Mini Reviews

Recommended Posts

If you own something and want to let the rest of us know if it's any good or not, post a mini review of the product or game (include platform) here. Include a couple of pros/cons and a score out of 100%. If possible, try to mention things you've learnt from your own experience of the product instead of repeating the main points of larger reviews. If a mini review catches our attention, we can research it more.

Example:

Test Drive Unlimited (PC Game)

+ Open world (cruising)

+ Lots of cars

+ Cockpit view with 2DOF TrackIR support

- Online server not always available, hard to connect with friends

- Car sounds are innacurate

- Car brakes are badly implemented in both physic modes

Score - 78%

Nokia N96 (Mobile [smart]Phone)

+ 16GB memory built in plus mini-SD slot for high capacity cards

+ Great hardware (GPS, TV Tuner/PVR, 5MP camera, lots of buttons quick access to functions)

+ Nokia Maps software

- Doesn't qualify for Nokia's 'Free Forever' navigation service (yet?) A License in Australia costs $15/year)

- Phone occasionally develops a freezing problem (every few months) and you'll have to perform a Factory Reset

- No touchscreen. Graphical User Interface isn't brilliant.

Score - 74%

(I didn't spend much time thinking about the TDU Mini Review (it's an example), so don't all go screaming that the score should be higher or lower) :)

If you own Blur or Split Second or have recently gone to see Eden Games in France, please post below ;)

LG KS360 (Mobile phone)

+ Looks pretty good

+ Nifty slide out keypad, can make typing texts fast and easy

+ Cool intergrated touch screen dialing

- Crashes too much, it completely froze twice the day after I got it!

- Very slow sometimes

- A bit chunky/fat, can make carrying it around in pocket a bit annoying

Score - 72%

That'll be all from me for now. ;)

2009 Chevrolet Silverado LS 4x4 extended cab

+Really, really solid truck. Not afraid to take it anywhere.

+Astounding gas mileage (for a truck).

+Very nice paint job despite being a mass produced vehicle.

+Engine noise is amazing.

+Much easier to drive than what it seems.

-A few rattles over rough terrain I could do without.

-Headlights are aimed a bit far down for my liking.

-Dash material collects dust like nothing I have ever seen.

Score - 86%

-=NFS Undercover=-

+A Return to the style of Most Wanted

+A Selection of cars

+The Maps open plan

+ Cop's and robbers mode(online) is a nioce mini game

-A bad effort to copy the MW formula!

- Car's don't handel well

- The Streets are largely empty

- Large map is mostly unused

- Races don't have a street feel to them(all roads are barracaded off)

- Has a badly tacked Story for the game

Overall score 40%

-=MAG=-(PS3 only)

+ Epic If played with people you know, or with nice people with headsets!

+ Gameplay is much like the old Battlefield games(2 teams, just hold the points)

+ very simple game modes and Player setings

+ Big online maps(MUCH bigger than what COD offers)

+ Much better than the COD games

+ very Addictive

- Online only

- Not everyones a team player in your squad

- Many COD n00bs try and one man it

Another thing, that i wont rate it down for, but New Map's would't go a miss!

I say 90%, as its very enjoyable! It helps i'm a huge fan of the old BF games, befour then went all Bad Componey on us!

1:18 Mercedes C112 Concept car, made by Guiloy, costed me €69,95 new.

+ one of the nicest boxes I've seen

+ rare, in black/white prototype livery

+ good details like true-to-the-original rims, wingdoors and the extendable rearwing

+ black/red interior, better than the colors of the original interior

- doors and bonnet (rear, it's rearengined) won't stay up and the car has no supports to keep them up

- tires are apparently greased for a shiny finish, watch out putting this on a glass surface!

8/10

Lego Technic 8448: Supercar Mk.II, costed me fl.249,99 new (dutch currency before €), shown model is NOT any of the original models.

+ Biiiiiiiiig set, bare chassis is around 40 to 50 cm long.

+ Modular building method used on the Supercar is brilliant!

+ Working V8 and 5-speed + reverse.

+ Awesome main models: a sort of fastback with Gullwing doors, or a convertible with functioning folding roof.

- It's RWD where the previous model, Mk.I, was AWD, and 4-wheel steered.

- It's red. I'd say paint it black, yellow, or get silver panels of the ridiculously expensive Silver Champion set.

- Manual shows 6 possible models (gullwing, roadster, concept, buggy, racer and hotrod) but only the gullwing and roadster are fully explained, the other 4 only have their ''special feature'' explained.

- Why (insert_swearing_here) is there no Mk.III Supercar!? ¬¬

8,5/10

2003 Mercedes-Benz World Racing 2-dvd PC-game, I believe I got it as a gift, new.

+ over 120 cars which all have own performancestats, behavior and different enginesounds

+ W125 Rekordwagen, C111 II and C112 were in :D

+ variety of colors, licenseplates and possibility to drive with or without softtop

+ larger rims for all the AMG-versions

+ accurate meshes for the car bodies

+ 7 freeroam scenarios, total of over 100 different tracks

- visual damage was only deformational

- cars couldn't do a lot else than drive: no horn, no lights, no turningsignals etc

- the rimpieces with the spokes were 2D...¿

- game was relatively lowdetail and not good enough to compete, especially compared to the similar game: NFS5 Porsche.

