The Corvette,Supercar or Supercrap?

Right now, I can think of nothing that really gives you more bang for your buck than the Corvette (or 2011 Ford Mustang). Both are very great for what they cost.

If your wanting Brand new, then your right, but try second hand and you can find some nice things, Such as TVR Sagaris's & Tuscans!(The UK's answer to a Vette) Although thats just in the UK.

On a side note: I would really appreciate it if Chevrolet would release, at the very least, plans for the C7 Corvette before we are all dead and gone lol.

Last I heard about it was that it could be mid-Engined!:eek2: Wheather thats true or not i dont know...but if it is then that kinda takes away what a vette is to me! And theres already a mid-engined US car...its called the Saleen S7!(Take that in mind Corvette!)

I may be a little biased when it comes to Vettes, as it is my all time favorite American car.

Having owned an 85' C4 at the same time as an 84' Camaro Z28 I could easily compare the quality between them both.

At the time the Vette was superior in all ways. Build quality, horsepower, torque, interior, materials etc... the Vette always came out on top.

But we are talking about two different cars here.

At one point two of my neighbors had C5's. One said C5 was hand built for a special GM event and ended up afterward at a dealership where my neighbor purchased it. That paticular Vette was faster than other exact model Vette.

The build quality as well benefitted from the handbuild.

I was able to look over them and even ride in them. So I saw and felt the quality compared to my C4. Which was much better than what I had.

Now catching C6's including Z06's & ZR1's at local shows I can see the quality is getting even better.

But the interiors have always been spartan, and that includes 80's-90's 5.0 Mustangs & Porsches.

I remember seeing in the 90's a brand new 928 S4 on a showroom asking price was over $98K with a horrible spartan interior & of all things an indash 'cassette' player NO CD! Car was nice but the interior was plasticky old 70's style Datsun if you ask me. Not worth the asking price!

The new ZR1 has been tested against the Lambo SV several times and is comparable in track speed and handling to a point. Just as one example.

The ZR1 is around $120K USD and a Murc SV is around $400+K USD.

So I think the Vette is a great bargain for what it is.

Could it stand some improvement? Of course.

Then again it is not handbuilt, nor gets the assembly line attention that a Ferrari or Lambo or others would get.

Then of course there is the Lingenfelter & other package upgrades you can purchase to make it faster & more responsive.

I don't think it has been around for over 50 years for no reason.

I don't think it's the best car ever, but it is a good car for the money.

The Corvette still stands as an iconic American car with a nice heritage.

But many cars out there easily bypass it's quality & speed.

My 1985 Vette sold off in 2008.

It was confirmed a couple of months ago that the C7 Corvette will indeed be a front engine, rear wheels drive car. The engine has also been confirmed, which is GM's new 4.4 liter V8 with Direct Injection. So, the mileage should be increased enough to make the CAFE people shut up lol. GM also stated to MotorTrend magazine that the design for the C7 has been finalized, however, they have not shown it which makes me sad.

They have already ruled out the mid engine idea. So that plus a new interior that is worth something would mean that no one will be disappointed lol
