I agree with you that landscape images look mostly better when taken with a wideangle lens, and these cost a little. But still, with a cheap DSLR you can still get some nice photos!

It is a little like saying that you are a bad cooker just because of your cheap kitchen, random, but I guess you get the point.

I do need better gear though, my measly 1kd doesnt have the ISO capbility for static star shots

Yup that is correct, I also had the 1000D, now i upgraded to the 550D, and there is clearly a difference when taking star images!

It all depends, sunset depending on the clouds speed, 2-5 sec, and nightskies mostly right after the other, so 1 sec.

The It's something made me 'lol' haha!

 

Well, there are two methods to do this, one, exposure of over an hour, but this the harder method, the other one is imo easier:

You take like every 5 seconds a photo with an exposure of 30sec, after like 2 hours you stop and add all of the 200 frames into one photo, the movement of the stars trough the sky will create the startrails when you merge them all together.

but the star trail will be made of small stars, right?
