*Archived* "TDU PC - Modifications [Walk-throughs]"

Note: That some mods may get you banned should you use them online also.

Due to EULA rules, not many modifications can be done to TDU. However there are mods around, which have not been closed on the official forums, [all except the Damage Mod - which has been removed].

This thread if for the PC members of TDU:C who do not visit the Official Forums. And may not know what they're missing out on.

These are all OK with online, however the other people you are crusing with do not see your changes, unless they do exactly the same thing.

The mods which I currently know of are:

- Rim swapping

- Offline/Online profile conversion

- Making TDU Night time

- Making TDU Misty

- Car Body Swapping (Painting unpaintable cars)

- Damage Mod (not physical only engine wise)

Walk-throughs: [currently only XP][With vista Black Skin]

- Rim Swapping:

This is a very simple process, and requires a bit of "trial and error". You can only replace any rim file by another which is smaller in file size (bytes).

Make sure you back up everything, unless you want to have to reinstall TDU when you decide the rims don't look as good.

Step 1

Find the rims you wish to move to another car - and copy. [i will be placing my 'SKYGTR_F_01.bnk' Skyline rims on the 575 Maranello in this demonstration]

'C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\Vehicules\Rim\Nissan'

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/nissan2.jpg

Step 2

Find the rims you wish to replace - paste the replacment rims into the folder and delete the rims you wish to change [i will be deleting the '[/color]F575_M_F_01.bnk' 575 Maranello rims and copying the 'SKYGTR_F_01.bnk' Skyline rims into the Ferrari Folder]

'C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\Vehicules\Rim\Ferrari'

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Ferrari.jpg

Step 4

Rename the Copied rims to the name of the deleted rims. [i've renamed the copied 'SKYGTR_F_01.bnk' Skyline rims to 'F575_M_F_01.bnk' (575 rims)]

'C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\Vehicules\Rim\Ferrari'

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Ferrari2.jpg

And there you have it. Rims have been swapped.

- Misty Mod Vision:

This allows you to have mist within TDU.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Mist.jpg

Make sure you back up everything, unless you want to have to reinstall TDU when you decide the Mist doesn't look as good.

Download these files:

http://stepaonline.gorodok.net/myst/Weather.ini

http://stepaonline.gorodok.net/myst/Weather_HDRI.ini

And replace the files within here with the downloaded ones:

'C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\FX'

Thanks to Detress for the method and files and penusliski for the in-game picture.

- Night Mod Vision:

This allows you to have night within TDU. This has synronised weather, and also has the sun moving from east to west, and not moving up and down like the default.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Night2.jpg

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Night.jpg

Make sure you back up everything, unless you want to have to reinstall TDU when you decide the Night doesn't look as good.

Download this .zip files:

http://www.siteupload.de/p174684-NightSunModv02zip.html

Step 1

Extract the .zip into 'C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\FX' - replacing the original files with the downloaded ones.

Thanks to crazydoc for the in-game pictures, method and files.

- Offline/Online Profile Conversions:

What this is: This method will convert your offline profile into an online profile.

The purpose: Allows you to repair a profile that has somehow lost its online capability (in other words, the game believes you're no longer on Gamespy)

What you need: A backup of your saved files (I hope you backed up regularly!) OR Your "broken" profile, untouched.

STEP 1

Make a new folder on your computer and copy your backup in there. If you haven't yet deleted your broken profile in frustration, then copy that profile. Do not just move the profile, as we'll be working on it and you want to preserve an original somewhere.

STEP 2

Start the game. Delete your broken profile and create a new one. Register it online with Gamespy (the name you use doesn't matter - it can be the same name or another one entirely.) You will need to fully complete the tutorial sequence, which means:

a) Rent a car

b) Buy your house

c) Beat the rookie race

d) Return to your home, enter and exit it.

You should, at this point, be back in freeride mode, with the ability to use the map and travel wherever you want to. You can now exit the game.

STEP 3

Next, you will need a "Hex Editor". This will read the unreadable characters in your profiles and allow some form of "interpretation" (loose term here. You'll still be looking at gibberish, but at least it'll be recognizable characters!)

As per kadettgte's suggestion, do a Google search for Hex Workshop and install that with the default settings (in other words, you don't need to configure anything)

STEP 4

Now, you are ready to repair your profile. Open up Hex Workshop, maximize its window so you can better see what's going on, then go to Tools > Compare > Compare Files. In the window that appears, you get to select two files to open. Your source file will be the offline profile. Your target file will be the online profile. "Source" and "Target" are a convention - the order doesn't actually matter. We'll begin with the files playersave file. They can be found in [profilename]\playersave\.

For the options just below in the window, make sure Resynchronizing Compare is selected. You can now press OK.

Two windows will appear. At the top will be the offline playersave. At the bottom will be the online one. There will be highlighting here and there. Disregard it.

STEP 5

Now that your files are open for comparison, go to the online file, on the bottom. In the menu bar, go to Edit > Goto. Input 50 as the offset, and select Dec as the measurement (it's below the text box). Also make sure you choose From beginning of file.

Press OK. Your cursor will be placed before the 50th byte of the file. Select all the data from the beginning of the file 'till the 50th byte. Go to Edit > Copy.

Next, use Goto again to go to the 50th byte of the offline file, select from the beginning 'till the 50th byte again, then go to Edit > Paste.

You have finished patching this file. Save (say "yes" to making a backup, as screw-ups happen) and then close both files.

STEP 6

We're almost there. Using Windows Explorer, go to the online profile: My Documents\Test Drive Unlimited\savegame\[profilename]

Delete its contents.

