Took advantage of the nice sunny weather today and went for a spin with the top down. :) The car is just a tiny bit dirty...

I'll leave the pictures until I've given it a proper clean as I don't trust them to clean it properly.
 
Specification is pretty much standard to be honest, no leather or sat-nav, but a surprising feature is it has split-folding rear seats which I don't think is standard (?). Just the usual features of auto-wipers, auto-lights, auto-dimming rear mirror, phone prep, CD changer in the back and cloth/alcantara seats. Nav, I'm not bothered by because even if it had nav I'd still end up buying a Dynavin head-unit to replace it. Leather, likewise, not fussed.
 
Crucially the wheel arches aren't rusty, clutch and brakes seem very good, pulls really well. All but one service was done by BMW, two owners who bought the car directly from BMW dealerships. 93,000 on the clock which is oddly the same mileage my step-dad bought his 330d Sport Touring at last year.
 
First things first is removing the swirl-flaps as it's the later 204BHP manual which does have them. Then I'll concentrate on getting the car up to my levels of cleanliness and order.

Our date was pushed back a few times due to unforseen crap, but today it finally happened. We walked a very long way from school to a tea place in the hip part of town, it was very cold and the hand she wasn't holding almost fell off. Then we got there, and talked a lot. And smiled. And laughed. Wonderful day. :)

Hey guys! Long time no see.
 
 
Some of you might remember me. I used to be active on this forum a while ago, so I thought it might be interesting for you to see what kind of car I would be buying as my first one. I could be wrong, but you know, I'll take the chance ;) I picked up my first car on the 23rd of December and have since detailed it and done a few minor mods. Before you see the photos, let me tell you my parents did help when I were to find work to save for the car, and with the actual process buying it, but I paid it all myself. I'm not 18 yet so I dont have a license yet, but I can drive it as long as my dad is in the passenger seat. It's only a few weeks left till I'm 18 anyway.

In case you missed the photos above, it's a 2007 Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe (yes, that's what the european power retractable hardtop models are called) 1.8 in True Red with black leather interior and a sports exhaust system fitted. It's only done 34 900 km.
 
 
I have many mods planned, for instance I really don't like how high it sits atm, and those winter wheels are pretty ugly. I'm planning to lower the car 50-60mm with Eibach springs, put winter tires on the original Mazda 16" rims and get some gunmetal matte TSW Nurburgring 17" for summer. Its gonna look a lot better then. Quick photoshop of how it will look:

Hey there folks, our host is awesome in many ways but with awesomesauce comes great flavours and the more you eat the more you grow and when you just keep growing you become too big for your jacket. This is what has happened with our host, as they've ran out of pockets to keep the servers in, so they are having to leave the old one and try on a brand spanking new one with many more pockets and then placing all the servers and such in again.
 
This jacket migration process is scheduled to start at 10PM on Thursday the 9th January and should last hopefully until no more than 6AM the following Friday on the 10th. So please make your arrangements for our unavailability, sleeping tablets, falling head-first on concrete or maybe just going outside and playing with pigeons ....oh wait you could go and feed some ducks!
 
Yeah so, we'll see you when we've warmed up in our new jacket pocket on Friday.

Finally got around to fitting my new glass rear screen to replace the cloudy broken perspex one. I can see behind me now! Also replaced the door speakers with the ones out of my Mini and it sounds epic now.

Ah very nice! Honda reliability is second to none! A 500cc should be decent enough on economy. I can't help but cringe at the 47bhp output though. My old 1997 Thundercat (600cc) developed 95BHP at the back wheel with only a K&N Filter and a Remus Carbon exhaust on.
 
As for tips. The best thing my grandad ever told me is: Treat EVERYONE as an idiot.
 
Other things I've picked up along my two wheeled life are;
- When unsure if cars are pulling out of a junction, watch their wheels as opposed to the cars themselves. You can see the wheels move much sooner than the car
- Riding a bike near idle in the highest gear does NOT give better fuel economy. On a 500cc IL4, you'd want to think about shifting between 4500rpm & 5000rpm.
- When turning corners too quickly, use the REAR brake instead of the front. If you pull the front while leaned over, you'll lock the front wheel up and fold.
- Watch out for grids/painted road markings, especially in the wet.
- Proper road positioning is key, I always ride in line where the driver of the car in front is. Leave a two second gap to enable you to plan your escape should an issue arise.
- Don't forget to cancel your indicator, about 2% of bikes have self-cancelling indicators
- Car drivers might not have seen you behind them, so occasionally do a small weave to grab their attention (Every 40 seconds or so is a good timing)
- When riding in wet weather, clean and re-lubricate your chain every 3-4 days
- Chavs in Chav-Chariots will ALWAYS want to race you. Show them that their Vauxhall Corsa/Citroen Saxo is actually a shed by riding next to them in first/second gear as they're at their top speed (It's hilarious)
- Leaves, Mud, Gravel and any other loose road surfaces are dangerous. You never know what's around the corner so be careful when on unfamiliar roads.
- If you're in trouble at the side of the road, a fellow biker should stop and offer assistance. If they don't, then they're not "true bikers"