7,5/10

Fallout 3

+ Huge environment

+ Unbelievable attention to detail

+ Near infinite dialogue possibilities

+ Immersive plot

+ Nice, well optimised graphics

+ Infinite number of plot pathways, sidemissions etc - your actions have an effect on everything that happens

+ Character customisation, skills, levels, perk add alot of interest

+ Interesting setting/environments to explore

= Ambient sounds add good atmosphere but begin to grate after a while

- Player movement feels very awkward - like you're floating around everywhere

- Third person player animations could be better, also alot of the animations in the game look like they were rushed during production

- Combat sections are a little weak, the first person shooter aspect of the game is not as good as it should be to achieve a good balance between RPG and FPS

- Stability issues with some users still not fixed

In short: A fantastic, immersive game but unfortunately the developers have put so much attention to detail they've missed some of the more important basic aspects.

Now that I've played Split/Second, I can finally write a couple words about it.

+ Very innovative

+ Fast-paced action

+ Very unpredictable: one second you're leading the race, and the next you get blown away by an explosion and end up making your way up the pack all over again.

+ Split-screen mode, not a common feature these days.

+ Pretty challenging: it's not easy to win a race at first attempt.

- Visuals are nothing special (on the PC at least).

- The tracks might get boring after a while, when you know where all the Power Play events are located.

Another few...

GTA IV (PS3/360)

+ Fantastic graphics and detail

+ Awesome story line

+ Some humerous aspects

+ Wide variety of cars to destroy

- My PC can't run it. :p

Score - 99%

Midnight Club: LA (PS3/360)

+ Fantastic graphics

+ Love the customization

+ Massively detailed city, with realistic adverts

+ Changing weather/day is great

- Physics aren't so good

- Races can become frustrating when you crash into a lamp post or something and can't get back ahead...

- All of the cars you race seem to have extra powerful NOS at the start of the race...

Mercedes-Benz CRK-AMG ''C198''

+ gives a big ''pick-a-finger'' to AMG's environment rules and uses 6.2l V8

+ little luxury, so lightweight, so high performance

+ most detailed model I made sofar and MB was impressed too

- too much polygons

- it ain't done yet

- it ain't a reallife drivable car

9,8/10

PSV Eindhoven

+ good club, almost always playing both national as european soccer

+ nice location, not a concrete UFO outside town but a real stadium in the middle of a residential neighbourhood

+ usually good behaved supporters unlike those of other dutch teams

- don't have a lot of money so they can't reinforce the team a lot

- always get up to first place, but halfway during the soccerseason they get in a dip which already twice or three times took away championship

8/10

-=Jimmy Chungs=-

It's a Chain of restaurant's in Scotland(originally from Aberdeen), and i think theres one in Dublin. It's a Chinese restaurant, that's surved in a buffet style.

+ Really nice Food

+ Big range of food (Does depend on what one, Aberdeen has 4 restaurant's, the Main one having the biggest pick)

+ Cheap as well(Prices depend on time of day)

+ All you can eat!

- Drinks are not inclued in the price(Althoug waters free)

- Sometimes the foods not always as good as the last time

And one thats your own fault, is if you do eat too much!

Over all 100% from me! But i do like me food!

*Why do a restaurant? Well since it's scattered accross Scotland(in the main Citys) and a number of people here are from Scotland...why not?

Split Second (PC Game)

+ Graphics are great

+ Unique addictive gameplay

+ Challenging AI

+ Tech support responds within 24hrs

- Game does not support most gamepads in Split Screen mode. I have to unplug the G25 to use a XBOX360 controller. I can use 2 Xbox controllers in split screen mode.

- Hard to drift cars using a keyboard

- Tracks can get repetitive during Season Play

Score - 81%

Blur (PC Game)

+ Good graphics, good physics (arcade), and great Multiplayer Options available

+ Racing and destroying production cars is more enjoyable than first expected

+ Has Battle mode online. Separate online leagues for each skill level.

- Couldn't play Split Screen with an old Thrustmaster gamepad, or keyboard, had to use 2x XBOX 360 controllers.

- AI are either very hard on some tracks or very easy on others.

~13 month bump

Logitech G700 Wireless Gaming Mouse

+ Looks good, is comfortable, plenty of buttons

+ Doesn't require Logitech software to function as a normal 5 button mouse

+ Can change sensitivity (DPI) on the fly using hardware buttons

+ Immediately works as soon as you turn it on (my old MS 8000 Wireless mouse took a few seconds to connect)

+ Can still use mouse while recharging via USB cable

+ Can change speed of scroll wheel between old fashioned incremental (cog) scrolling or super-fast no-resistance scrolling (no more need for mouse gestures or 'Back to top' links in my web browser)

- Included battery doesn't last anywhere near as long as my old wireless mouse.

