Bored with TDU2 already. Why?

Personally, the reason why the game got boring is the physics/handling. There is no sense of speed and all of the cars feel the same. Also, I found accelerating to be more of a chore rather than a pleasure and that when I had to brake, it wouldn't gently slow down (even when I apply the smallest amount of braking), it would brake weirdly and feels unnatural.

This is all while driving in the bumber view. I find the Cockpit unusable because of the head turning, No indicators, tint in the windshield (I find this very funny since because you have to be a complete moron to tint your front windshield in real life and they have it in here), and most importantly-the lack of an adjustable seat. It really takes a lot of fun out. Those pretty much make the cockpit useless thus making the game pretty boring for me.

Then there's the championships which weren't too hard nor too difficult. The fact that the NPCs talking/repetition/lack of excitement made me have to force myself to do the races rather than enjoying it myself. Finally, the first thing I said when I finished the last cup on Hawaii was ,"What do I do now?" After you finish the championships, other than exploring, theres really not much to do especially with all of the online issues.

Sorry if this seemed like a complaint list, but those are what's making me bored with this game.

-Physics

The physics themsevles aren't horrific, just could be better with some minor tweeks. The lack of counter-steer is my main problem. Once you lose control, don't even bother trying to get it back. The other problem I have is the sense of speed. You don't really get the feel that you are going fast until you're at about 130mph. Other than that, the driving itself isn't really that bad.

-Connectivity

The game would be infinitely more fun if I could connect to my friends. But alas, I cannot. Nor can anyone else for that matter. When you finally manage to make it into the same server, you are booted out within 5-10 minutes. Half the fun I had in TDU1 was just being in the same server with my friends, sometimes not even driving.

-Damage

Nice feature, bad execution. I could spend days counting the number of times I have been rammed by a Veyron... and still not have finished. The fix for this is extremely simple really. The pausing system for TDU1 was excellent in that, in addition to becoming transparent, your vehicle also stopped in its tracks. Now, when you push pause attemmpting to avoid being rammed, you easily avoid the ramming, but coast into the closest obstruction, which causes just as much damage to your vehicle as a ramming would. Fix the pausing system... problem sloved.

-Car list

It's respectible to an extent, but gets boring easily. There are many cars on there that I quite enjoy. But many are lacking that, not only I would like, but the entire community would appreciate. Lamborghini, Corvette, and Maserati, just to name a few. The DLC will be quite good I expect, but I feel like we shouldn't have to pay for the most basic cars found in most racing games. That being said, with Atari's financial situation, I can understand why we must.

-General

The game in general is quite good, but not four-years-in-development-good. tWm said it best: Had this game come out in 2008, it would be fantastic and highly impressive. It is now 2011, far too long from the original TDU1 for us to be impressed with the final product that we were given. It can be fixed, however. Some minor changes could be all it takes to improve the gaming experience dramatically.

I agree with you although not sure you've given physics enough bashing:P Playing with a wheel, it is quite a challenge. Steering brakes and the clutch have no sense that is the biggest problem with it.

Also I'm quite sad to see this game was obviously built in really hard conditions. When you look at the games released these days , technically tdu2 is nowhere near. Shoddy graphics, lots of bugs, many things haven't been thought through. However I do not think this game was developed in 4 years. I believe atari was going through financial issues , and most of the game is made of recycled materials. So I believe it took a bit less than that , nevertheless not an excuse when you pay £30.

How to make it better and less boring? Simple: gimme TDU1's Hardcore mode so I can DRIFT, then we'll talk. Do we really need anything else? I could have dealt with all the face buchery, horrible acting/uber-gay voices, the boring SP campaign, the millions of pre-order exclusives and tiny car list and the genuine feeling of a game that, like GT5, feels kinda old in some ways, if only I would have been given the ability to enjoy driving.

Let's face it, the most boring part of this game is the driving. It's uneventful and stiff. No joy in driving any of the cars at all (except offroad which is kinda fun). It's just frustrating 'cause you know you want to throw the back of that mustang around in the next corner and you know that you either end up backwards or off the road. After trying for litteraly hours to change the settings of the pad and different cars, I gave up.

Sold my game 2 weeks ago, unless I see that something is being done for the handling, I won't pick it back up...

I can understand your frustration, I think we all have it well with few exceptions. I'm not sure what Atari was thinking. Obviously they wanted to go mainstream and do a game for the consoles meaning more cash perhaps. Though I can't really work out what was wrong with tdu1's system. You had an arcade and an hardcore mode in the same game. It works brilliant , maybe it'll be a dlc , it's making me think..

