  1. 1. What would you rate TDU2 out of 10? (1 being the worst)

Got the game today (PS3 version). I haven't yet played it enough to give it a fair rating, so I won't vote in the poll for now. I'll post some of my first impressions though.

I'll start with the positive stuff. It still feels like good ol' TDU, where you can just get into the car and explore the island. The graphics seem very good.

Now the not-so-positive stuff. The cutscenes are annoying IMO, and to make matters worse they cannot be skipped. Moreover, there's no way to get the GPS to STFU (that or I'm too dumb to find it). It keeps guiding me to the next race when I just want to cruise :fp: The handling also seems to be a problem in faster cars, the Cali felt kinda weird to drive... maybe I'll get used to it though.

Despite the minor annoyances, I'm having fun playing the game, so I'll give it a 7/10 for now.

Okay, i got the game on monday (xbox 360), have played it for many many hours. At least 15 hours since i got it.

I for one, really like it. Yes its not a perfect game, yes its glitchy, you get stuck and have to go back to the dashboard when you want to change a pictute, yes sometimes when you get in a car your looking the wrong way round but there all little things that can be patched. The handling was really weird when i first started playing and with high powered cars its really twitchy, but i am used to it now. The cut scenes are anoying and cant be skipped and I dont like how you have to do races in whole championships so that you get a decent amount of money. I haven't been online on it yet cause i dont have gold membership, but i like to just drive around aimessly just like the last, there aren't half as many AI drivers racing round and they dont race anymore, they do about 15mph. But i dont care, im an avid TDU fan and nothing will put me off the game. Most things that are wrong with it can be patched or fixed or something and I think that once you've discovered all shops and showrooms, got to top level with a nice variety of cars then it'll be just like the old one. Im sure the clubs will be much better in this one and you'll be able to have better cruises and more variety in the cars that you'll cruise with, especially with the sticker shops etc.. Not managed to get my social level up yet because i dont have live, that sucks a bit but its nothing that bothers me.

I'll give it 8 out of 10. If its patched and the bugs are sorted out then it'll be a 10. I wont vote yet cause i havent got live, when ive got live and ive joined a club and seen the social aspect of it then i'll vote.

Jump to the map, find the Championship it's asking you to head for and then select it, click on it and select Remove Target. Alternatively target any road or nearby dealer via GPS Target, then Remove Target immediately after.

Job done!

7/10

After a first impression with the game, I was quite disappointed with it. However, after getting acclimated to the physics and playing it for a bit, I have come to enjoy it more.

For starters, the storyline is both hilarious and painful to watch. It looks as though they sat around until about mid-January of this year and thought, "Crap! We forgot the storyline!". None of it really makes any sense and I feel like it is all trying too hard. The narration is pitiful and completely wrong half the time. "What drama! The Wilder brothers are squabbling with Stuart again!" comes to mind. But my favorite is when you are in a race all alone, such as a time challenge, and the narration says something like, "All of your favorite racers are here! Stuart! The Wilder brothers!" Yet when you look around, none of them are actually there lol.

The physics are hilarious at first. Apparently all cars come with an extreme ABS system, and counter-steer is all but absent. Once you get used to it, the cars are generally easy to drive. However, if you lose control of the vehicle, it's basically game over. There is no saving it.

Cars? Most of them seem to be modeled well. I can at least tell what models they are supposed to be representing. A few are a bit off, the Ferrari Enzo and Mustang GT come to mind. The Mustang actually looks to be the worst of the bunch. Come on Atari, a GT Mustang with a single exhaust pipe, V6 package wheels, and the wrong turn signals? You can do better than that.

The races are just as easy to win as in the first one. Just get around the AI at the beginning and you should have no problem staying ahead. It doesn't really even matter what car you are using for each class, all of them will beat the AI just as easily as the others.

Money isn't really an issue either. The races themselves are are pitiful when it comes to prize money, but the championships are excellent. The only problem I find is that they never give you enough money for the "buy all cars" achievement as many of the cars on this game are quite expensive.

Overall, it is a pretty nice game I suppose. However, if it had come out in 2008 or 2009, it would have seemed even better. The game is certainly good, but not as good as it should have been after four years of development.

