  1. The Ultimate Driver Journey WMD member Halcyon is renowned for his video trailers, so much so that SMS have hired him as a member of staff to create further video productions. Combined with Dr Stephen Baysted's rendition of Lux Aeterna, this latest video gains 'official' status. The trailer also confirms a release date scheduled for November 2014. When it comes to next-gen visuals, world class physics, racing authenticity, career freedom, and variety of content, Project CARS remains the most anticipated and premier choice for race fans. Jump into the seat of a kart and forge a career with the aim of one day winning a prestigious 24hr race in a LM Prototype car, battle bumper-to-bumper for a third consecutive championship in the world of Touring, or simply take an exotic supercar out for a beautiful drive along the coast. Whatever your journey, Project CARS is your destination... MEDIA:
  2. This new trailer shows a large part of what has culminated over the many years of development this game has been in production, and now as we edge ever faster through the year of 2014 the official media drops are starting to happen and as the old saying goes; good things come to those who wait. And this is none ever truer than Project CARS from Slightly Mad Studios. Having been watching this game for many years it's now quite remarkable to think that this game is actually coming and it is truly going to be one hell of an introduction for this brand new franchise that will easily take-on the big names in their domain. Can honestly see this game being the one you switch between with The Crew.
  3. Looks Like 2014 Will Be The Year of Racing Clubs WMD members actively assisting in the development of Project CARS knew there was another secret project in the works, and that the simulator would benefit from increased income, development staff, and of course extra content because of it. Well the secret's finally out with the announcement of an upcoming arcade racer destined for PC later in 2014. My.com, the largest Internet services community in Russian-speaking countries with a 100 million+ user base, approached Slightly Mad Studios with the aim of adding a new free to compete game to their catalogue. Creative Director Andy Tudor avidly avoided the term 'free-to-play' as gamers see these titles as 'pay-to-win', and Andy assured press that this was not their ethos. About 50 cars are planned for launch, with more content being added later, but how many of those cars will be free remains unknown. All locations will fortunately be available at no cost, similar to Simraceway's model. Fans will be happy to hear that World of Speed shares the glamourous graphics and weather engines found in Project CARS, however 'not a single line of of code' from the simulations' physics engine will be found in the decidedly-arcade title. Developers compared the car-handling to the Burnout franchise and stress players will be able to control the cars using keyboard, gamepad, or steering wheel input. Action Racing World of Speed takes action-styled racing games into a new era by combining features from a large number of previous games in the racing genre. Similarities can be found from titles such as Need for Speed, Burnout Paradise, Destruction Derby, Forza Horizon, DRIVECLUB, The Crew, and so on. Team Racing Compete in an ever-expanding number of gameplay modes where completing team-based objectives determines the victor. Being the first to cross the finish line no longer guarantees your victory; it's all about team-work! Hopefully this means no more first corner rage-quits. Cars Players can earn and collect a continuously growing roster of cars ranging from everyday city runners to the fastest super cars on the planet while housing them in their own custom garage. Performance and visual upgrades add the finishing touches. Clubs Players can team up with friends and other players to form Clubs where they can customize their logos, earn access to a Club garage social hub, compete against other clubs, show off in the Airfield Playground and battle in high-stakes races in Territory Wars. Locations Race across iconic licensed circuits and custom built tracks based of real-world city streets - from tracks like Brands Hatch to the streets of London, Monaco and Moscow. The Future Designed as an evolving online experience World of Speed will be supported with regular updates and the addition of new cars, tracks, gameplay modes and much more for years to come! 4. What a sixpack! Slightly Mad Studios' Project CARS just keeps growing as Audi has just been announced to become the latest brand to join the community-assisted simulator! As many as six Audis are joining the game, including the latest rendition of their supercar: the 2013 R8 V10 Plus as well as its big brother, the 2013 R8 LMS Ultra GT3, which will challenge the recently announced Bentley amongst other GT3 racers. The 1989 90 IMSA GTO is a beast that could prove to be tough but rewarding to control and it will surely find its own fans. Le Mans heritage is not forgotten as included are both the 2002 R8 LMP900 and the 2011 R18 TDI LMP1, both of which have shown their domination at the track. Last but not least is my personal favourite, the small 2012 A1 Quattro - a 256hp version of Audi's tiny A1 which I'm really eager to test! All of these cars will surely be great fun to drive and they'll be hitting the tracks in Fall 2014 when Project CARS is released for the PS4, Xbox One, SteamOS, Wii U and of course PC. 5. Lookout Below! Don't ask me what is arriving 'from the sky' or when we can expect it, but it probably wouldn't hurt to make the occasional glance upwards in-between focusing on the next corner exit. Before you jump onto the track, however, check out hybrid.art's new video trailer, embedded below for your convenience.
