Oh I wish :D But honestly, the game is already at a state I have not expected to achive (so quick). Not saying it's insanely good for the amount of time - real Unreal devs will laugh at me really hard - but as I started in like, september or so, with absolutely 0 knowledge except how do I put in a cube into the scene, I think it's quite something.

Good point! Haven't actually thought about that. I just know that here in Berlin and in the county Brandenburg which is around the town, the elevation is almost flat. Half of germany, mostly the nothern part is flat as paper, so I haven't thought about mountains. But as it's a game, at the end of the day, who will stop me from putting in a piece of land which is geographicaly totally wrong :D

No problem, I might hit you and Speeder up in future when I decide to start actual coding. Sooner or later the day will come where I will need that, and I am scared of that day to be honest. I tried some thing in JS, back when I looked around in Unity, (a year ago? two?), but after two weeks I still couldn't code a single line. Oh well. :D Tell me the secret of learning code

Thanks! Yeah I (unfortunately) care a lot about correct details, memories about my modding schedule for TDU, huh? :D
Jokes aside, I think a game with bad details is a bad game. You can only imagine how much time I spent on this M3 alone. The fact, that I've made the bulbs in the indicators glow in 3DS Max and the reflector beneath it in chrome, just to render it out and use it as a mask for correct light distribution in the reflector is just one example of how crazy I am about such little details. Also a good friend of mine has an E46 M3, and oh boy, I should have not shown him the model. :D He pointed out a dozen of wrong details just by looking at three screenshots. Have you realized the rims are wrong? That those are the 1M / M3 E92 GTS wheels, and not the ones from the M3 E46 CSL? No? Well, I didn't know the difference either, but there is. Still need to fix it.

The TDU dummy car seemed to be the perfect.. well.. Dummy car for me to test things. I mean, not that I can hide my roots anyway. I just thought a "refresh" of the model, with all the features working the actual TDU have missed, that would be perfect.

I researched a week before I started developing what cool features my dream game should have. Turns out those are the exact features some friends of mine, which never played TDU, also wanted in a car game. I've added even more, actually. And it's still counting. I will give my best not to loose track of it.

About the wrap thing, yeah, I mean, it's basically nothing different than a paint shop. I still need to figure out how (and most importantly IF!) I will make a sticker shop into the game. Like TDU2 had, eventhough I don't know if it wouldn't be overkill. I think custom vinyls aren't really a thing in the modern car world anymore. But as it's still a room for creativity, I need to make my mind about that in the future.

Still need to figure out how exactly I will make it work. But I will make sure that it will work, hopefully exactly like I described.

Thanks :) I'm gonna keep you updated as soon as I have something.

PS: Nothing really exciting happened today. Just added an RPM limiter and fixed the 3D model. Still need to make wipers and dirt work on the car. Ugh.

EDIT: Oh, and I now imported a LOD mesh to the M3. It's a new task in the pipeline. That means, LOD3 for all the Forza models out there. I will make cars below 50k polys not get any LOD meshes, to save me some time, and for all the Forza models there are LODs anyway. Custom made bodykits won't be scaled either. Hope this won't cause too many issues and framedrops later on.
The only thing which makes me worry about is the dirt map for ever car.. AND for their LODs. Fml.

Germany would be an interesting area, especially if you were able to include something inspired of the Black Forest mountain roads in addition to Berlin. I've played some of the Cobra 11 'Crash Time' car games on Steam and enjoyed those.

Haha how did I miss that!

Party? o_O There is a decent enough importer provided by Xenforo along with some handy and helpful tools too. Members of the community have also created some really nice add ons that help with other additional conversions that might be wanted, some of whom have gone on to become a part of the main company itself. The hardest part of it all was actually locating the info on how to use it all. A lot of searching and my typical method of trial and error is getting me there... slowly but surely.

Haha, main reason I went for the 6 over the 7 is the 6 still has the headphone jack and I use my headphones all the time and didn't want to have to get an extra adapter to use them, plus the 6 was cheaper. I am loving it so far, definitely an upgrade over the 4S!

    The project
I don't plan building a AAA-scaled game nor a real open-world like Forza Horizon 3 or The Crew (with a 0$ budget and a one-man sized team this isn't realistic at all).
Instead, the whole idea is to create an open-world racing game with high quality features (physics, graphics, multiplayer, gameplay, ...) and as much content as possible. I might receive help for asset creation (or might even end up setting up a Kickstarter to get a budget to hire freelance artists); I just don't know yet, this isn't my top priority right now. The most important part of the project is modding: everything is moddable. By everything I mean: graphics (models, textures, materials, ...), physics (per vehicle or per 'world'), audio, game modes, ...* The mods will either be applied on the server side or on the client side (with more or less restrictions depending on the kind of mod).

*: some stuff aren't implemented yet so I can't guarantee everything will be part of the final product

    The game

    Gameplay

One word: MULTIPLAYER. To put it short, there won't be any solo/offline activities (except offline free-roam). The project is still at an early stage so I can't really talk about the game modes without being a Peter Molyneux copycat (no offence to him). You should expect free roam, races, cat and mouse, car ball, CTF, user-made mods, ... I'd also like to add some aspect of TDU1 (the whole real estate thingy, car dealers, road discovery, ...). But again, I'll come back to these later.

    Physics

I guess it's a matter of taste, but I think a MMO racing game should aim for semi-realistic/arcade physics. The current state of the physics is closer to arcade than simulation (since a lot of components are missing) but in the end it should be close to semi-realism.

    Graphics

Nothing too out of the ordinary here, this is basically what you may find in any other game. Special attention will be paid to the car paint. As you can see in the screenshots below, there is still a lot of work to do.

    Network

Another huge part of the project. Right now, the game can handle up to 24 players in the same session (with each player having a ping <100ms), using exclusively a client-server infrastructure. This should easily be upgradable considering how basic the implementation is right now (no delta compression, lame physics prediction, ...). Notice that game lobbies won't handle as many people as free-roam.

    Technical Stuff
The engine is written in C++ (using C++11standard), scripts in Python and Batch, physics uses Bullet Physics; it supports Direct3D11 as graphics API. The renderer uses Forward Plus Shading, supports point/spot lights and a limited amount of area lights. The render pipeline is PBR (well as much as I can understand what PBR really mean) and uses a dynamic modular architecture (to make it short: it uses less memory and can easily be extended without rewriting a lot of code).

Everything about Forza makes players want to drive as fast as possible. It's just not as fun to cruise around slowly similar to what TDU1 enabled. All of those subtle touches that they, perhaps by accident, got right enough.

    Congrats on the wedding.

I'm off to Norway (Bergen) in March for a short break, always wanted to go to Norway as I'm not particularly fussed about warm weather and sun and the place is just so picturesque pretty much everywhere you go. Plan to look at Bergen itself, some WW2 artillery placements that the Germans put up and naturally a fjord or two. First holiday I've had outside of the U.K. since 2010, so it's long overdue.

I also potentially have a job interview on Thursday to do something completely different to the office work I've been doing the last eight years (kind of bored of it so GG to two years in college studying pretty much everything to do with computers). Flexible hours so I can commute outside of rush hour, half days on a Friday, no telephones and most importantly for me now that I really want to move out there's a fairly decent pay increase. Only downside is it's a few extra miles each way on my already 25 mile (each way) commute, but I may be able to car share one or two days a week, we'll have to see.

If the above all pans out nicely then I may finally be getting my own home which is something I've wanted for a few years now.

No actual new year's resolutions though :)
