Modders / Programmers & Racing game fans, can we make a game between us all.

I've been away from computers for quite a while but have done lots of thinking while I was away, The 2 driving games I played regularly were Test Drive Unlimited 2 & GTR2. I was especially disappointed with TDU2. I like driving & playing on roads and the freedom to roam not being stuck to the confines of a race track, that said I spend easily as much time tweaking, tuning and modding so GTR2 has a huge appeal that TDU2 never had and doesn't look like it ever will.

Back to the subject... Do we have as a community of computer games & racing game enthusiasts, programmers & modders - enough skills between us all to make the best racing game there will ever be? I have been playing with an idea based on Google earth, I have put lots of thought into it and have lots of ideas but I'm not a great programmer and couldn't even begin to do anything on that scale. I do have much to contribute though as I'm good with cars, physics, tuning, textures & skinning.

My thoughts would be that using Google Earth we would have the whole planet to be able to drive around, including the race tracks for the circuit racing fans. Using autogen similar to flight simulators to start with then once online anyone can update details / add models to be more accurate to the real area.

I don't want to rattle on for too long in case no one else is interested... But if anyone else is interested in exploring this further I'll share all my ideas &, thoughts and we can take it from there.

I'm posting this on the GTR forum too, hopefully we can pool resources.

Thanks.

I'm sure the talent is out there, but if you're making a new game, everything needs to be from scratch, and everything has to be legit. A lot of the talent probably have a lot of other more important things to do (i.e. a real job that pays money). Hold onto the ambition, but I would recommend to start very small and just do a proof of concept first. Once you can show tangibly what's possible, you may attract a lot more assistance.

Thank you for the replies, I can appreciate that people have there jobs to do and family life too, we're all in the same boat with that one. I've started putting all my things together on the computer I'll see what I come up with and check back in a few days.

There was a group of TDU fans who were actually doing this, I have no idea how far along or if the project is still active but with the talent available and sources of funding available there's always a possibility if someone kicks it off. :)

If you have or come across a link for me to get in touch with them it would be a great place for me to start and share some ideas, Thanks.