  6. Most Excellent! Radical! The word that was said by everyone from Bill & Ted to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is synonymous with something that is of course totally tubular! And this works in well with the latest news about the licensing of Radical Sportscars to appear in Slightly Mad Studios' most triumphant crowd-funded racer Project CARS. Three of the British company's righteous vehicles will appear including the canopy-having RXC Turbo coupe which is in a departure for the prototype racers actually fully road-legal, and are said to "play a pivotal role in Project CARS' extensive career mode". Project CARS puts players behind the wheel of the race-ready SR3 "RS version" that is powered by a 260bhp Powertec 1500cc 4-cylinder engine. Drivers who have successfully mastered the SR3 RS can graduate to the SR8 RX. A faster and more powerful version of the SR3, the SR8 RX is powered by a RPX 2.7 liter V8 engine, giving aspiring racers 430hp to prove themselves with. Radical in Project CARS Radical SR3 RS Radical SR8 RX Radical RXC Turbo Radical Sportscars for Project CARS [gallery size=gallery-thumbnail" itemtag="div" icontag="span" link="file" columns="3] Project CARS is due out on PC, PS4, Xbox One and .....Wii U around Autumn/Fall 2014. For more on the game or WMD check out their website. Thanks - WMDPortal
  7. Carlsberg don't make Trailers... It seems that the crowd-funded project by Slightly Mad Studios Project Cars has been going on forever, in fact you could almost believe that Moses himself was playing the latest build when the burning bush pestered him to pay attention but alas we are here in 2014 and this looks to be the actual year when we will see the game actually released! Yeah I know how crazy is that? Those of you who have followed and are an active part of the games' development will know how it has progressed and continues to just surprise and make jaws drop with each passing phase and goal met by the development team. And with the recent move from the Xbox 360 and PS3 to their next-gen successors it's clearly evident that this game is going to be the looker of the bunch and will hopefully have the meat and not just be a pretty face. You can judge what you think yourself though with this *Jermemy Clarkson voice* astonishing trailer from WMDForum member JonZ, who if you don't know of, is very skilled at making trailers that result in you throwing money at your screen. Project CARS will be available for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam OS and Wii U (yes really) in the later part of 2014. For more info check out the the WMD website. Check out our Project Cars forum!

  13. Oh Lord, won't you license me a Mercedes-Benz Slighty Mad Studios (SMS) have recently announced on their WMDPortal website that they have licensed some of the very best that Mercedes-Benz has to offer both now and from the past. As any car fanatic will know, Mercedes-Benz has a very popular history in not only racing but also with their road cars and as you would expect the team at SMS will be bringing the cream of the crop to Project CARS (pCARS). With legends such as the 300SL W194, the much loved Sauber C9 and - my personal favourite - the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution 2 DTM and more there is going to be something for every type of motorsport (ok except for F1) fan from Le Mans to Touring Cars. That's not all of them of course and it won't just be racers only as two road cars are also going to be included in the SLS AMG and the A45 AMG. 14. A Video Tells a Thousand Screenshots Some have wondered if the drool-inducing screenshots regularly shared really were indicative of gameplay visuals, despite the game not actually having any photo mode yet. Screenshot master plm5 has put together this video that does a good job at answering these people. Note that due to recent experimental testing with various new anti-aliasing modes, there were stuttering issues in some shots. If you needed more excuses to update to the latest build and have a play, the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X and Mustang Shelby Boss have both been added this week.

  18. Well well well. What do we have here, as we already know a new Test Drive game dedicated to Ferrari has been hinted at since around the middle of the year when a listing for it was found on GameStop. Well now we have an announcement from a small publisher called bigben who appear to be publishing the title in certain regions of Europe, meaning that someone else will be taking over the rest and also that Atari are probably going to be doing the damage [not literally] in North America. Listings for the game are starting to appear on retail sites such as amazon, gamestop, newegg among others so keep an eye out for more in the future. With Slightly Mad Studios no doubt being the team behind this game and it basically being their ill-fated 'Ferrari Project' then believe it or not, this could be an absolute belter of a game and may be one of the few to actually cater to those who want a sim and those who want an easy casual racer. Let's hope Atari and others just leave SMS to it and don't EA the game like what happened with Shift. 20. See the Next Top Model here! So you think you know all there is to know about building model cars for video games. You've seen models recycled in sequels, you are familiar with the various LODs used in competing games, and maybe have even borrowed a few models to mod into another game. All this knowledge then enables you to complain when cars end up being resold or when they don't appear as early or as accurate as we'd all like. Wouldn't you just love to have a chat with these developers and watch over their shoulder as they get these models game-ready? Well, that's not as impossible as it sounds. Over at the WMD forums all members with tool packs can view the Vehicles forum and browse through each sub-forum for every licensed car manufacturer. Inside you'll find a locked thread where staff post updates and screenshots for each milestone they hit as they work on building a car model. Then there is a discussion thread where you can ask the developers questions, share feedback, and point out any issues. There are also threads where members gather reference material in one place to help out further. Developers essentially report progress in the WMD forums as if we were their supervisors. So these locked threads where developers report progress; what's in them? I'm glad you asked. Below is a small selection of images from one such thread. You can see one of the developers building the 1980 Group 5 Ford Capri, including mechanical components often omitted in other racing games. The thread is locked simply to keep the staff posts grouped together instead of spread between all the other member posts; there is a separate discussion thread for each car model. And let's not forget about similar threads for other parts of the game. Witness the massive attention to detail to bring the Nordschleife to life, be astounded at updates to the weather system as they are previewed, tested and released, discuss future multiplayer features (and race online with) Senior Producer Andy Garton, watch early pit screw animations, contribute to the grid girls references thread, and have fun in general trying to shape one of the best up-and-coming racing titles with like-minded people from around the world. [gallery size=gallery-thumbnail" itemtag="div" icontag="span" link="file" columns="5] The Ford Capri makes its first appearance in Build 345, released to Team Members on Friday 9 November 2012.
