My top 5 would be:

 

1. Lamborghini Diablo SV

2. Lamborghini Miura SV

3. McLaren F1

4. Porsche Carrera GT

5. Ferrari F355 Spider

OK I won't join Diablos flaming of everyone who put Skylines and Zeds down as Supercars ... Oh also the Ferrari Cali Spider ISN'T a supercar

 

now to my list ... in no particular order

 

1. McLaren F1

2. Jaguar XJ220 ... you can't really ask for the 4WD V12 tho as that was an early concept

3. Ferrari F40

4. Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV

5. Bugatti Veyron

I think it's fair to include the new R35 GT-R as a supercar. Other than that, the only other Jap supercar is, as said, the Honda NSX

 

anyway my top 5 in not really any order:

Aston DB9

 

Ferrari F40

 

1996 Dodge Viper GTS

 

Lotus Esprit V8

 

Alfa 8C Competizione

 

This was really hard, finding my top 5 favourite supercars, considering my top 20 favourite cars consits mostly of sportscars...

 

And yes it is a coincidence that 4 out of the 5 above cars are red

When you see a japanese car you all think, Oh another ricer! (Error sound) WRONG! Ricer's are 4 cylinder cars with mahooosive body kits and have Catback systems, and CAI installed thinking that ooooh, i has cool car! And this just doesn't apply to Japanese cars! I read Max Power magazine, those Europeans rice Peugoet 106's and make them really ugly! You see a Skyline, Supra, or even S15 isn't a Ricer because they're quick and fast. [/rant]

 

By the looks of thing, neither do you :p. Your ricer definition is one that upset Civic owners came up with over the years, a ricer started out just being a japanese car. It was nicknamed a ricer because a lot of japanese food had rice. ALL japanese cars are ricers, so there is no such thing as a "riced out" 106 unless it has a japanese engine in it.

 

And Diablo, i understand what you mean, but i chose the Z-Tune as it has 550bhp and can do 206mph. AND was a production car. If that's not a supercar in your book then i don't know what is.

 

I also agree with RB in having the Mines R34 GTR as a supercar as that can do 190mph+ as well and, if you've ever actually been in one, you'll know it is frighteningly quick, so i think it's deserving of being a supercar.

 

However, i don't agree with ash16847's Nissan supercar list. I wouldn't class the 150hp 2.4 litre N/A engined 240SX as a supercar. It may be a supercar to you, but it isn't actually classed as a supercar.

 

And i don't agree with RB's decision to put a Z33 as a supercar. But RB is right, on every car forum, EVERYBODY bashes the JDM lover. There is a LOT of bashing we can do to you eurosnobs too but we don't. We could open all of your eyes and show you how most Supras on the road will beat Lambos, and how a lot of Evos and Scoobies out there will beat your precious Zondas round the track any day but we don't. That's when we get banned from most forums.

 

And Diablo, to anyone who knows anything about the JDM market, a Z-Tune would get much more attention. But oh well, another reason why i hate Top Gear and love Fifth Gear and Best Motoring, eh?

 

And chrisicus, Nismo is a tuning group but it's not like Mines and Top Secret. Nismo is just another branch of Nissan that do tuning parts for open sale. The R34 GTR says Nissan in the name but it's made entirely of Nismo parts.

Supercars aren't entirely to do with speed ... they're supposed to be expensive (relatively), limited numbers, very fast (for their time), not pratical as an every day driver.

 

In terms of Japanese supercars ... the ONLY ones I'd class as supercars are the NSX, and then the road going versions of the Toyota, Mazda and Nissan Le Mans cars. Both Japanese examples you put there are Tuner cars anyway ... in terms of Nismo and Mines ... I bet you I could tune a lot of cars to do 200mph if you wanted.

 

Zeds and Skylines are NOT super cars ... they're quick Coupes/Saloons.

 

A Ferrari F430 isn't a Supercar ... it's a sportscar

 

A Porsche 911 isn't a Supercar ... it's a sportscar

 

The problem is the definition of a Supercar changes to some extent with time ... and is VERY subjective

Drift I guess you didn't see the part where I said I know you can spend money on tuning any car and make it as fast as a Ferrari or a Lamborghini but that still doesn't make it a Supercar. The Miura is a supercar and can now be beaten by a Vauxhall Monaro for £40k, does that make the Monaro a supercar, no chance!

 

And noone belittles the JDM crowd apart from usually in reply to the JDM followers as you said, and of course if you like JDM you are going to look at the Z-tune rather than the F40, that's the way you're inclined but stick those 2 in a city center where there is all kinds of people and the F40 will be the one being looked at and having it's pictures taken more of.

 

Hybrid is right, the term is a strange and difficult one to give out but one things for sure it's easy to tell what doesn't deserve the title and unfortunately that is most JDM, hell even most US and European cars don't deserve it either.

 

Oh and RB, imo I would say the new Nissan GT-R is not a supercar, it's again a sportscar in the same bracket as the F430, Z06, Gallardo, 997 turbo etc...

 

@macd: The Evo FQ is not a factory model or it wasn't when it was originally released, it's heavily tuned by UK specialists Ralliart. As far as I know you can't just goto a Mitsubishi dealer and just order one.

Yeah, you're right, the supercar term is a hard one, but i was going by cars that are actually CLASSED as supercars, and the Z-Tune is.

 

And it's kind of like the Nismo tuned Z33s with the FQ-series Evos, they are tuned but yes, you can just go get one from the Mitsubishi dealership.

DEFINITION OF A SUPERCAR: I must be very fast, with sporting handling to match and it should be sleek and eye-catching.

they are the cars that when you see them you go "Wow" and your mouth stays open. They are the cars that epitomise how far you have come in life and bring a smile to your face and those around you.

 

all the cars i said do that. Japanese tuners have WHOOPED just about, if not all, every other kind of car. Lamborghini? Beat. Porsche? Beat. Viper? Beat. if it can do that, they ARE supercars

 

A highly tuned sportscar might put a smile on your face and might be faster than a Supercar but at the end of the day you will look at a Supercar that pulls up beside you more than anything. And if you were to park a Ferrari F40 and a Skyline Z-tune on the street together, no prizes for guessing what would have the biggest crowd

 

haha ye i know that, it'd be the Skyline. people see Ferrari's more than Skylines. the Skyline WOULD have the bigger crowd. (in the U.S. anyway)

That's just the US version of the 350GTs and that, they still have GTRs, they just need them imported. And the only Skyline for $150,000+ is the R34 GTR Z-Tune, none other.

Yeah your right, the GT500 is the only Mustang on the same level as the Z06 IMO.

I completely agree, and as people should know, modern supercars DO NOT have leafsprings, so therefore we can conclude the GT500, and therefore also the Z06 are NOT supercars :D
