may I ask why I am not allow a signature? ..or at least, that's the message I receive when I hit the signature link in the FAQ section - do I need a certain amount of posts? or am I going thru some kind of proby status thing..

You need a certain amount of posts, but don't worry it's not much.

Check your Welcome PM for information regarding this. It's basically to curb spam as much as possible however don't worry, like Melman said it's not a huge amount you need to hit in order to have one.

Wider for the avatar, not the signature. It's 150px wide now.
