  1. Let's See If I Remember How to do This Blog Thang Did you know that we haven't published an article full of Project CARS screenshots since July 2013? Never mind that we haven't published ANY articles in 10 months. But we love righting wrongs so much that we occasionally have to create those wrongs ourselves- that's just our style. And with only 30 days remaining before launch (hopefully), now seems like a great time to share some of the latest screenshots posted by the WMD community. Media [gallery link=file" size="gallery-thumbnail" columns="5" itemtag="div" icontag="span" ids="2759,2760,2761,2762,2763,2764,2765,2766,2767,2768,2769,2770,2771,2772,2773,2774,2775,2776,2777,2778,2779,2780,2781,2782,2783,2784,2785,2786,2787,2788,2789,2790,2791,2792,2793,2794,2795,2796,2797,2798,2799,2800,2801,2802,2803,2804,2805,2806,2807,2808,2809] Project CARS is scheduled for release in May 2015 on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Release dates for Wii U and Steam OS will be announced later.
  2. The Ultimate Driver Journey WMD member Halcyon is renowned for his video trailers, so much so that SMS have hired him as a member of staff to create further video productions. Combined with Dr Stephen Baysted's rendition of Lux Aeterna, this latest video gains 'official' status. The trailer also confirms a release date scheduled for November 2014. When it comes to next-gen visuals, world class physics, racing authenticity, career freedom, and variety of content, Project CARS remains the most anticipated and premier choice for race fans. Jump into the seat of a kart and forge a career with the aim of one day winning a prestigious 24hr race in a LM Prototype car, battle bumper-to-bumper for a third consecutive championship in the world of Touring, or simply take an exotic supercar out for a beautiful drive along the coast. Whatever your journey, Project CARS is your destination... MEDIA:
  3. Long Beach Added Gratis Being in charge can be hard. You get held accountable for everything and are expected to work far longer than the average 9-5'ers to meet expected outcomes. So spare a thought for the evidently tired Dan Greenawalt as he announces a new free track for Forza Motorsport 5.
  4. How Big is 'Pretty Big'? Do you remember the first time you played Test Drive Unlimited all the way back in 2006/2007? How many times did you get lost early on? I wasn't too bad until I got myself into a long police chase which ended up becoming an off-road excursion... by the time I escaped I had absolutely no clue where I was. So no doubt you'd agree TDU1 had quite a large open world for its time. As you would recall, the Millionaire's Challenge required players to complete a lap around the island of O'ahu in under 60 minutes, with competent players able to complete the event in 45 minutes by averaging speeds above 250 kph (150 mph). What is interesting, however, is if you apply some turboduck maths, you can discover that the virtual version of O'ahu is much the same size as in reality. Or if that's too hard, you can always drive around the virtual island at the speed limit and compare the time it takes to what Google Maps suggests. But for the purposes of this article, let's assume that you can drive at an average speed 3 times faster in a supercar inside the game world compared to what the law allows in the real world. Figure 1 - aside from some discrepancies in the shape of the island, the size and scale are close to being 1:1. So nearly 8 years on from TDU1's launch on Xbox 360, let's have a look at what we know about the open world inside The Crew. Late last year, Creative Director Julian Gerighty made a few remarks regarding its size: A coast to coast race in the game, in a high-speed performance car, sticking to the roads is about an hour and a half, but if you want to go off-road, it’s about two hours and a half. We have one race, which is just for those maniacs, it’s not on the main path or anything. It goes around the circumference of the country and it’s a four hour race. WARNING: MATHS CONTENT If you ask Google Maps for directions from Los Angeles to the east coast, it will generally suggest a trip time of 39 hours. If we could drive that distance 3 times as fast, it would take 13 hours. So if the world in The Crew were a 1:1 scale with reality, then its 'coast to coast' race would logically also take ~ 13 hours. Since we know the game world is not to scale, and that the coast-to-coast race takes 1.5 hours, divide 13/1.5 to find the scale. Now we [think we] know that the real USA is 8.666666667x larger than the USA found in The Crew. VISUALISING THE SCALE Figure 2 - a satellite image of America (Google Maps) Figure 3 - an official illustration of the game world from The Crew. Figure 4 - overlaying the game world on top of the satellite image at roughly the same size. Visual discrepancies are much larger compared to O'ahu. Figure 5 - overlaying another copy of the game world image so that it appears scaled down as per the maths above. By now you can see how drastically the developers have had to scale down the USA for The Crew. Figure 6 - It's not all bad news though. Look how relatively large the scaled down map is compared