Sony's Playstation network (PSN) got shutdown 8 days ago because it was hacked, Sony can now confirm that people's Credit Card Details, E-Mail Addresses and other personal details have been stolen but they're still trying to understand the extend of the theft. Sony is now rebuilding PSN from the ground up and no-one knows when it will come back on-line again

BBC news said that "There's no evidence that credit card details have been stolen, but Sony cannot rule it out"

Either way, them hackers need a proper good punch. It's a good job we don't pay for PSN

Er, no they can't. Only some, and they're still trying to understand the extend of the theft.

Update from late news sony can confirm that up to 77 million accounts worlwide have been hacked and personal details stolen, and that Sony are working to try and restore some of their services within a week

They used a normal console and Changed code to run as a "Dev" console. Its Sonys own fault for having no sercurity checks or anything. As for the cards situatuation, if it is the team "anoyomous" then the card details wont have been taken. Probbly just sony trying to stop people supporting the group

I kinda just want to play Portal 2 in co-op mode

Me too. (Still downloading it from Steam) :p

Apparantly 5 Anonymous people have been arrested, and now they're going to wage war on the governement, all because they don't want to pay for their video games...

:fp: <--- doesn't do this justice

They were storing details in unencrypted text files... I don't support hacking but that in itself is disgraceful. But hey, on the bright side you don't pay for it and who knows, maybe once it's back it will be better.

Live isn't all that great, it's just better and worse in different ways.

Has anyone else tried to sign into PSN and got the message that you will be emailed? Have you recieved that email? I have tried a few times at least half an hour ago and no emails have come in yet, so... Im a bit frustrated.

PSN was up for me last night. Managed to redeem Portal 2 on PC :D Yey!

But then after jazz and I went to the pub, and came back, PSN was down again.

One of my mates has just this minute synced about 5 games worth of trophies from PSN to Facebook. I think its just temperamental for the moment :)

They're not allowed to turn it back on in Japan yet until they show the government that they've implemented certain things to make sure personal information can't be stolen again (read it at Engadget)

I just tried to sign in again, and its changed but still no go. Now it tells me that I need to change my password, then changes to another screen saying that a server error has occured.

Yeah, you'll need to reset your password, security and stuff. Servers might still be a bit dodgy, so give it some time :)

But I cant change my password coz i havent recieved any of the emails that were supposedly sent out about changing my password :P

Nor did I, it comes up as you log into PSN on your console.

You can only change the password on the console that you created your account on.

Otherwise you have to go to the Sony/PS website and request the change, in which case they'll send you a verification email.

Oh are you freaking serious... I had to get my ps3 replaced a few months before this crap happened. I hope they actually send it out, unlike when it supposedly sends one to your email when you try on your console...

edit: up to 24 hooouuuurrssss god damn it...