  21. Project CARS gets the Hamilton Touch! Slightly Mad Studios is delighted to announce the newest contributor to Project CARS as real-life racing driver Nicolas Hamilton has joined the studio as Handling Consultant for the new title. Nicolas is an excellent fit for Project CARS as his experience combines vast knowledge from racing in the real world and roots in simulation racing, allowing him to understand both sides and effectively help Project CARS fulfil its potential. Born in Herfordshire, England, in 1992, Nicolas was brought up in the motorsports world alongside older brother Lewis. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Nicolas has always made sure this wouldn’t stop him from pursing his passion for racing. After a first try of karting at the age of 7, Nicolas’ racing career kicked into higher gear in 2010 when he impressed everyone testing a BMW M3 at Palmer Sport. His smooth driving style earned him his MSA Novice Racing License and secured him a seat in the Air Asia Renault Clio Cup where he has been competing ever since. Nicolas has started his second Clio Cup season this year, driving for T.C.R. You can check out a video of Nicolas in action below. Aside from making it in the real racing world, Nicolas has also made a name for himself in simulation racing, finishing first in the 2009 SBTCC Championship and racing successful in plenty of other community-organized sim racing events. Nicolas will be assisting the development team with making the handling in Project CARS as authentic as possible, as well as providing other general feedback. Furthermore, he’ll join tens of thousands of members in the WMD forums, sharing his view of all the latest developments in a weekly blog for all members to enjoy. 22. Over 4.75 Million US Dollars raised! Little over a year has passed since Ian Bell shared his idea with fans on the NoGripRacing.com forums (following Shift 2 support discussions). When reading about a concept for a community sim racing game few could have imagined what we have today. Advances in physics, weather, sounds, and the recent addition of stable multiplayer racing have driven members to increase project funding at record rates over the past 2 months. Both members and staff were ecstatic when the target was met on Sunday 11 November, 2012. Ian's response is below: From the whole team at SMS we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the support you've given us this past year. This is an innovative business model which we are convinced is the way of the future as regards game development. It's been a privilege to learn the ropes as we went along with the help of you all. Now it's time for me to sign an innovative deal to get game out there in style next year. THANK YOU!!!!! - Ian Bell, Head of Studio Andy Garton, Development Director, was all too happy to reward members with 17 leaked screenshots of a new 'Country Road' track currently in development, based in the Caucasus Mountains of Russia. A sneak preview is shown at the top of this page. Unlike similar community-funded games using the KickStarter platform, World of Mass Development (WMD) offers members regular pre-alpha game builds, encourages extensive communication between players and developers, and promises members a share in the profits. The other main difference is that KickStater games are generally of the Indie genre, while Project CARS aims to compete with AAA titles. Sim Racing Heritage SlightlyMad Studios is made up of staff formerly branded as Blimey Games, and going back even further to SimBin, with the release of GTR, GT Legends, and GTR 2. SimBin itself was first formed from a group of modders of F1 2002, an Image Space Incorporated title (makers of rFactor). These now-old sims are still often played thanks to their physics, wheel support, and massive amounts of modded content. A younger (and thinner) Ian Bell at a track-side product demo of GTR (2005) Happy memories indeed. We effectively developed the game "for free", working normal jobs during the day and GTR at night and weekends. Publishers weren't chomping at the bit when we just said "we can do this, honest", but once we had it done it was a different story thankfully. - Andy Garton, SMS Development Director Join the discussion about Project CARS (pCARS) on the forum!
  23. Spot The Difference! MotoGamesTV have highlighted what a years worth of game development looks like with two videos comparing current gameplay with that from a year ago.
  24. Hey guys, whether you are waiting for this game or not the fact of the matter is it is coming and in June some time by the look of it. Dates vary from 8th to 29th and Later for the UK and Australia but anyway I digress. So here we have trailer #2 and I think you'll agree this is a better one than that crappy mess of an Announcement Trailer and I have to say the Nordschleife is looking particularly stunning from the views you see of it as is that fictional track that looks to be based in my enck of the woods up in glorious and sunny Scotland. No that is true well for this week anyway! :D So without further ado, here it is.
