Ok so it's really simple... except it isn't [headline]Basic PS4 Recording Setup[/headline] PS4 connects via HDMI to an Elgato GameCapture HD60 device. (I have an older GameCapture HD device that records up to 30FPS if anyone is interested in MEL). From the device another HDMI cable goes to a PC monitor and USB takes the feed to a PC on the same desk, which records the main video clip. That's all you need for basic console recordings. There are other capture cards out there by the likes of Aver Media as well. Search YouTube for more details on using these devices. [headline]Adding Voice Chat to the Mix[/headline] The PS3 could send audio out to HDMI and Optical outputs simultaneously. The PS4 cannot. If you connect a headset to your console or gamepad you can hear gameplay and chat with others, but your recording via HDMI will be silent. Run the official 'Remote Play' application on your PC. Using the wired network connection it will mirror the audio and video output of the PS4. You can now hear the game via your PC speakers but you can't record it yet. You essentially want to get a cable looping your headphone jack to your microphone jack in order to record this audio. What you actually want is a 'virtual audio cable', so download Voicemeeter Banana (aka Pro). This creates 2 virtual Playback and Recording devices in your Sound properties. Confusingly, it calls the Playback channels 'Inputs' and the Recording channels 'Outputs'. In my opinion it should be the other way around. Instead think of these as an inputs into the Voicemeeter application. Set the main playback and recording VIAO devices as default in Windows. I use the auxiliary ones for PC voice chat: Skype, TeamSpeak, Discord, etc (this is irrelevant for consoles - you will not be able to record PS4 voice chat). Voicemeeter is also a very powerful virtual sound mixer. Yellow box (left): These channels are manually mapped to real recording devices (microphones) A1, A2, A3: These channels are manually mapped to physical playback devices (speakers) up top (Hardware Out) Orange (center): The 2 new virtual Playback devices (inputs). You only need the first one. B1, B2: The 2 new virtual Recording devices Control the flow of audio by turning these A1-B2 buttons on/off for various channels. I want my main PC audio be sent out almost everywhere simultaneously so it has the most channels enabled. RemotePlay audio hits Voicemeeter as 'PC Audio', which is redirected an A_ channel (your real speakers, which is only required for normal PC use, not recording PS4), and sent to B1, which is your 'virtual audio cable loop' to be recorded in Elgato. For that reason you'll want to prevent other Windows programs from making noises if you can help it as these will end up in your recording. [headline]In sync[/headline] Because of the two different audio sources, the audio lags behind the video. Download and run Avidemux. Load your video. Watch the video until you find a part where it becomes obvious the audio is out of sync, for example hitting a kerb (or another driver). Tick shift audio and enter a positive or negative value depending if the audio is ahead or lagging behind. It's usually -300ms for me. Change from AVI to MP4v2 if that's the source video and hit save. It takes a few seconds only as there is no conversion happening. [headline]PC gaming and recording[/headline] I take a HDMI cable out of my PC into the Elgato and into a monitor afterwards. Although I've not benchmarked it, I'm pretty sure it means better performance (FPS) when recording compared to using OBS Studio or MSI Afterburner to record, since the external device does the heavy lifting. Press 'Pause' in the Elgato software after hitting record for further performance gains. I also record to F:\, with games installed on C:\ if newer (SSD) or D:\ Since it also records everything coming out of HDMI, no need to worry about game compatibility. If the game crashes to desktop it will record that too. The device sits on my desk for somewhat simple cable swapping with the PS4. I can also record my voice and/or others via Skype, etc to a separate MP3 file for later editing into the video. Image below shows the 'flow' of my microphone audio (orange) and PC audio. [headline]Recording Skype[/headline] A separate audio file requires video editing to merge it, but also enables choosing which parts of the MP3 are included or silenced, along with getting the volume mix just right. [headline]Another neat trick[/headline] Got 2 PC's near each other but only one set of speakers? Use the VBAN function to send all audio from one PC over LAN to the other then out of it's speakers with practically zero lag. My gaming PC has no speakers connected, it goes over LAN to my office PC on the same desk (yep a console and 2 PC's all cosy together). [headline]Alternative Pit Crew Chief on PS4[/headline] I setup Project CARS on PS4 and PC to work with UDP 1 data broadcasting over the local network. I purchased the Android version of the Crew Chief app recently so that I could use this for PS4 league races. You may want to go into its' settings and disable swear words. I run this app on an Android tablet and connect a physical audio cable (the horror) from the tablet out to the USB transmitter for my Logitech G933 headset. Now I can hear when another player is alongside when about to aim for the apex, but my Elgato recording can't. The solution is surprisingly simple. Just run the free PC edition of Crew Chief on the same PC along with PS RemotePlay. Adjust the audio levels so nothing is too loud or quiet, and job done. Both will receive the USB data and generate spoken messages. Technically the video may record different crew chief messages from the PC app compared to what you hear live from the Android app - but who's going to know? [headline]The result[/headline] Recent PS4 recording feature Crew Chief audio with some light editing in Sony Vegas to reduce from 60+ minutes to around 30 minutes: PC gameplay with Skype recording: Hopefully someone finds this useful or inspiring. It took over an hour to write-up.

