how computers go. No point worrying about it which is why I don't usually comment after someone's bought something.

Guest RB26DETT

still, the 8800gts is still an awesome card which can play most games on max settings. ;)

we could've suggested a HD4850 which is as good as the 9800gtx. :(

Which is as good as the 8800GTS 512...which is what he bought. So no problems at all.

The situation 2 months ago was:

nVidia massive performance advantage, 8800GTS 512 a rocking chip. They'd just brought out the 9800GTX which was identical to the 8800GTS 512, but cost £200. Rip off.

ATi had a new series coming, but everyone expected it to be slow and only about as fast as a 8800GT.

What actually happened was the new ATi were way faster than expected, which caused nVidia to react and drop the price of the 9800GTX to a more reasonable level.

At the end of the day you still couldn't have got a significantly faster card without paying more. The only thing you could have done was get the same performance for cheaper, but that is ALWAYS the case for the PC - any time you wait that can apply.

Great card and to be honest, I'm not going to be able to tell the difference. Havn't tried FRAPS yet. Havn't actually got round to installing the Internet Security yet. For some reason Internet Explorer is funny. It wont even register Vista online as apparently when IE7 is open, I'm not using it ... I'm annoyed, tired and pleased with everything all at the same time. It feels weird.

Nothing's exploded, everything fits just cushty. Runs well, expect I'm having trouble with my Wireless card. Which may be the problem of not updating I don't know. The software which comes with it isn't working, but the card itself allows me to connect (hence this!). =[ =[ =[ =[ =] =] =[ =[

lol. the GX2's went down in price too. they're around the 350-450 dollar range now. PNY is selling an overclocked one for 300 dollars.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133231

That's like £150 in our money! Half the price. I'm gonna have to buy my parts from there.

And unlucky with your problems Iced, ask on Computer Forum. :)
