It's incredible how tough these cars are. 100mph crash and he managed to get back to the pits and within a few minutes he was back out racing again!

If an F1 car goes over a little bump it stops working. :hmmm:

Although the safety car system seems a bit terrible putting it politely. I mean, green and yellow flags at the same time, that's just confusing.

The safety car system, the automated slow zone bit anyway, is new this year so I don't think they've ironed out the kinks too much, though yeah it's got some things needing fixing.

So as we come up to the 1/4 point of the race, with 18 hours to go, this is what the race is looking like:

LMP1:

1. #9 Audi

2. #17 Porsche - though it's just pitted, was leading before the scheduled pit.

3. #7 Audi

4. #19 Porsche

Audi seem to have the upper hand, the #17 porsche is giving them their biggest challenge and has been leading for most of it, however the #9 Audi has repeatedly set the fastest laps and has been biting on the #17's arse for a lot of it too.

LMP2:

1. #47 KCMG

2. #46 Oreca Thriet

3. #36 Alpine

4. #48 Murphy

Quite a boring class imo, the #47 hasn't been challenged much.

GTE Pro:

1. #99 Aston

2. #64 Corvette

3. #97 Aston

3. #91 Manthey Porsche

Always entertaining biggrin.gif The #64 corvette has been in the front for a fair bit and has had to hold off the Astons who were rather fast at the start of the race, though Astons are currently leading.

GTE AM

1. #98 Aston

2. #72 SMP Ferrari

3. #53 Viper

4. #83 Ferrari

Entertaining too, the lead is by no means set to be taken by anyone in particular.

------

Talking points:

- Porsche 911's reliability seems to be a question, 2 have blown their engines.

- the Audi #8 LMP1 Crash was insane, took 4 mins in the pits and the car was back out again good as new:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNFrMLfaNys

- The number #42 LMP2 car was in second place for a fair bit, but seemed to lose power, unsure if it has retired but it's lost its position anyway.

- RAIN is possible though by no means definite, it's passing nearby soon: Doug Schneider on Twitter:

As I post this, 18:06 mins to go, and it's starting to go dark :)

#18 Porsche kissed a wall as D said.

#31 Ligier (LMP2) kissed a wall, too, a bit more than the P-car. Drove back into the pits while creating sparks and flames and with all lights off.

No rain whatsoever.

Another Ferrari, #61, on fire in the pits now.

Good to see that the racecars aren't so far gone from their street counterparts that they still randomly catch fire too.

GT Pro Leader #99 Aston in garage changing brake pads

... and then takes out the 2nd place LMP2 (#46 Oreca) car at the first chicane. Corvette now leading class.

Meanwhile the #96 Aston spun out further up the track on its own, narrowly missing collection from other cars, and Ligier #26 deemed to have had unsafe return to track by spraying gravel on track

"Sorry, I forgot my pads were just changed and were cold"

--- Post Updated ---

Seeing the first and second place GTE-Pro cars, #99 Aston and #64 Corvette, so close to each other in the pits must have given both teams some motivation to get things sorted as soon as possible. As unfortunate as that incident was for the #99 car and as much as I was enjoying the battle and would have preferred for the Corvette to take the lead under racing conditions, I'm still glad that #64 is back in the GTE-Pro class lead.

#64 Corvette now changing brake pads, let's hope their driver remembers to pump the brakes after. #51 Ferrari now leads.

#99 Aston in garage.

#46 Oreca being assisted by crane. Somehow made it back to garage 15 minutes later.
