  1. Back to stalking Mr 458 owner again, eh?
  2. Milli and I have been playing NFS1 on a PSX emulator, and Ozzmcom tried to install the PC version unsuccessfully, but the game averaged a retro review score of 7.4/10 (pretending it's 1994). Now we'll more onto NFS 2. If you've got it, great, if not, you're welcome to find the PC or PSX version of it. On PC, look for the SE version as it supports 3DFX (will assist you in getting it working on modern PCs) and has an extra car + track. Retro Gaming #2: Need for Speed II
  3. That's Need for Speed 2 if you're not good at Roman numerals  Once you've acquired the game :susp: you'll need a 32-bit PC to install it. Since the installer is a 16-bit application, you won't be able to install it on your hardcore 64-bit gaming PC. :( Released in 1997 and designed to be run on computers with 16-64MB of RAM running Windows 95, there are a few hoops you have to jump through to get this game working. The basic steps are as follows: 1. Insert the CD or mount the ISO file using PowerISO, Virtual CD, Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, or whatever app you use. 2. Install the game. On Windows Vista & 7, it recommended that you DON'T install into the 'Program Files' folder, to avoid UAC/Administrative permission problems. Install to C:\Games\NFS2SE or something like that. Select the 'Maximum' install option. 3. Install the game patch (this adds the 3DFX exe as well). (Or just rename the exe file and copy the patch files into the game folder manually, renaming the .EX_ extension to .EXE 4. Install the Microsoft Application Compatibility toolkit and create the database. 5. Setup the 'glide wrapper' (having the SE version of NFS2 is needed for this, unless Andreaz knows another way). I've zipped up all these tools for you to download easily here (MS ACT, game patch & glide wrapper): NFSIISE compatibility tools.zip Now obviously you need more specific instructions, you can find them here. Here are some screenshots of the Glide Setup values (since the guide above isn't formatted too well). Your graphics card and resolution will probably be different to mine unless you have the same laptop as me. I've used that guide to play on a laptop running XP Pro SP2, Andreaz has got it working on Windows 7, and I'll attempt to do the same this week. Knockout mode is new to this game, and the tournament is nice and tricky. If you're on PC at least, it's nowhere near as hard as NFS1 though ;) Here's the result last time I played it: 1st place in a race gets 5 more points than 2nd place, so yeah, I only just won (and I won the last race by half a car length as well)
  4. My remarks are very similar. In various way the physics are more accurate than today's NFS games (Black Box titles). Of course they had the advantage of using cars that generally were pretty rubbish at handling in real life too  If you've got the mental skills to install and configure a PlayStation emulator (or know how to use Google and read instructions), it's worth getting this game to see how good you are at it (I've yet to get a podium place, I'm sure that'll change when I start using MT though). Also best if you have a gamepad. One thing I liked were the tracks, visually the PSX version leaves a lot to be desired (as do all PSX games played on a 1080p screen), but the track layout, esp the point to point checkpoint tracks (which are split into 3 segments) were pretty cool. My score, pretending it's ~1994, is 7.6
  5. I presume you unlock that track by finishing the tournament... So what's your final review of this game, Milli?
  6. Do you have the magic map mod installed? Is this the first car mod you've tried?
  7. Delete the radial.cdb file (search the forums or Google)
  8. Does this mean we can organise more TDU1 cruises again with the hopeful expectation that we'll be able to join our friends? :) Wouldn't mind cruising again in a week or two. (i.e. weekend after next in the morning) Who's in? *hijacks thread* Sunday 11 December starting @ something around 10-11am GMT 1. Ryzza5 2. Ozzmcom 3. superhyper backwards
  9. If you haven't got around to getting this one working or sharing your screenies and experiences with us yet, now's the time since we'll be moving on up to Need for Speed 2 (SE) tomorrow (24 hours). I'll try to get around to finishing the tournament in a few hours. I might even try to Live Stream it for those who weren't able to get it working (don't expect me to know the tracks or win races though) :p
  10. Should get another online game happening next weekend or something
  11. Stagefright? :p
  12. It's a compilation of info found on the net from various sources. Different sites showing different prices.
  13. Whoever made that other comparison video it refers to is a complete tool, lol. Probably was made by some Forza fan called Milli or something
  14. Since SMS are rumored to be working on this Ferrari game in some capacity, naturally you would expect to see some info on their pCARS forum. You would be right: If they weren't involved, why would they have to wait to tell us? Someone asked when he would able to tell us, the answer: And then:
  15. You guys realise this is the Good Day thread, right? :leaves:
  16. James May said he grew back something else iirc.
  17. Indeed it is - you'd rather we just killed you. ;)
  18. If I told you his real name we'd have to send the squirrel mafia around.
  19. Like the time I tried to donate 5 cents to Diablo: Oh and btw Diablo, for that time when you said you didn't have to pay any fees on that large donation, it was because I paid them.
  20. We got it to $96, someone got the $5 Speshul deal - comes with 3 Nugget awards and a plastic toy duck
  21. Arson, I say Some kids arson around :cheeese: [+] Less skilled American car designers make cars that require more driver skill for a market of less-skilled drivers. There is no doubting what will result :p
  22. Umm yeah, Diablo DID alter it so I've already seen that list... which you are on :oook:
  23. Played 1 and/or 2 in DOS on PC when a little kid. While my Dad always crashed I managed to get to the end and "win" by getting ticketed by the police. Rented TD5 on PlayStation once as well. Will aim to play some of these again soon as part of Retro Gaming.
  24. lol Good one Diablo. My view hasn't changed, but (1) I knew you wouldn't be quick to change your mind, and (2) when Baldy offered to do it well it was obvious we had to have some fun with it. Bet hey, you've done a great job cleaning the TV :)
  25. Maybe they saw that fight you had with a wall not too long ago :mhmm:
