I agree with redvette completely. The whole point of Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ. I may not be a Christian, but it seems people don't realize the truth. Of course we can spread the happiness just like Jesus' birth by giving gifts that really come from the heart. Throughout the years, it's like people are taking advantage of this by going, "Oh I want this for Christmas!" and so forth. I'm not saying I've never done any wrong doing of Christmas, but I'm saying that we should understand what Christmas is. Why not try helping out the less fortunate? I've actually got friends that aren't actually as lucky as me and once I knew them, I was there when they needed me. You never know what great actions can bring joy! ;)

Happy Holidays!

Jesus wasn't born in or anywhere near December.

There's strong Biblical evidence that suggest his brith was closer to September.

As for the 25th that was a pagan festival that was abolished by the Roman Catholic church and changed to celebrate the birth of Christ. Which when you read your bible it doesn't take long to discover that its wrong. Its all in Deuteronomy.

The 'christmas' tree is a heathen symbol which used to be worshipped in Northern parts of europe...also where the Yule log comes from.

Thats why I don't go to church on Christmas day.

I have to agree with some of you guys. Really, the main purpose of Christmas has been forgotten and replaced with shopping and gifts. Gifts should be given but we shouldn`t just talk about them...it`s just a material, that kids are happy to see. The real gift for Christmas is happyness, love, the family...So I think that Christmas should be most about Jesus and less about presents. :)

Where do you think Christmas came from if the whole story wasn't true??

The time of year/meaning of the festival? that was the pagan festival of yule. Jesus was not even born 2008 years ago, as King Herod (who ordered the death of all children under whatever) died 2012 years ago... and as Tim said, the actual time was most likely september.

ofcourse if you want to believe a religion that Encourages human sacrafice and the burning of non-believers aswell as Rape and worships a god that has actions quoted that are nothing short of evil then good for you.

The title Christmas may be the same, but for millions of people, the meaning is not, that is because it has evolved from a festival to an annual celebration, one that people enjoy in their own way. If you want to spend Christmas at the alter, good for you, i'm not stopping you, but hell if i'm gonna be roped into it as we all learn 'the true meaning of Christmas'. I have my Christmas enjoying all I have with me on earth, you go enjoy all that you have in your pages.

LOL, what an interesting site. Completely misquoted and taken out of context too. All they have done is taken a tiny snapshot that seems to be wrong and not actually bothered reading the rest of the passages around it. Not once does the Bible condone rape or murder. What actually happen in text on that site was just the israelites claiming back their own land.

they were defeated and taken into slavery by the Egyptians during which time their possesions and land were stolen.

While 'arranged' marriages are far from ideal there are many respected 'religions' today that still practice them... do you cry rape over that? NO! Why?

Have a read of the Quran and then tell me how evil the Bible is... But before you do read the New Testatment, because that is what its all about. :p

Anyway I am a not for religion, I just have a faith.

As for King Herods death thats pretty irrelevant. The slaughter of new born males actually took place over a number of years after his order. His order was based on prophecies given in waht is now the Old Testament. He was never certain when Jesus would be born and where so he killed everyelse that could've been the prophesied Messiah.

Christmas is good when you are young but as you get older you stop doing nativities and xmas songs at school it looses its meaning.

Also its to commercialised, at the end of september shops start selling and putting up xmas decorations which imo should be banned until the last week of November.

Also it doesn't even feel xmasy this year normally the roads are heaving, and all supermarkets are packed with people getting fresh veg and meat and local shopping centre is packed. I went there today, supermarket is dead and the retail park you would normally que for up to an 1hr+ to get through and spend hours looking for space but is dead, its as if the shops are not even open but I spose thats due to the economic crises we are in atm.

Still its good to sse the look on a loved ones face when they open a present from you.

+1 on the above, that's one of the things I do like about Christmas. Presents do make a lot of what is Christmas (for me at least) If you think deeply about a present, and you know it is what whoever is receiving it will enjoy, it becomes very special. I love when I get a present that has obviously had a lot of consideration put in to it, cause it shows that people really think of me. I think that's where opinions become split and people think it is all materialistic, because some people only ever receive money or get exactly what they have asked for. Personally I try to make the most of every present as soon as I open it and usually all the presents haven't been opened till after 2 o'clock (even though we start at 8)

i just hate the build up to christmas, its like a tenth of the year now as a build up for one day, totally stupid. Makes it boring when it finally gets here.

Agree that all this about not knowing about the true meaning of chirstmas it becouse people don't care. I don't either to be honest. I know the storys as i have relgious grandparents but thats not christmas for me.

nothing short of evil[/url] then good for you.

You find me one once of information that proves that all of that is true and I will revoke my belief in Christ...right this second.

I say this because I know that your not going to.

Rape?? How dare you sir. The Bible speaks specifically against rape. The Bible also specifically talks about not bringing harm to non-believers but mearly trying your best to spread the Word to them. And what quotes have you found that are evil?? name one.

God loves everyone and wishes no harm to anyone. He sent his son to earth to save us from our sins. I don't think the official date has ever been proven, but it doesn't matter. We celebrate it anyway because we love Him. God always wants the best for you no matter how badly you treat Him or how much you push Him away. All He asks is that you love Him in return, that's all He wants.

At the end of the day everyones view is different, some believe some don't but at the end of the day that is there choice/belief etc.

Its good to voice what you believe in but lets not get into a religious arguement and force our views upon others and lets enjoy the festivities

I was ready to come back with my take on the argument but as nodz says, festivities.

Firstly, this argument is going nowhere, you have faith engrained into your mind, I have belief that when I die I go under the ground and stay there. evidently neither of us will back down.

I won't pick holes in your religion if you won't make out that I am wrong because Christ is very detached from Christmas for me. Reading your posts you have assumed a high ground and I believe I have the right to defend myself. No high-ground, no conflict, capiche?

fair?

OK I don't think he cares ;) Ok that was a bit harsh but I never get why religous people (any religion normally) will try and convince others, not going to work so no point tring, just annoys people so they snap at you.

Thats why he sends non belivers to eternal torture.

No no no I shall stop, I don't like trying to find holes in beliefs but also hate people trying to change my chioces in life. Used to have a lot of good convo's with friends while I was in school about this but don't think this forum is the place to do it, just turns into an argument as your not talking to the person directly.
