Well I can't believe I am gonna say this but Blu Ray looks like it has run the High Def War :(:(.

Toshiba have decided to stop production of HD DVD Players which basically means Sony have won (great Sony fanboys are gonna have a field day now :(!)

Its all here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7252506.stm

In good noise some people say the format war is/was pointless has downloads are more convenient so there is still hope for the Blu Ray Haters (ME :D !!!!!).

LONG LIVE HD-DVD !!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting me some HD-DVD bargains :D lol.

So whats everyone's thoughts ??????

Personally I'm happy Blu-ray has won, red lasers are limited and blue lasers are cool, lol but seriously the blue laser means bigger capacities. Not to mention Blu-ray discs have already been taken to 200Gb and that this also means games can get bigger and well not better but more detail, more landscape, more variety etc...

Also one thing Sony announced not long ago was that they will leave it to the publishers whether to put a PSP format of the movie that will be transferrable via the PS3.

As for downloads, no chance right now, almost every broadband provider has STM; Strict Traffic Management so right now anyway it would be worthless.

Note: Holographic DVD is probably next to reach us.

the jump from DVD to High definition equivilents is not gonna be the same sort of mass shift as there was between VHS and DVD. the difference just isnt big enough.

I mean, VHS took years to go, even though DVD was massively better picture, was much more durable, offered many more features, was cheaper to manufacture and the format had been around for ages (the 80's for crying out loud) and there was just need for a new format anyway.

DVD to Blu-Ray will give us erm... a slightly better picture at a worse pricepoint. its still a disk that plays films at the end of the day. Compared to VHS's lifespan, DVD is much shorter. we dont need an upgrade yet

i cant see the hardware distribution changing any time soon either. i mean, if a PC game/program was so big that it needed a Blu Ray disk then it would take about 4 hours to install...

last i knew, High def formats were accounting for roughly 5% market share, so simply put 'big bloody whoop'

anyway, who cares about blu-ray... the future is HVD

3.9 terrabyte disks ftw!

19th February 2008

Is the day I officially gave up on Sony !

So no more Sony Ericsson has soon as May comes I'm getting a Samsung mobile instead.

Thankfully I'm not a big fan of Sony anyway but I just hope Microsoft don't decide to use Blue Ray on the 360 or the next gen console. I hope they invest into HVD because I have just read the info and yeah I see a Blue Ray beater right there :D.

But knowing my luck Microsoft will decide to use Blue Ray :(.

Haha nige, why you hate Sony so much, it's not as if Microsoft are brilliant themselves, they only entered the gaming sector to corner it and implement stupid pay for services that would have been given for free. As for giving up on Sony good luck, a lot more non Sony branded products have Sony internals or Sony developed technologies in them so maybe you should just go outside and sit on the grass. :D

And I hope you buy that Samsung phone as the screen is ....no better not spoil it.

Meh, I don't care atleast it doesn't have the words 'SONY' on it !

I prefer Microsoft over Sony anyday ok the bumboys (Sony fans!) get online play for free but just look at the superioity (:badspelling:) of Live compared to PSN ???????

My only worry is Microsoft will choose Blu Ray, then I will really get worried :(.

Other than that I will contine to buy dvd's and I will never touch the Blue Ray genre ever (unless Microsoft give in !!!)

Samsung was in the Blu-ray consortium iirc, usually Samsung knows their stuff, they don't pick quantity over quality those boys. And nige, Microsoft will do Blu-ray, in fact when they released info on the HD DVD drive they caused anger because they said that should it fail then they would not rule out Blu-ray.

As for your childish remarks about each systems online networks, Live is over 5 years old now and PSN is coming up for 2 at the end of this year. I think, in fact I would hope that Live would be head and shoulders above PSN in the case of features, but what's funny is read what your Xbox Live subscription is actually paying for, why Live is P2P and not a massive dedicated server centre where lag would not really be an issue is beyond me.

I like my 360 and I like Live, but when you see what Live actually entails and what we have to keep paying for especially in the price of games!! I mean why is the same 360 title £10-20 than the same PC version, both are DVD, both use the same game engines normally but still we get ripped off. I'm not excusing PS3 from this either, it irks me to hell seeing the same game on PC normally 40-50% the price of the equivalent 360/PS3 title.

PS Your Microsoft fantaticism is quite astounding.

Its just I wanted HD DVD to win and I believed even the last couple of months when Warner Bros decided to choose Blue Ray I still believed in HD DVD but as normal it doesn't go my way *sigh*.

I still don't understand it though I heard the porn industry choose HD DVD over Blue Ray and the porn industry is a huuuuuge business and alot of people said that the porn industry choosing HD DVD would only help HD DVD's potential and harm Blue Rays but it didn't. So what I heard anyway.

Another thing I can't help but think if Microsoft would have spent a little longer on the development for the 360 and included HD DVD as standard do you really think Blue Ray would have won compared to the PS3/360 owners ratio ??????

Me thinks not.

So once again it looks like Sony have gained the psychological advantage over Microsoft :(.

Why do I feel sad :( ????????

Porn industry, well let's not go there, and i don't wish to know your source :D . As for HD-DVD am i not right in thinking ASDA/Walmart have chosen to support blu-ray

Has far as I know only Walmart in the US has decided to choose to only stock Blue Rays but no doubt ASDA heirachy will get the message aswell and stop selling HD DVD over here.

Besides the guy I work with is a Sony fanboy and he put like 5 HD DVD's out on our section and the rest were Blue Rays, I mean we have loads of HD DVD's in the warehouse so it won't matter for my store because it seems that ASDA favour Sony anyway :(.

BTW I found out about the porn industry bit while looking for porn

:D .....................................................................................

........

Nah only joking I read it on a website a few months ago.

the porn industry statement was true

sony (being quite far up their own anal cavity) decided porn was wrong and refused to give blu ray distribution licenses to porn studios. this has been resolved and such studios are now supporting blu

Hmmm, well i don't think anyone can say they're suprised at Blu-Ray winning, but i don't really care who wins, i'm just happy that a lot of film companies will hopefully be putting PSP versions of the movies on the Blu-Ray discs too. And Nige, don't start up with all that Live nonsense, you're paying £40 a year for something that can't handle nearly as many players in a game as PSN and the only better thing is Gamerscore and Achievements and all that.

Btw, i like Saabs too. Have you been in the new Twin-Turbo 93 yet?

EDIT: My dads got a 1995 Saab 900SE Turbo (NG900 185bhp model) with 17" OZ Palladio's (the same rims on the Mustang Giugiaro Concept) and a BSR Induction Kit with a heat shield, but he's thinking of doing it up, and if he does he'll be getting an Evo boot spoiler, the DVS Trading bodykit, a 3" Jetex exhaust system, Elkparts Stage 3 ECU and Bailey re-circulation dump valve. All that should see around 300bhp.
