:confused:Ur age?....u sound like ur 32 or something....not 22...:D

well, from my point of view...primary school is the highlight of childhood....high school sucks (primarly because of puberty issues if ya ask me).... college is ok...last time u can be tolerated for acting like a child....but earning ur own money to feed ur family and urself....it's priceless....:cheeky:

A Levels are done at college though :S Do you mean A Levels = better than high-school?

Oh. Round here the schools do A Levels (and the IB), and colleges do other courses like BTECs. I'm still at school in the 6th form, not at a college. But I will agree that the 6th form is a lot better than lower years.

6th form sounds like crap to me, all the joys of sharing a building with the imbeciles you tried to get away from for 5 years and none of the experiences of meeting great new people.

and less hate for the BTECs please, there's more skill in it that A levels in my opinion (I did A levels last year) and although the work load is seemingly less on vocational courses i'm 10 times as proficient in my area than A level equivalents.

and the better for jobs is bollocks, unless you go into higher ed then you're going to be employed for your specialised practical knowledge than theoretical knowledge.

and going into higher ed is just as easy anyway, as UCAS goes A levels and BTECs are pretty much point for point, at a recent UCAS showing in the local uni i found that pretty much every uni will accept you with a two distinctions and a merit.

^ OK...calm down...

And you will be more proficient at 'your area' with BTECs or other, because they are much more focused on individual things, leaving less room for movement away from this area.

Further education is the same due to the way that UCAS works yeah. Simplify it to a points system - but some unis websites still say under 'Entry Offers' AAB (or whatever) rather than a mix of P, M or Ds.

And as for jobs - all the bosses did A Levels, before the idea of the other qualifications existed, so sometimes may be more inclined to go towards the A Level student. Its not 'politically correct', but they just don't understand what a BTEC means compared to A Levels.

As for this A levels are better than B-tecs and all that rubbish. A levels are more varied you have about 4 or 5 then drop your "weaker subject" in the last year. If you ask me you end up doing a couple of subjects to make up your time table and then drop one, which is a waste of time. Then your still probably doing one that will have nothing to do with your final career path.

B-tecs normally count for 3-4 a levels but are normally done at technical colleges (shar done a very high level business coarse and done very well) and if your going for uni make no bit of difference tbh.

Back in the real world all the above means sod all if you get a levels and b tecs and go uni your there until your my age or even longer ). At the end of it you come out with a loan that will cost a bomb to pay off and it will be a hindrance to you.

I know people who have been uni and have come out to do a job that pays the same as a full time shop assistant and they have a student loan to pay off. Others have just done a levels/btecs and still earn about the same. Its great as all these courses help you to eventually progress up the ladder or get the job in the first place but only when you have got the experience. So you waste all that time to get the same wage as if you never bothered and still have to brown nose your way up.

Where as if you get a trade, while everyone is at Uni your earning and getting up the ladder and can be on extremely good money especially for your age once you get to the last year of your apprenticeship. No loans to pay back and takes half the time. Ok you could earn a dam site more if you spend 5 years at uni and college then work your way up for a few years after but if you see some of the hours these top jobs and the stress levels they entail you wouldn't even want to bother. And also by that time (especially with the like of an architect taking till I was 27 if I chose it) I could actually have enough experience to have my own company or even have my own membership to trade councils (like the NICEIC for electricians) and earn money in a full time job and do private work.

So its swings and roundabouts to what you want to do but I would always advise a trade over 6th form and Uni. Its not all foam parties and getting drunk if you want to succeed. Just make sure whatever you have your heart set on doing you do it as passion for your job makes it more enjoyable than one you go after the money for (I know that contradicts what I've said a bit) but enjoying a job counts alot more as long as the books balance, Sparking wasn't my first choice but it was a happy medium of the careers I wanted.

Anyways didn't this start of about the difference of A Levels and BTECS??? :p (and I've just woken up from an early evening nap so sorry if it don't make sense)

:confused:Ur age?....u sound like ur 32 or something....not 22...:D

I know I've always acted older than I am and strangely people think I'm 4-5years older than I am :p

For us, all the cocks went to the City's College to do BTECs and A Levels or they went into work. We went to do A Levels in our local Sixth Form College and don't have any contact with the imbeciles, so it all depends on your area ;) Also, the Sixth Form College has shared students from six main High Schools and 80% at the beginning of year 12 were hard workers and the other 20% just couldn't be bothered to turn up. They dropped out at the end of the year, so we have a nice "community" without all the crap :)

Sounds very similar to down here, best thing about college is getting rid of (most) of the idiots.

Nice one Mb, will be brilliant, i've still got 5 weeks till the end of college then uni :)

down here we have one college (yale college) but it's split into two, the main bit deals with the more academic subjects, (not specifically the academic route of teaching though) such as maths, science, english, DT, music, sports sciences, whatever, most BTECs at grove road (the bit i'm in) are courses that are lightly covered by A level equivalents (there's a AS music tech, and BTEC music tech) and as i said i'm more proficient than the academics in music tech (able to fully mic up a recording session with a suitable array of mics

I think i get what you mean about the idiots, alot of them went to the other bit of the college where they deal with mechnics and electrical installation etc. but AFAIK most the morons drop out of there anyway when child support costs get too high... the courses are still damn hard though, one of my best friends does electrical installation and the calculations he has to do are ridiculously mind boggling.

but anyway, long and short of it...

a proper 6th form? staying in the same building i had been trying to leave for 5 years would never happen, the friends ive made and the experiences ive had thanks to being able to put the crappest years of my life away have made me the happiest person i've ever been.