Thank being said, I would love to know why Adam doesn't seem to have a last name...

I'm enjoying it, taking everything into account it's pretty much what I expected it to be. I like how the islands have turned out, in some ways despite me saying so before the game was released I quite enjoy the Casino when I ever eventually go to it. Apart from a few select cars the handling doesn't seem too bad to me either, it's far from realistic but it's fun and easy enough to get used to. Also, from my experience the servers seem stable and I'm always connected to at least two other people, there's never any lag apart from when I come across someone who does just have a rubbish internet connection. I've yet to try the Social side of things because I've just been ploughing on throw the championships to earn some money. Performance is fine, I was running it with the graphics on Medium until yesterday when I tried out all the settings on High and I dare say the FPS has improved slightly, but it was fine anyway. I'm finding the game has a lot of re-playability as well, despite some of it's pitfalls (how easy it is to win) mentioned in the next paragraph. I've yet to meet up with anyone from these forums for a cruise or a race or anything else but the game's keeping me on my toes well enough, I've still got a few championships to go as well as most of the driving missions and multiplayer side of things so it should keep me occupied for a while yet.

The things that let it down for me though are the lack of a properly functioning clutch and brake pedal although I'm expecting those two issues to be resolved quick-ish. One of the main things that annoys me though is the story line aspect of it and the characters. These stupid phone calls I keep getting saying Miami, Ryan or Stuart want to race me to prove themselves and they're even silly enough to bet their car are getting on my nerves, I've read that I can't sell their cars if I do win them so I haven't accepted the phone calls. Surely they should get the message after 28,000 declines of their invitations to race that I don't want to show them up any more after beating them silly in every championship thus far. That's another thing, I've yet to lose a race or even come close to it, even in A1, it's a walk in the park. Tess regains some respect with her constantly wobbling breasts though, someone was paying too much attention to detail on that side of things, lol. The commentary at the start of every license and race wears me thin because there's only a few phrases they use and after less than one championship or license you've heard them all. The licenses are all pretty easy and samey as well. "I know! Let's give them a faster car and see if that makes it more difficult for them" - Not really seeing as the faster the cars get they generally handle and grip better as well.

I've probably missed some things out but overall I'd probably give the game a 8/10.

When you said 7.5, are you sure you weren't just rounding 7.46 up to 7.5, in which case you should actually be rounding 7.46 down to 7?

FFFFFFFFFF, don't confuse me with your Mathematical jibberish :p

I got a D Maths at GCSE, don't ask me anything to do with numbers :sulk:

Changed it to 8/10 which is what I voted on the poll anyway.

I dont get what people are saying about the handling at all. If you want hyper realism buy a car, if you want as close as you can come buy a simulator or go for the lesser option and buy forza and if you want a rich person simulator with arcade aspects buy test drive. The handling may not be accurate but its fun and fits in well with the theme as these arnt racetracks were dirving on.

I don't want realism I just want a tdu without the awkward handling.

"Rich person simulater" Cmon son the game is called test drive unlimited its not sims with cars.Have you even played tdu?

Its blatent they rushed and dumbed down the game.

I'd score the game 8 out of 10

Graphics seems much improved over TDU1.

Avatar interaction is silly and pointless, I mean why waste the time developing the ability for your avatar to wave at another one?? I mean once you done it your hardly going to use it as a means of communicating!

I have no problems with the vehicles handling and stuff but I'm not as expert as some people get on TDU!

My biggest disappointment is the photo mode, its actually worse than in TDU1 which I dont understand, the photo mode was actually the aspect of TDU I enjoyed the most; setting up meetings and so on and organising photo shoots was just awesome but the fact the uploader never worked was annoying but then there was an awkward thing you could buy to get the pics of the Xbox onto your PC so it was kind of good but now there is no uploader whatsoever, press start to go to the photo mode the game doesnt actually pause and so its difficult if not impossible to plan action shots and so on. Also in TDU1 you could move the camera left & right much more than now so you could actually take scenic shots and stuff but thats gone in this version. I know the photo mode probably isn't the most important thing for everyone in a driving game so each to their own and all that.