to O'ahu. Figure 7 - in fact, it seems that we can fit O'ahu into the game world 43 times. Of course, all of this assumes our maths isn't floored. :) ONE SMALL PROBLEM Our calculations started off by using the number 39 as the number of hours needed to drive from Los Angeles to the east coast in real life. But have a closer look at Figure 4. The east coast in the game world appears to end near Tennessee on the satellite image. So perhaps the calculation should really be (27 hours/3)/1.5 = a scale factor of 6. So, what do you make of all this? Shall we just stick to saying the game world in The Crew is 'pretty big'? Or do you have your own ideas for calculating the scale. Let us know in the comments below. Don't forget to also visit the forums for more information on The Crew!
  5. What a sixpack! Slightly Mad Studios' Project CARS just keeps growing as Audi has just been announced to become the latest brand to join the community-assisted simulator! As many as six Audis are joining the game, including the latest rendition of their supercar: the 2013 R8 V10 Plus as well as its big brother, the 2013 R8 LMS Ultra GT3, which will challenge the recently announced Bentley amongst other GT3 racers. The 1989 90 IMSA GTO is a beast that could prove to be tough but rewarding to control and it will surely find its own fans. Le Mans heritage is not forgotten as included are both the 2002 R8 LMP900 and the 2011 R18 TDI LMP1, both of which have shown their domination at the track. Last but not least is my personal favourite, the small 2012 A1 Quattro - a 256hp version of Audi's tiny A1 which I'm really eager to test! All of these cars will surely be great fun to drive and they'll be hitting the tracks in Fall 2014 when Project CARS is released for the PS4, Xbox One, SteamOS, Wii U and of course PC. Source: WMDPortal
  6. To the track sir? WMDPortal has just posted the news that Bentley is being welcomed to Project CARS, the license will result in the inclusion of two of Bentley's more recent racing cars. The most well known of them being the strikingly beautiful 'Speed 8' Le Mans racer, with the other being a GT3 version of their luxury Grand Tourer, the Continental GT. A GT3 version of this car seems a bit strange to myself, but then again if it's stripped out and hard-prepped for the track it could actually be a lot of fun! Project CARS if you still don't know is coming out later in 2014 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Wii U. Thanks - WMDPortal
  7. Lookout Below! Don't ask me what is arriving 'from the sky' or when we can expect it, but it probably wouldn't hurt to make the occasional glance upwards in-between focusing on the next corner exit. Before you jump onto the track, however, check out hybrid.art's new video trailer, embedded below for your convenience.
  8. Pure Raging A couple of new Raging Bulls are the next to join the NFS Rivals cops and racer ranks in this latest DLC for the EA arcade racer, called the 'Concept Lamborghini' the packs contain the (successful?) attempt of recent years to re-imagine the legendary Miura, resulting in the gorgeous Miura Concept. Snorting alongside is the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo, a road-going version of the racing variant that participates in what is known as the 'World's Fastest One Make Series' the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. Packs are available either separately as Cop or Racer with the former containing Pursuit liveries for the vehicles or a Complete Pack where you will get both packs for a discounted price. They should be available now on all relevant platforms so if you're still feeling the Need for Speed and want some new Lamborghini metal to go up against the recent Ferraris and Jaguars that were also released, then here and now is the time to do it! NFS Rivals: Lamborghini DLC Trailer Thanks - needforspeed.com
  9. Carlsberg don't make Trailers... It seems that the crowd-funded project by Slightly Mad Studios Project Cars has been going on forever, in fact you could almost believe that Moses himself was playing the latest build when the burning bush pestered him to pay attention but alas we are here in 2014 and this looks to be the actual year when we will see the game actually released! Yeah I know how crazy is that? Those of you who have followed and are an active part of the games' development will know how it has progressed and continues to just surprise and make jaws drop with each passing phase and goal met by the development team. And with the recent move from the Xbox 360 and PS3 to their next-gen successors it's clearly evident that this game is going to be the looker of the bunch and will hopefully have the meat and not just be a pretty face. You can judge what you think yourself though with this *Jermemy Clarkson voice* astonishing trailer from WMDForum member JonZ, who if you don't know of, is very skilled at making trailers that result in you throwing money at your screen. Project CARS will be available for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam OS and Wii U (yes really) in the later part of 2014. For more info check out the the WMD website. Check out our Project Cars forum!