STEP 7

Using Windows Explorer, go to the offline profile you just patched, copy its contents and paste them into My Documents\Test Drive Unlimited\savegame\[profilename]

STEP 8

Lastly, in this newly pasted profile, go to the playersave folder and copy its contents. Paste them into playersave2 This way, both the "current" save and the backup are marked as online, with all your goodies in it.

STEP 9

You are now ready to play. Fire up Test Drive Unlimited, connect and drive around a little bit to make sure you have everything you used to have and all the bits and pieces are in their correct place.

STEP 10

BACKUP! We don't want to lose this profile we just fixed. icon_smile.gif

PARENTHESIS

What we just did, is tell the offline profile that it's really an online profile. We preserved all the data and goodies that were in your offline profile, cars, houses, money and all, and simply replaced the little "offline" flag with an "online" one, which we salvaged from the temporary online profile you had just created.

Thanks to Shurikane ; Katrina_Lansbury and kadettgte for this method.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Alfa8C.jpg

Make sure you back up everything, unless you want to have to reinstall TDU when you decide the paint doesn't look good.

For example, if you want to get a Gallardo SE with a Maserati MC12 body, you have to:

C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\Vehicules

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Bnks.jpg

Step 1

Delete the 'Gall_SE.bnk' file

Step 2

Right click the 'Mas_MC12.bnk' file and click Copy

Step 3

Paste the 'Mas_MC12.bnk' file into the same folder and rename it to Gall_SE.bnk

Start the game and see your swap. If it doesn't work or crashes the game, put your backed up Gall_SE.bnk file into the C:/Program Files/Atari/Test Drive Unlimited/Euro/BNK/Vehicules directory. If the computer asks you if you want to replace the files, click Yes. That will make your Gallardo look like a Gallardo again.

Thanks to HappyTreeFriend for the method ; desrat for alerting and Ferrari in-game picture and SLR_mates for Alfa 8C in-game picture

- Damage Mod (not physical, only engine wise):

***************************

************************************

Warning [Damage Mod]!

- Beta version. It will be buggy and might not even work at all on your system.

- May be picked up by TDU anti-cheat detection!!!!

- Recomended for OFFLINE USE

Online use may result in IP or Account banning*

************************************

***************************

I will not be downloading this, as you have to run another .exe application along with TDU.exe, therefore I'm not trusting it, however you can do it if you want. Other people have been using it, and havn't encountered a problem.

Downlaod here - http://personal.inet.fi/koti/vfgdfg/tdumod.htm

- Engine gets damaged on impact (performance degrades)

- Tires/brakes might also get partially stuck

- Hard impact kills the engine/car completely and car needs to be changed

- You may get away with no damage in small impacts

- Makes driving more thrilling and challenging lifelike experience

- Offroad surfaces slow down the car and are harder to drive on

- Cars that have automatic gearbox (Chrysler 300C, Firepower, MB SL65 AMG, CLS 55 AMG,

- Cadillac XLR-V, Chevrolet SSR) are actually automatic. Does not modify your TDU folder, the mod is one exe file which runs beside your game

- Start the game by running tdumod.exe or you can start tdumod after starting TDU Works with retail 1.66a version

- Works online

- Use hardcore mode with tdumod for the intended experience

- New features might be added in the future if there is intrest in the mod.

Btw you put this as the reasoning behind mist and night too, which doesn't make much sense :)

Also as far as I know, these are all for offline only, are they not? Maybe it's worth a mention at the top of the guide? Not sure about night and mist, but the rims one definately is as far as I know, and I guess body swapping is similar.

Other than that this is a great idea, so gonna +Rep if I can :D

Nope, all online. But obviously the other people don't see your changes. Yeah, there was a lot to look at, I'll change the green thing - Thanks.

It seems that kalniel has removed the mist mod from the official forum as it continaed bnk files. But I havn't lined to any as there were none I could originally see. I think it was a late edition to the mod. So I shall see what is going on on the official forums, and then see if I have to delete the mist mod.

Mods discussion is alright as long as they don't require illegal software to be used to perform the modification itself. So basically you can discuss mods but not the software that may need to be used to perform such mod if it is verging on illegal.

That make sense?

It's like people discussing the most recent episode of Top Gear but they're not from the UK type thing, as long as they don't mention the means of how they got it then that's fine. That includes linking to such files or sites also.

Note: That some mods may get you banned should you use them online also.

Kalniel has said that the walk-through for the mist is fine, aslong as it doen't link to any .bnk files. Which it doesn't.

However he said he's contacted Atari, and is waiting for them to get back to him. And if they say 'no mods at all' then unforunately I guess I'll have to take this down :(

And yes, you make perfect sense. Probably helps that I'm in need of mental help ;)

Thanks for the rep both of you. I now have 119 rep points w00t. But I'm still not ahead of you Diablo :p

Thanks for both reps so close together in days Diablo. It's mainly because of you I have so many points! It's about 5 times you've repped me now :D

Good news, it's alright aslong as I don't adviertise it on the official forums.

This is a really nice guide and everything, but how do I get a black 8C? All it tells me is how to get a blue and white Gallardo? Does that mean I need to find a car that's naturally black and swap that with the 8C file? Thanks :)

I would guess so :) Trial and error unfortunately.

But Desrat's tool may help you with this (I think andreaz mentioned it above). I've never used it. http://www.wolfs-hideout.co.uk/

If you don't wat to download something which is made by a third party, then just find the cars you want using the file names. Isn't that hard :)
