Hello!

A little bit about myself to begin with: I'm in my 20s and from the UK. I joined this forum as I greatly enjoy racing games (the good ones, at least) and I also enjoy modding them. Almost all games where it's possible, I love to modify, tweak and often break them and that's always fun, too. I've recently replaced my Driving Force GT steering wheel with a Logitech G27 and have absolutely loved the difference and as such have begun playing lots of racing games again. As well as some not so racey driving games; namely Euro Truck Simulator 2 (that game's awesome) as well as Farming Simulator. Haha!

Short review of both wheels for you guys:

Driving Force GT: Great wheel - pretty solidly built but it just isn't quite solid enough to be really nice. 900 degree turning is quite awesome for some games.

G27: Epic wheel! Really solidly built, works well with most games without any issues, is awesome in almost every way. The only two things I would "complain" about would be the lack of seven gears on the H-Shifter, though reverse can be used for 7th and you can just assign another button for reverse if need be. And also, there's no force feedback in the pedals which is a bit of a shame but not a major problem at all.

Firstly, TDU is an awesome game series that I wish would continue, but thanks to terrible companies, no longer exists. Back when I first got an Xbox 360 (when the Elite first came out), it came with a demo of TDU1 and was probably the first game I bought for it. I played that game to death and absolutely loved it! Then when TDU2 came out, I put no question in to buying it. By then, however, I had started to use Xbox Live (which I didn't have when I was playing TDU1) and playing online with and against friends was awesome, apart from the MAJOR issues with servers and almost never actually being able to join the same server as your friends or even get in races together. Since then, I've played that to death too (I think I've completed it four or five times already..... Haha)! BUT... I have also switched from console to PC gaming over the past few years and unfortunately don't have a copy of TDU2 for PC; which leads to the main reason I joined this forum.

The main reason I joined is that I want to ask some questions from you knowledgeable folks.

- What is the state of the servers on TDU2 for PC; as in, how easy is it to join a game with friends and race/cruise around together?

- What is the state of the Unofficial Patch (is it still being worked on)? I've seen how awesome it is and it's basically what really made me want to buy a PC version of TDU2.

- Does anyone know how long the TDU2 servers will last? I read somewhere that they might be going offline soon which (if they work at the moment) will be a bit of a bummer to me.

- If the main servers do go down, would it be possible - and will it ever be likely - that community servers would be put into service?

Thanks in advance for answering the questions and I hope to enjoy my time spent on these forums!

TL;DR: Hi guys! If you wouldn't mind reading those questions and answering if you can, I'd be grateful.

Wait, are you suggesting that TDU2 is a good racing game? :panic:

Current state appears to be online but with somewhat regular downtime, often on weekends.

Unofficial patch continues development as long as the modders don't start World War 3

TDU1 servers lasted 5-6 years.

Community servers are unlikely.

The Crew is essentially TDU3 (made by the TDU1 devs) so that will be the upgrade path for a lot of us. :)

Never heard of "The Crew" but if it's essentially TDU3, I'll certainly enjoy it. I'll look into that shortly.

If TDU1 servers lasted 5-6 years, are you stipulating that TDU2 may last the around the same amount of time and so will probably be around for 2 or maybe even 3 more years yet?

Awesome news about the Unofficial patch... Now I'm just more tempted to buy the damn game! Though lack of community servers could be an issue if the above statement doesn't hold out.

And yeah... TDU2, though many things were wrong with it or just didn't seem right, was (in my opinion) genuinely a good, fun driving game. The "story" was pretty pathetic and don't get me started on the voice acting, animation and physics....... Alright, there was a lot wrong with it... But I absolutely love driving in it and it has some of my most favourite cars (does that make sense?). I think the best thing about it is the free roam and the islands. I loved the two island idea and I think they did it pretty well. And the drive around Hawaii... I love that race (well, time trial). Last time I checked on the Xbox, I had somewhere around the 40th place on the leaderboards in my Zonda Tricolore, which also happens to be my favourite car of all time. Nothing before it or since it is as awesome (in my opinion).

EDIT: What the heck is with the profile Avatars? Haha! At least I've found a forum that accommodates people like me who never set one up.

EDIT2: OK.... Just watched the trailer for The Crew. If the real game is anything like that trailer; this game will be epic. It did look like there may have been a couple of things that I don't care for in there, but as long as it's not ramming everything down your throat if you don't want it, I'm fine with it. The only other problem I could foresee with it is that it was made by Ubisoft and I know that they're not exactly known for avoiding micro-transactions which I see as the bane of existence. I despise those damn things. And it's another thing that I didn't like in TDU2. Haha!

Hey there welcome to the :duck:!

We used to have a "no avatar" avatar which was a goat wearing red sunglasses but we changed this for the random pizza slices and co.

As for The Crew, yes definitely check it out as the team behind it are formed from a large part of the original TDUteam and our recent playtest showed that it was certainly heading in a very promising direction.

Glad to have you with us, now gives us your teeth!