  10. Ultima Leak a Forza? We all know there has been plenty of hear-say and hints that Forza Horizon 2 is probably in development at Playground Games, from LinkedIn profiles last year and Playground themselves saying they were working on an "...exciting, unannounced project for Xbox One" the clues are all there. And now we have yet another, and also a possible release from a likely source in Ultima Sports Ltd (how often do car makers leak this stuff?), who via a post on their Facebook - which has since been removed - have announced that they can't 'stop smiling and twerking' (may have made that up) after agreeing to a new contract with Microsoft for a "new video game to be launched later in 2014". We are assuming this to be Forza Horizon 2 and not Project Gotham Racing 5 though either would be very nice! Both would be bloody fantastic!! With a statement of 2014 it's going to be a busy year for the racing enthusiast whatever their taste what with; The Crew, Project CARS, DRIVECLUB, BeamNG DRIVE, Assetto Corsa, [the next] Need for Speed and now Forza Horizon 2 it is most definitely a good time to be a fan of the racing genre. The matter of Horizon 2 no doubt being exclusive to Xbox One also raises the fact that it could well be a system seller - Microsoft are obviously pinning their hopes on Titanfall doing that after splashing the cash to 'money hat' exclusivity to the Xbox consoles and PC - as there's many a people out there who like nothing less than the glorious visuals of a racer to sway them into buying new hardware. Could the end of 2014 see a bit of a skirmish between Horizon 2 and The Crew? Well at least on Xbox One it certainly looks like it could be. Thanks - videogamer.com | worldsfactory.net
  11. Love Smoke is in the Air For those of you who have another love in your Xbox One and Forza Motorsport 5, you'll be happy to know that you'll be able to show it some affection this February too with the latest DLC Car Pack. Along with The Smoking Tire the bods at Turn 10 have produced this heavy on the horsepower selection featuring cars from all the main regions of the world and as you should well expect by now should have something for every picky car fan around. Out on February 4th the ten-car pack will cost the usual or be free if you have the 'Car Pass' with buyers of the pack being gifted the 1968 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale free. 12. Bringing IGN The New Year to Forza 5 Forza Motorsport 5 and IGN have again teamed up for the release of the first monthly Car Pack DLC for the Xbox One exclusive racer. The 10 car pack as expected contains a real mix of types, from the absolute classics such as the Ferrari 250 California and Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage to the cult icons such as the Peugeot 205 T16, Ford Escort RS1800 - and for the Japanese Drift fans - the Nissan Fairlady Z 432 as well as a couple of 'normal' entries. There are a number of let's say "old friends" too including the Ferrari 575 Maranello and Lamborghini Reventon but to be honest you can't really expect a brand new generation launch game to compete with former entries in the series in terms of quantity so we can let them off a bit for it. The full list is below as well as a trailer showing the cars in action. The pack is available now for $10 or the equivalent in your currency, as well as the option of a Car Pass for $49.99/£39.99 which will give access to six DLC packs saving you a total of 18% over buying each pack on its own. 2013 Caterham Superlight R500 1961 Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage 2013 Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG 1977 Ford Escort RS1800 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello 2008 Lamborghini Reventón 1957 Ferrari 250 California 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z 432 1984 Peugeot 205 T16 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ3hMEOqUHw Thanks IGN & ForzaMotorsport.net Follow the discussion about Forza on our forums and even join in and share your Forzatography!
