I wonder if Diablo can give some insight on the amount of accounts suddenly becoming active, or having joined, because of this brilliance.

The Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula are probably my favourite area of space currently (have been for a while).

There is a tower of gas in the Eagle Nebula which is 9.5 light years long, it just boggles my mind when I try and comprehend the size of that.

I'm firmly in the camp that there must be something/someone else out there somewhere when you take in to account that the Eagle Nebula is one (extremely) tiny part of the universe in the scheme of things. That 'something' might be so far away that we'll never see it, but it's out there.

An interesting read here: 8.8 billion habitable Earth-size planets exist in Milky Way alone - NBC News

A habitable planet may only be 12 light years away. However, based on the speed of Apollo 11, it would take 291,666,667 years. And this sounds like a problem. Back to the drawing board until we can get those^ warp-drive engines going. I think if we but Japan's best scientists and mathematicians in a room with Steven Hawking for a year it'll get sorted. :hmmm:

    - The exoplanet (planet outside solar system) sofar considered the best one to harbour life is 23,6 lightyears away.
    - There are around 26 known planets within habitable zones around their star, and roughly under 50 lightyears away.
    - NASA is investigating warp-drive technology that, in theory, allows for faster than light travel. Prototypes are already built for laboratory testing to see if the theory can work, be it on a millionth scale.
    - NASA is researching and experimenting a form of cryostasis for crew on board a space ship. It would be a more extreme form of "therapeutic torpor" and would allow for ships with a small crew, low amounts of food, low and little comfort and more room for payload. First tests with 1 week ''sleeps'' have been promising, but it still requires some time and a lot of work to get it done.

Well Rassva did smart by choosing a rather base one, with a simple paint and unpainted bumpers/trim. That's cheaper to fix. But I on purpose went for something that looks just a tad less typical.

Another one for scale: UY Scuti, largest star in the universe. If placed on the position of the sun, Saturn would be under its surface...:ill: As for our own sun btw, commonly accepted way it will die says it will grow up to Mars' orbit.

We've only discovered such a small section of universe that we shouldn't even consider it an achievement, yet we keep finding new planets, new planetary systems and even systems with planets within the habitable zone of their stars. If there's ice, there's water, so the planets that actually can support life are there. I go the step further like many and say we can't be alone. We can't be the only living things, Earth can't be the only planet containing life. Also what is difficult for some is to understand life like we don't expect it, living in places where we don't expect it. Think of deap see stuff, living near all those thermal vents, with no light. It shows life can exist nearly everywhere.

I hope I'll witness the first humans on Mars and with all those studies and concepts out there under investigation it surely must happen within some decades.

Here's something to watch for y'all. Practically not possible, considering Roche limits, emission of radiation and what not, but kinda cool to imagine.
Watch them full-screen, the actual stuff it's about is good quality so ignore the low quality intro animations.

Those stats are incredible! Man that's a lot of ...well everything! And finally some concrete mention of Heists, I imagine we may get one before Christmas and who knows maybe we'll be disguising ourselves as Santa and his Elves to rob a mall or something. Bring on the winter snow again too, the map looks so good covered in it.

    1. Mythbusters
Hilarious, interesting, too popular. Should I think of ONE bad thing about them, it's that they indirectly spawned that stupid kidcrew of ''Crash Lab''.
    2. Scrapheap Challenge
The original series with the original setup, and with Robert Llewellyn as host.
    3. Fast 'n Loud
They're hilarious, and I can't get enough of shows doing cars.
    4. Fifth Gear
I've watched this show before I knew about Top Gear, as strange as it may sound. TG might be funnier but Fifth Gear just suits me better with their more serious approach.
    5. Chasing Classic Cars
Can I have his life? His contacts? His job?
    6. Wheeler Dealers
Any season, any setup, from the first series to the current Trading Up series.
    7. Road Wars UK
Ye... why do I like this so much?... To see people being caught because they had to get into trouble, to see how the police reacts on certain things. I like police chases too. Thanks to Electronic Arts, it was NFS3 that got me into police pursuits lol.
    8. Blik op de Weg
I think this translates to ''View on the Road'', it's a bit like Road Wars, but a little less action-packed. Also, it follows traffic police catching traffic offenders such as speeders or dangerous drivers. It's not like Road War's regular police who have to respond to stuff like robberies, burglaries, domestic violence or public disturbance.
    9. American Chopper
Yay, something not car related! Swearing, joking, fooling around, and building bikes. Yep
    10. The Dukes of Hazard
The car. The fun. The car. The action. The chases. The car. Rosco. J.D. Hogg.... The car?

Yep, a looooooooooooooot of cars in there. That's because I'm not counting in the shows I watched when I was very young, such as the old Cartoon Network, or even longer ago, stuff like Sesame Street. In addition, for Cartoon Network I'd simply nominate the whole channel minus maybe 5 shows. And ofcourse I can mention a lot more series, especially on Discovery Channel, like American Hot Rod, American Casino and the whole A Car/Plane/Helicopter Is (Re)Born with Mark Evans. When I was young and they had it on tv here I also watched Battle Bots. The US series, in which Grant Imahara (yep, him) participated, and Bill Nye was the one going a bit more indepth on some of the robots etc.

And on dutch tv... well... The only show I kinda like is called Miljoenenjacht, which means ''Hunt for the Millions''. Simply put, it involves 25 golden suitcases with money in them (a cardboard cheque) from €0,01 up to 5 million. Contestant has to pick one suitcase which he keeps with him. Then, he has to eliminate the remaining suitcases by picking them. They get opened up and the more low money amounts he eliminates, the more high money amounts are still in the game, and the higher the offer will be from the ''bank'' to buy that suitcase he kept safe. Contestant can choose to accept the offer, or continue eliminating more suitcases.

I know there might be a show like this in the UK for it too, but I don't know the name :p.

[headline]Philae Robot Probe Lands on Comet[/headline]
As much as a number of you won't care for this, this is actually a huge thing in human history as it's the first successful landing of a human made probe on a comet. A mission lasting more than 20 years came to its final moments earlier today when the Philae probe left its carrier craft Rosetta. At more than 300 million miles away where contacts take 28mins to reach us on Earth we heard the first contact after touchdown shortly around 1605 GMT/1705 CET.

Can't wait to see what we learn and see from this project.
