Hey guys!

My parents are buying me a new pc () and i need some help selecting the parts.

What i need:

- Good videocard, so i can play latest games

- Motherboard

- Processor

- Hard Drive

- Housing

- Memory

I still have a sound-card and valid Windows XP, keyboard, mouse, 5.1 surround sound, dvd player and burner and a external HDD.

Computer must be somewhere close to €600.

If you could help me with quality parts so i can select things and finally play games on my own pc, you will be rewarded with some cookies.

I would like to help but you are in the UK and I don't know about those behind the scene sites that you may have that would be cheaper than Newegg.

Video card: 8800gts (you don't need anything higher)

CPU: Intel Q6600

Memory: Corsair 2gb 800mhz

Case: Personally I like Thermaltake - Soprano

HDD: WD caviar 750gb

Motherboard: Asus P5OL PRO

That is what I would build. This is off the top of my head but consider things around this cause its good bang for buck.

€600 = £478 ...

This is what I got and it all works together nicely:

- BFG 8800GTS 512mb (lifetime warranty - good for the person who doesn't update loads) (£120)

- Quad Core Q6600 OEM (£110)

- Arctic Cooler Pro 7 (£14)

- Abit ip35-Pro Mobo (comes with HD 5.1) (£85)

- 2gb Corsair 4-4-4-12 (£35)

- Antec Sonata 3 Case w. 500W PSU (£80)

= £444

For the remainder £30, ou could always get an extra 2gb RAM. But then you're on XP and not Vista, so no need. Also, you might not have a 64bit XP, therefore, your max RAM is 3gb.

The fan cooler and mobo fit together no problem. Sometimes they dont, but I was lucky! :D

Check eBay, you can get a amazing spec like above for around £300 and it's no fake.

But if you want to build your own, feel free but it will cost more.

But you don't get the reasurance that what you're getting a) works, b) fits together c) is in warranty d) you also don't get the flexibilty, you have to choose pre-built rigs.

a) Aragorn, local PC shop, faily expensive but quality service.

b) Ok, will look further

c) Not really, it gives you a basis price with all the stock parts, and you swap them for better ones. It says how much more expensive they are.