  13. ... And Then Unboxes It Again! Major Nelson has treated fans to a 3-month early unboxing video of the Xbox One - Day One Edition. I'll stop writing now since you've no doubt already clicked the Play button and stopped reading this. [embed] [/embed] All done? Great - so what did we just see here? Another massive ugly power brick? Seriously? In the flesh, the console doesn't look that terrible. Unimaginative - yes. In fact it looks like it took him a second to work out which side was the front. A decent selection of ports are included (with a large enough space around the USB port for your bulky flash drives you've got) Dual-band a/b/g/n WiFi built in. No support for the new super-fast 'ac' protocol though. A slot-loading BluRay drive New controller with 'Day One Edition' inscribed for you to show off to your friends, if friends still visit each others house these days. iR blasting (have they revealed a new media center remote control yet or will the old ones be compatible?) A 4K-supported HDMI cable. Useful. A fancy power button (that's basically the same as the newest Xbox 360 refresh, and the original PS3, besides the fact that it lights up) Kensington lock support, just in case the Xbox One suddenly becomes popular. In other news, Microsoft will require a LIVE Gold subscription for key features such as sharing game recordings, making Skype video calls, and receiving TV Guide recommendations based on your viewing habits. Sony quickly responded by saying that it will not charge users to share gaming footage. So what do you guys think? Sound off in the comments section below.
  14. TDU3 or DSF2? With E3 only a week away now, more info has leaked about the rumoured racer to be coming from Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections (Driver: San Francisco). Here's what we've heard so far: The Crew will probably offer a game experience close to DRIVER: San Francisco. The gameplay is rather semi-arcade, accessible, fun and efficient. The open-world environment is in North America, with the possibility to travel between New York City and Los Angeles (on a reduced scale). Like DRIVER: San Francisco, the map will be similar to "Google Maps". In "freeride", players will be free to choose between missions or challenges. Multiplayer will be competitive and co-operative with an upper limit of 8 players per-session. A companion app for mobile devices will be published The unknown source of this leak tested the game on the Xbox 360 console, but previous job listings seem to hint that a PS4 version is also in the works (Xbone more than likely too). The release date is expected to be announced before the end of 2013. Apprehensive? Excited? Cautiously optimistic? Come and discuss the latest on our forums! The image above was found on Ivory's website by Speeder last year Thanks. GameBlog.fr

  16. Turn 10 is taking the popular franchise to the next generation! First things first, let me introduce myself for a bit. I'm Santtu, most of you may know me under the nickname superhyper. This is my first article here and I'm really glad I can help keeping the site active. I'm aiming to write more about the Forza franchise in the future. To kick things off, Microsoft just announced Forza Motorsport 5 to be an Xbox One launch title! Turn 10 has usually made games on a biennial basis and obviously this kicked off many rumours about Forza Motorsport 5 being a 2013 release. E3 2013 looked like a potential place for the announcement but we got it even sooner as Microsoft announced Xbox One earlier today. Amongst all the announced games, Forza 5 was mentioned and it was also confirmed to be an Xbox One launch title. We are more than likely to get more information at E3 but for now, we have a trailer showing the legendary Mclaren F1 battling against its successor, the glorious P1 on the streets of an unnamed city that apparently looks a lot like Prague. Turn 10 also released a few screenshots of the P1, check them out at the end of this article! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy_LDyfCANg As you can tell, the trailer is most likely computer generated, not much can be said for sure but speculation is definitely going to happen as lots of interesting things can be seen (and heard!) Forza Motorsport 5 will be available later this year when Xbox One is released. Stay tuned for more information during Microsoft's press conference in this year's E3 and catch up with all the news right here at turboduck! Updated Gallery with High-res images.