Love the ability to display your photos in your houses though; would just love the ability to share them!!

Overall I'd say its a nice 2nd version of a fabulous game just think that for 40.00 the game should work from day one, the stability of the server gets on my nerves!

Oh and I also dont like having to pay 800 points to use the casino either!

Well I’ve been playing it about a week now so hear go’s.

I had already played in the beta and despite the many bugs and glitches it was still fun to play and was looking forward to a fully working copy and although I soon found this not to be the case. DLC took three days to appear, Friends list kept disappearing, Random crashes, Cars handling so bad the Stig would find it hard to drive them AND YOU KNOW WHAT (put your fingers in your ears Atari, Eden) I LOVE IT !:)

I am sure most of the things above will be sorted out in time and even I’m getting used to the physics, Hell I even think I’m learning to drive better .I am running the game on maxed out settings and the islands look beautiful as do the cars for me the game can only get better .

My original vote was "1", because i was furious about the bad handling. However, now that i have found proper wheel settings, the game is actually great fun. Steering still lacks feel, but it's way better than before.

Shame on me for being premature ... :o

Anyway, is there a way to change my vote? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Diablo. Well then ... my teeny-weeny review:

Graphics are nice, most of all the lighting effects are way better then those in TDU1. The HDR in TDU1 was always a bit too intense for my taste.

Engine sounds are a bit better than before, but still not really great. Which i think is a shame.

I'm not quite sure about the physics and handling. On one hand it seems that corner slides work better, it's easier to catch the vehicle and get it back into a straight line. On the other hand steering lacks a lot of feel. Force feedback (if there is any) is not good and there's not enough response from the vehicle. Also my G25 vibrates a lot of the time. I hope Eden will address the handling/physics issues soon.

Overall the game is much better than expected. Mostly stable, online mode works well (at least in my case), much fun to play and sightly addictive. :D

I raise my vote from 1/10 to 7/10.

quite agree with you sir.

I've posted mine ages ago actually in the atari forums:

---------

So tdu2 , night drive , dynamic weather you're all excited I bet. And I was too a year ago when it was announced. Because I was a huge fan of the original. Although before you rush into the shops and buy it I got some news for you. This game has a huge problem:

The Physics

yes the pyhsics. I have a g25 racing wheel and I've never felt so detached from it. I was expecting at least an improvement given that one of the aspects that made the original game legenedary was its hardcore mode. It was the only game to support the clutch accurately until gt5 came along.

Meanwhile in the eden studios too many people were busy designing plastic surgery buildings and new sofas so they forgot to add the full clutch support. Nowadays it's more like a button, it's on or off. The clutch however is not a problem compared to what steering has.

It really has no feeling at all, no matter what combination you try the force feedback is a joke. And don't get me started on the brakes. The button fashion continues with that as well. You can pretty much stop in 2 secs no matter what speed you're travelling at.

The gearing is an issue as well. In the old game if a car had a proper manual gearbox you would use the h-shifter. And if the car had pedal shift gearbox you'd use them. Though the guys at eden thought what we needed was a system that wouldn't support both of them at the same time. So you have to get into options and change the setting every time you change your car(gearbox style)

Don't get me wrong I like all the new stuff but I just think before having our avatars moving around the buildings we should get some sort of pleasure from driving as well.

So there we are , I assume I can think of 1 remarkable aspect of tdu2 and that is , it reminded us how good the original was.

----------

in addition >

-game is full of glitches/bugs (most of them are collisions and textures)

-It seems to me like an half-arsed job this game, but it's only fair because atari is nearly going bankrupt and there's evidence for it all over the place

-Photomode is a disgrace, I've never seen anything ruined this badly. You can't actually pause any moment while driving around with your friends. So if you want to take an action or a flying shot go and play tdu1... Oh and there's no forcal lenght so there's not a lot to do with the photomode.

-People say graphics have improved, no they haven't? You can see the shadows of trees on the ground at nights, the headlights have no effect on any shadow(dx9 still..) , far objects are still unrendered or rendered badly. Some of the cockpit textures are taken straight out of test drive 6