What You Saw Recently - No Man's Sky Edition

My home planet wasn't great either. I decided not to claim my free ship until I had repaired and built a hyperdrive for the first one. Sentinels kept following me around, even into deep caves which meant mining was rather difficult. Numerous fast and unfriendly animals gave chase and attacked as well. So it took a while to get off that planet. A few planets later the environment was favourable and full of large gold deposits, which sentinels don't care about. So that helped me to make a quick buck. -
Share photos and brief (relative to all the 8+ hour live stream recordings out there) videos documenting your travels through the NMS universe. First up, what was your home planet experience like? Serene and beautiful? Or troublesome with predators and plenty of sentinel drones following you around everywhere whilst attempting to find resources to repair your ship?

I both think I remember but struggle to remember some of it all at the same time. I guess I've never owned it or even perhaps played it. -

@Ozzmcom. If you're note a graphics snob and can just appreciate the experience and immersion, then I see no reason to wait for Gen 2. Whenever that comes out, I suspect most will upgrade along with the latest graphics card. Probably not a cheap exercise. :) Visually the above video is a decent idea of what it feels like, although if you focus on the screen door effect it does look worse. You shouldn't care enough about that though. What experiences are you looking forward to trying? -

Rocket League Rumble Introduces free Wackiness this September

I think it would be best if you had to sacrifice ball chasing for the powerups, i.e. if they were collected from the ceiling. I'm a tad concerned at the auto-aiming that seems apparent in the trailer. But I'll give it a go. I think it will be more fun to watch the entertaining elite players mess about with it. -
On the final day of the Rocket League Championship Series Live Finals Psyonix took the stage to officially debut a brand new mode scheduled for release next month, Rocket League Rumble! A FREE game mode to be included with our next update in September, Rocket League Rumble is an epic battle royale-style addition that comes stacked with randomized power-ups. Whether you’re equipped with the Haymaker (which punches the ball), the Swapper (which changes your place on the field with an opponent’s), or the Tornado (you’ll just have to see it to believe it), each one of the 11 new power-ups brings an extra dimension to the classic Rocket League formula. Check out the trailer to see the new mode in action and remember to watch the final season-one RLCS match-ups today and forever on Twitch.tv/RocketLeague. Like the “Hoops” and “Mutator” modes before it, Rocket League Rumble will appear in online playlists and Private and Exhibition matches. For the latter, you can select specific Mutators, including Slow, Civilized, Destruction Derby, and Spring-Loaded. The complete power-up list includes: The Boot (Kicks an opponent’s car) Disruptor (Forces your opponent to drive uncontrollably) Freezer (Freezes the ball in-place) Grappling Hook (Pulls you towards the ball) Haymaker (Punches the ball) Magnetizer (Attracts the ball to your car) Plunger (Grabs the ball via plunger and cord) Power Hitter (Allows you to hit everything harder) Spike (Attach the ball to your car when you bump into it) Swapper (Change positions on the field with your opponent) Tornado (Sweep up the ball and opposing cars into a giant funnel cloud) Source

If you race with other humans across the web you're more than welcome to share them here, especially if they're exciting to watch! ======================================================== In my most recent league race on PS4 we had a sprint round at Silverstone International (short), which is actually quite a fun track compared to the more laborious (mio) longer versions. Instead of an hour-long race, they're split into two. The second race is reverse grid and worth half points. Points are combined to determine overall round position, and then the standard points are added to the championship. Because I don't really have time to practice, I'm in the entry level division, where things can get a little more messy. However after an average qualifying session, I got a good break and then had to focus on defending against a faster driver for race one. In race two, I had a terrible start, but this meant more battles with more drivers which is much more fun to spectate (plus it has added 'thought bubble' annotations).

forza horizon 3 Forza Horizon 3: Garage Week 3 - Classics

I wonder how many of these rare cars actually exist in Australia (as in total numbers, not a yes or none thing) -
Almost the same but some other company purchased the rights to FSX. One key difference to the Steam edition is that it's 64bit now which brings performance benefits. Looks like they're making 2 new games as well. I guess most YouTubers will only be interested with a demo they can play. You might try going after ISR since they have a weekly news video. -
Quick review of the TV and soundbar: In short, very good. Does exactly what I wanted - completely eliminate the need for me to change inputs all the time. TV automatically turns on the soundbar and audio goes through it. I can cast audio to the soundbar or video to the TV from any phone or PC (even if they are on standby). Apps for YouTube and Kodi aren't far away. I can jump back to live TV instantly by pressing a 'TV' shortcut button or a channel number. The remote doesn't look like much but it's very well thought out for the most part. 1080p content on this TV looks way better than on my old 42" 1080p LG TV from ~2009, almost to the point where I didn't perceive a massive jump in pixel quality when trying some 4K demo footage - it's more the HDR colours that stand out in that case.

August 8th 2016 Changes - Forum Structure Shuffle

In fact, the real benefit of the gallery is that you can use it to host your images in order to display in threads on here. Removing the hassle of needing to find a good image host or using imgur and dealing with their compression. I was responding specifically to this. Lack of said feature is what would personally prevent me from using the feature in the way you want us to. The ideas and changes so far are great. Just trying to help (in my own speshul way) to prevent any potential 'why isn't this being used?' questions being asked. For those who may not have realised from reading the OP, filters are a great way to temporarily create any game title subforum you wish. Always wanted an Assetto Corsa subforum? You've got one!- 3 replies

Quantum entanglement? Isn't that where you finish playing the game before you start it? Or just start with level 13, then 21, then 4, then 8, then 19, and so on? :) /(bad Quantum Leap joke)

About darn time. Was starting to think that everyone I contacted didn't care the slightest. Well at least that proves that writing articles does in fact take a lot of time. :) The good news is that once one picks up the story, you can expect other sites to follow suit. Thanks Martin if you're reading this. -