- Back button (folder/browser navigation) is a little to low, although if I installed the Logitech software I could move the function to the button that's a bit higher.

- Quite expensive

Team Fortress 2 (PC Game)

+ Awesome online community

+ Fun and engaging gameplay

+ Free to play if you're just getting started

+ Lots of strategies with several types of weapons

+ Many unique game modes such as VS Saxton Hale and Prop Hunt

- F2P noobs annoy the veteran players like me

- Some items cost a lot of money in the ingame store and are hard to find otherwise (*cough* Bill's Hat *cough*)

- Can't trade with F2P users that might have items you want

nice thread ryzza I'll do a couple

Fender Stratocaster (ST/Maple-American(california))

+Excellent Tone

+Soft and managable board

+Simple electric units

+Very Reliable

+Has a bigger heritage than the usa itself

-Low sustain

-Doesn't work at all with cheap amps

-Low gain/drive

-Low db (you'll probably need a pedal of some sort if your amp is average)

Score - 90%

Sony HDR-XR200 Handycam - (w/hdd - Japan)

+1080p image/recording quality

+A very clever 5.1 Microphone

+Reliable (I've dropped it 3-4 times still working perfectly)

+Spot mtr/Focus feature ( allows you to select a point from the frame with your finger on the mini monitor and it adjusts the focus and the light for you)

+Easy to understand/use

+Variable recording formats

-Low battery life

-It is quite overpriced against its rivals

-The lens could have been better , it compromises for nothing(zoom)

-It always needs a lot of light otherwise you get noise in the frame.

-It doesn't cope very well with extremely colorful environments

If you're looking for a car game to play while waiting for Driver SF, you might want to check this out, I've started playing at again for the 3rd time now. It's like a 70's detective show script, but you also have free roam in 2 areas, where there's plenty of chasing, being chased, and explosions.

Crash Time III - aka Highway Nights - (PC Game on Steam)

+ Very nice graphics

+ Decent selection of cars (unlicensed replicas of European cars)

+ Decent (arcade) physics, works well on the G25

+ Only $10 on Steam

+ Varied driving missions + free raom

+ Decent story

- Voice acting is sometimes as unbearable as TDU2s

- Have to be very careful not to lock up the brakes at high speed, maybe that's a good thing (more challenging)

- Low probability of chance encounters with bad guys while on patrol (free roam), if you wanted to chase them you'd have to look for them on the map.

So yeah, a very decent game for a very decent price. If you liked Midtown Madness & other arcade car/police games then I see no reason why you shouldn't like this.

Forgot about this thread, thanks to Ryzza for bringing it to my attation. ;) Lets see if we can keep it going now.

Need For Speed: Rivals - On PS3

Pros:

- Handling is fine, not as awkward to grasp as Most Wanted last year(Still an epic game though!) and not as arcady as Burnout Paradise.

- Gameplay keeps you going back.

- Adding a lick of paint & a set of stripes to your cars a nice touch to show your car when online.

- Number plates, nice as well! Also has all the citys from past NFS games way back to Underground!

- Feels alot like 2010's Hot Pursuit(But a bigger map, and more online play!)

Con's:

- Graphics don't seem as polished as Most Wanted!

- You can't pause, even when playing offline...car just keeps moving when 'paused', annoying if you need to answer the phone or anything.

- Music list just doesn't do it for me.... (Avoided though, as can play your own music from the HDD)

- No 'Paradise City' number plate... (No real game play feature, just loved the game and seeing how 2010's HP & 2012's MW had a ton of references to it)

- Feels alot like 2010's Hot Pursuit (Map feels much the same in layout & landscapes! Just bigger)

Overall? I'd say 8/10.

Worth the buy, but a few niggles put me in a meh state(Feels like Seacrest County, the pause menu thing, music is meh lol)

Also on a side note, much MUCH more enjoyable than Forza Horizon. Why? Well I never got handed a ton of money and get any car I want easily, also more to do than just race...also no festival atmosphere BS cramed down my throat!

Posted already but keeping this alive seeing as Christmas is coming

Nfs rivals:

Pros

- Graphics are stunning for an Xbox 360 it's amazing the environments are brilliant and the cars are extremely good

-Physics are good they take time getting used to and have a weighty feel and each car to its own

-Car sounds are brilliant wouldn't expect less cars roar and sound great

-Playing AllDrive is very fun when playing with others and just jumping in with then while they're on a pursuit or just causing havoc

-Car list is brilliant variety of cars to choose fun

-Customisation is good although there is no real body modifications it's a nice addition to the game

-Cops are brutal which is fun and thrilling and craps you up sometimes but has its downsides

Cons

-No pause menu is very annoying does not give you any freedom unless you hide/end the race completely

-Police are brutal when you get above 6 and they just hammer you down

-No real multiplayer to race all these good cars

Overall I'd say 8.5/10 :D