Me neither. I mean they knew why we loved the first game and what we wanted to see added to it. What they basically did was add some of the stuff that we requested (changing weather, day/night cycle and...) and remove what made the first game such a joy to play around with. Wut

Oh the first was frustrating too, mainly the online part where you'd roam around for up to 30mins waiting for your mate to appear, but even the moon gravity was actually fun when you'd try to find the biggest jumps on the map to try and fly as far as possible (good memories there ). But since it was the first game ever to give us this sandbox online gameplay, you didn't care at all for all its shortcomings. This is however not the case for the second one. I also face the issue of having a difficult time to find really good games to play lately (this is just my own perspective on gaming). I feel like there's always such a hype made around every single game only to find out it's just the same stuff we've already seen and sadly TDU2 doesn't escape that fact, for me at least.

HC was a DLC on consoles for TDU1, however I suspect it was just a feature that was already built in and activated by downloading the DLC (since it was unlockable for free on the PC once you'd finish the SP races). I don't think the current handling can be "patched", at least, I've never seen a game that had this done to it...

If a game has been built with updates in mind then they can change a lot. Look at Criterion and Burnout Paradise for example. Also I do believe you are right about the time for this game, I don't think it's been 4 years, maybe 2.5-3 years.

It takes like more than 3 seconds to get from 0-60

First you don't state what car you are talking about. Second make it a bit more clear, what's wrong the acceleration times on all cars or a certain car ? You need to expand on what you are saying for people to understand it more clear.

And I hope ATARI/Eden really does read this thread...

I don't enjoy driving in TDU2 for these reasons mainly:

1. Too much grip/downforce to drift/slide.

2. Sense of speed isn't great - especially when offroad. (Doing 120kph offroad should feel pretty fast, but it's more of a trundle).

3. Lack of force-feedback - big downer at.

4. Inability to log in for the past few days at various times of the day.

5. Engine sounds.

Only reason i do not enjoy TDU2 is the connectivity. The instant challenge routes should also be edited according to what car you drive.

Physics are awesome, albeit arcadey. Enginesounds sucks for some cars, but are awesome for other, evens out. FFB i cant comment on, im not using it.

OK I have one..

The map is used to teleport say 95% of times, so the GO TO-target click should be separate and quick.

And so the GPS and bookmark functions (that both didn't get the many user-suggested functions that would have given a menu more meaning) in the misplaced pop-up-menu SHOULD have been accessed via other means (perhaps even each separate).

The misplaced menu mainly just adds:

*Wasted time

*Mouse-over-mistakes (accidentally placed GPS & bookmarks much lately?;)

And the bad parts from Tdu1-map system wasn't fixed either.

Poor control, Slow scroll, and the slow "confirm scrolling" before zoom. (At least Tdu1 took only 1 click).

Yes the little that was kept or added in the game is mostly fouled up or dated, so yeah.. I think you can understand why I was bored and very disappointed of this game even before release.

I'm not bored with it yet, I've just been busy, but heres a few suggestions..

Physics:

Their alright, but could use some improvement. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing TDU1's return.

Car List:

Its actually really good, but its also lacking in some areas. No Lamborghinis(I know...) One Corvette, no Maseratis, not a lot of classics, off roaders, etc.

Money Making:

Its well known that after you beat all the championships and cups, its almost impossible to keep making money, (besides the Casino but that gets boring quick) I actually enjoyed doing the infamous 180 MPH in traffic speed race in TDU1, that way I could earn enough money to buy more cars with next to no effort, it may sound silly, but since I had already beaten the game and all I did was cruise and race online, that race was the best thing. It honestly kept me entertained for 3 years because I could beat it easily so I could get more cars to cruise in!

Sticker Shop:

I love the sticker shop, but since there isn't an "undo" option, it keeps me from attempting big sticker liveries for my cars.

Photo Mode:

Seems kind of rushed, I loved TDU1's, and the lack of being able to use a wheel and controller simultaneously(PS3) much like GT5 lets you do, keeps me from doing a lot of photo mode sessions.

Gonna throw my 2c in, though each of these have been mentioned before.

First up is money. This is the biggest flaw imo. How in the name of God am I supposed to get 1,5 millions to buy 1 car after spending everything after doing all the championships? Then let's think about the achievement/trophy "God of cars". Own every purchasable car.

...

Just how am I supposed to make millions after millions to get all of the cars, there are so many ones that cost over a million and it's almost impossible, I guess the only way would be the casino but I don't own it and that is definitely a problem lol.

Photomode. Lack of real importing system like in most modern racers makes the photomode pretty much useless unless you wanna spend some time importing your pics from the HDD. It's also missing the "focal lenght" option that is pretty important if you wanna take good pictures. For example, the great photomode drags me back to NFS Hot Pursuit again and again and atm I have over 300 photos on my laptop. Yes, I am a photomode addict

Buggy online. I know (at least some of) this is gonna get fixed when (if) the patch comes out but it's really annoying that when every single one of your friends is playing lol of duty and when you finally get one to play TDU2 with you, he quits soon because the servers aren't working properly >_>
