Too bad the new Box/Cay sound like STi's due to the cylinder-less engines.

 

The S models with the sports exhausts might not sound as good as they once did but they're not exactly bad sounding cars either.

 

Comparing the TTRS with the Cayman is a bit like comparing a Jagerbomb to a nice glass of fine wine, they ultimately have the same purpose but go about it in very different ways trying to attract different types of customers.

 

If I could get the TTRS Coupé without the rear spoiler, in that nice blue-greyish colour which looks stunning in person, with different wheels then yeah sure.

2/10 supposed road conversions of P1 GTR have been spotted. Some UK company is doing this, at 400K for just the conversion to get it street legal. I guess the most difficult work would be in the engine/exhaust area for a racecar, a type approval for such a limited-run vehicle usually has [Exemption] written all over it.

According to Instagram user "supremeliit", out of the 45 P1 GTRs, only 10 of them are being converted for the road by Hampshire-based motorsport specialist Lanzante. The transformation allegedly costs $400,000 and only three will have U.S. VIN numbers. Besides the one seen in Monaco, another car is in Japan and apparently there’s one in Dubai as well. The remaining four cars (including this one) are for Europe.

Why are some cars allowed (or not allowed, but get away with...) having the front plate flat, on the front splitter but others don't? The splitter on this thing is huge and has space for it to be flat and it'd look so much better. But i guess if it's not 100% legal, those paying 400k for the conversion wouldn't be happy if they got stopped/fined.

 

Now these GTRs are road legal I can't help but feel the P1 feels more special to me than the other 2 of the trinity now, or are there plans for road legal extreme versions of them still in the pipeline?

RML is doing the same with the Vulcan, and considering what happened to the FXX (I thought Edo Competition converted several Enzo's to FXX for road use) I bet the same will happen sooner or later with the FerrariTheFerrariTheFerrari.

 

Porsche might be the odd one imo. The 918 exists as racecar-ish RSR Concept but its power output is around 100 kW less and really the only difference are the sidepipes and the fact the RSR has a fixed roof, plus that SimCity 3000 fusion plant in the passenger footwell. The fixed wing on it does look fancy though. And if the RSR is no option, Porsche has nothing else other than having somebody convert a 919 Hybrid :lol:

Comes in only three colors just like the original GTI, 6-speed manual, three doors, with something that looks like a half cage (no rear seats), retuned suspension & brakes, more power, less weight, and in 400 examples.

I think i'd rather have the Leon *shrug*

 

This car would without a doubt not pass the infamous JC Kristin Scott Thomas test, and whilst I know that people should not always agree with him/that rule/it/whatever for me it does kind of work. A half cage? This is a hot hatch not a touring car, although I can forgive it slightly due to its limited run.

Maybe the cage & rear seat delete are optional (the cage is optional on the GT3 Porsches) - no price lists yet. I don't want the cage either, but eh, they're not the first ones to do this, and there's still the regular Clubsport version. ;)

 

Cannot wait for comparison tests with the other hardcore HH, the Megane Trophy R.

@Mike: they will do a half-arsed job on this. They did with the Citan, and from the looks of it only the light units and grille will be different on this vehicle, and that stupid tablet seems to show up in this thing as well.

 

There it is, the Merc truck. Let's wait for the AMG version.

Also Moers said there won't be an AMG version, only an AMG line (and that means a proper purely esthetical line, not what Merc now tries to sell as AMG 43's).

That's definitely a good thing, it means they won't be releasing (another) AMG vehicle just to try and get those high-end sales when the chassis and underpinnings for the car just weren't designed with that intention.

 

AMG Line makes sense, why would someone be buying this when there are proven vehicles on sale that will most likely do a better job? I can't imagine this is going to be cheaper than a Hilux. People will be buying this for the Merc badge, the nice LED Bi-Xenon headlights and the faux-leather interior.

They are making this for the same reason Bentley made an SUV: there is no [vehicle type] out there yet for more than [insert extreme price tag] (yes, bentley said this, I can look it up for you). Merc thinks they can build a premium pick-up truck, they said they know absolutely for sure the market is asking for an expensive pick-up truck as prestige product. It's also the reason why they won't sell it in the USA: they know it will be too expensive and can't battle the american trucks.

How much of the truck is Nissan R&D etc? For a large company it'd be a bit embarrassing if they've done a half arsed job on it.

 

It's said to have a different-style exterior and interior, with its own engines (MB uses Nissan-Renault engines already, and vice versa, though). The rest seems to be the same as the Nissan NP300 Navara.

 

It won't be as a bad as the Citan thing, which is basically a rebadged Renault Kangoo. Hopefully. :burp:

They're not gonna compete with the American trucks because the "GLT" is too small. I'd go as far as to say it will be something in between the Vito and V-Klasse in terms of luxury, build quality and overall premium-ness (is this a word?). Maybe two versions are in the works - cheaper and "premium" - just like the vans. Dunno.

Evidently that means Mercedes-Benz won’t build a pickup like this, or this, or this. As Mornhinweg correctly points out: “. . . the Big Three—Ford, GM, and Ram—already own about 90 percent of that market . . . newcomers like us would invariably fight an arduous uphill battle.”

The Mercedes Pick-up will sell like hot cakes.

 

The Citan as soon it came out in portugal quite a few were already on the road just because it's a Mercedes so it was already better then a renault for some people regardless it being the same, so the Pick up will maybe sell there since it will be better than having a Hilux because it's a Mercedes.
