Game Modes

What game modes would you like to see added to TDU2 either on release or as DLC? i.e. things like Cops v Robbers, etc. Feel free to invent your own game mode and give a description of how it works, but try to stay on topic.

I once setup an event in TDU which was similar but more of a hunt. We all grabbed Ford Mustangs (Group F) and went into the city on the east coast (near Lanikai, near the Saleen dealer). The idea was that we setup a boundary around that city that we had to remain in, and we would all turn off our HUD and GPS. One person would start off as the hunter, the rest of us would get a head start and would have to drive around like traffic cars, trying to avoid him.

If the hunter spots one of the other players, he beeps and gives chase. If caught, the person joins him as a hunter, and they both try to get the remaining drivers, until the last one is captured.

It sounds simple, but it does get your heart rate up a little bit when you don't know if the Mustang in the distance is a hunter or not, and you have no idea who you might see when you get to the next intersection.

Unfortunately (for me) we had connection issues at the time, so I couldn't even see what the other guys were typing to each other. I managed to be the last one caught though, so that was alright.

In any game mode where we do chases in TDU1, we always use the 'NFS Host Pursuit III' rules of whether you are deemed 'caught' or not. If you are doing <120kph for more than 2 seconds with a police right near you, or you hit the reset button in the presence of the chaser, you are deemed to be caught. The chaser will honk their horn to tell you that you are busted.

In TDU2, the event hoster could draw the boundary on the map (similar to how you create checkpoints on the map in the Editor). All cars would be the same, but the hunters would have a police car livery. You could force drivers to use the cockpit view for added realism, and you could force the HUD off. You could also restrict who can type message to who in the game, and there could be an option to get notified when someone is caught (or you could leave it off for added suspense). As an added bonus, you could watch a replay of the highlights once the round is over so that you could upload it to YouTube.

I've hosted more 'event' cruises than normal ones, so I'll post more things later on. Feel free to add to the discussion.

That sounds like it's worth trying. A simple game like that could be really good and its sort of like the games in the "The Playground" on FM3.

I just hope that there's only one sort of game like that that's actually in the game because the game shouldn't really be centered on those kind of fun and games. ;)

I don't think it would be possible from the start as this would require more cars, but Mercedes-Benz World Racing had some nice racetypes. These were some sort of comparism races between one old car and one new car, preferably one being the successor of the other. One of these races got you racing a 300SL with a headstart against a modern SL (R230) and you had to win ofcourse. As said though this would require some cars to be present in several generations, like an old and new 911, or a Corvette C3 against a C6, so maybe the DLC's can provide some variety.

Other than this, I can't really think of other races and I also don't think they would suit TDU2 without pulling it too far to another genre/racingclass. Hot Pursuit would be nice, but that involves the player getting policecars and those could only be used/selected when doing a specific pursuit race.

Perhaps they could do prototype testing. I don't know if this would be good enough on the racingtrack(s?) or that it would require a specific testcenter/skidpad, but that way you could get a message brand X has built a concept and it needs to be tested. You test it by reaching the objectives, such as reaching specific speeds or G's, and when you complete the race, either you get the car straight away as a thank-you or ''the engineers will fix the last bits'' and give you the car later on.

Cops and Robbers does sound pretty good!

"hide and seek" mode also seems quite squiffy, too! I remember the old days on GTA IV with Pressurised, TSS, Tool, Reaper and I. Used to confine it to, for example, around the Alderney Prison and we used to try and find eachother (Although we were in teams, not freelance)

Something like that would be great. Although, basically, there's not much point in implementing it, as there's not much to implement. Only thing really is teams and whether they've been caught or not (Which the players can do themselves without much hassle)

The Hide and seek sounds really good, as does cops and robbers, the hide and seek one would need a system implemented to force the camera view and hud and other game rules.

One off the top of my head is kind of like GTA IV again, Vehicle escort missions, where the VIP has to drive a very precious and prized vehicle from one destination to another, like the vehicle delivery missions except there are many different routes to take, the VIP has a team of defenders who try to fend off the attackers trying to steal the car.

Damage done to the VIP car will be deducted from the end points of team that damages it, the people trying to steal the car have to stop it like the police would, causing as little damage as possible (they are stealing to resell not crush!) - A bonus is given to the team that wins, with the bonus getting bigger if the car is in good condition. VIP car would be a lower category vehicle than the defenders and attackers cars.

Vehicle damage should disable the cars in this game mode though to make the playability of the game a bit more entertaining, so i doubt they would consider it.

Cops and robbers could be fun, but I have a feeling they may already have it planned due to them keeping quiet about the whole police thing.

I think they did. They said the police would come back, and they had a little surprise for hów they would return. Other than a renewed system of how they will monitor you, I can only think of the possibility for us to play as police.

The Tag Game I

The rules:

One player get's chosen as the "tag-car".

He must try to hit any of the other participants in the tag-game.

When he hits a car, that car becomes the new and only "tag-car".

That car also gets a "mark".

The new "tag-car" will now do the same.

When the cars get to many "marks" and have passed the games chosen limit, he is out.

This goes on until there are only one participant left.

The last car wins.

The entrance fee / Winner prize:

It should cost every player to enter the race. Eather a sum of money or the car that you enter the "game" with.

The winner wins all the money or all the cars.

The Tag Game II

The rules:

One player get's chosen as the "tag-car".

He must try to hit any of the other participants in the tag-game.

When he hits a car, that car becomes the new "tag-car", along with the first "tag-car".

Now there are two "tag-cars" trying to hit any of the other participant.

It continues like that until there are one participant left.

The last car wins.

The entrance fee / Winner prize:

It should cost every player to enter the race. Eather a sum of money or the car that you enter the "game" with.

The winner wins all the money or all the cars.

Hehe, tag is more fun with more people, and it's pretty hard when you're not on the roads as you get more lag, and the dust trails make it hard to get out of sight, and there's not much grip on the gravel in H mode.

There's the old thread for it anyway:

Shame I didn't film more of my escapades, but I can tell you about them:

Race Around the Island

MP Race Tournament

Canonball Race (list of points to race to was here).

Scavanger Hunt

NFS III Style Hot Pursuit Race

"Where's that suburb" + "Gumball Rally" + "Cops n Robbers"

Gumball Rally 2.0

Hide 'n' Seek - Hunter game

Ryzza's Rental Race

'Versus' Cruise

Dakar Rally

TDU Tag (as above)

I also once made a car picker tool for cruises where cars are assigned randomly

The idea of tag is cool! How about 'chain tag'

Chain Tag

2 cars start of as taggers. They are connected by a rope and have to stay together.

Once someone is caught they become attached to the 2 taggers to make a 3.

Once another person is caught, the group of 4 splits into 2 groups of 2, where they can either work together and corner a player, or work independently.

This might be difficult to implement physics-wise, but would be cool.

Hunter from Midtown Madness 3! I loved that game so much and if they made that be the game mode involving cops that would be awesome!

In case u don't know what Hunter was it involved one person randomly being chosen as the cop car and who ever they tagged became a cop as well. It was basically Last Man Standing and it was fun as hell!

I think something like drag races in the NFS Series were fun. For those who don't know what it is, all you do is accelerate and shift at the precise RPM. The car steers for you. However, if you want to change lanes, you just tap the arrow keys left or right. It would be fun if this would be implemented in the SUV's in an uphill climb. If you shift too early, you might stall and roll down the mountain. If you shift to late, you might blow your engine.
