Dear TDU2 Fans,

The last 7+ years have been amazing thanks to your full throttle support, and we'd like to thank you all for being part of the Test Drive Unlimited 2 community.

This week, online services for Test Drive Unlimited 2 will shut down globally. The game will still be playable offline with local play and still available in your Steam library for download, so fans can still keep racing, but features including online head-to-head race matching and the TDU2 Casino will no longer be available.

Thank you for all of the great memories, and see you around the next turn.

The Test Drive Unlimited Team

Yeah, I wouldn't worry... Kylotonn Racing the French developer behind WRC 5, 6, and 7, V-Rally 4, TT Isle of Man, and more, shall save us with TDU3! They do like to bring back retro IPs and Big Ben has all but confirmed it.

Besides we thought TDU was dead and then came Project Paradise!

Good points. It seems Big Ben's official stance is, "We're not saying its happening, but its happening."

Normally I wouldn't put much hope into any publisher or game studio, but Kylotonn has been doing some impressive things lately, and it seems Big Ben acquired them last month.

Every one of the games you mentioned shows signs that they have good priorities and are becoming more proficient at making games as time goes on:

WRC: I haven't played.. For years it had a bad rep (perhaps because of Milestone), but lately I'm hearing the physics and content are pretty decent now.

TT Isle of Man: I haven't played this either.. but I know someone whos into bike games, and he kept raving about it, egging me on to try it. Fun physics, good details, etc. One thing thats interesting is the course is laserscanned and they used photogrammetry. Anyway, I watched some gameplay videos and it looks impressive for a relatively small studio with a modest budget to match.

Finally, V-Rally 4: This I did play briefly.. and it impressed me even though its not a super good game. What most stood out to me... the randomized rally stages. This was not only clearly the work of a smart person, but also proof that his input didn't get shut down by some higher up dumbass. Essentially, they created large rally environments, like Japan, Africa, Siberia, etc.. filled with many various intertwining roads. So when you play, the game will generate a random stage by setting up barricades and plastic fencing at the forks, keeping things fresh. This is a million times better than what Codemasters did with their randomized rally implementation, which was to stitch together "tiles" of corners which made everything feel samey, boring and unnatural.

I could go on about the rest of the game, but I'll end this by saying it looks like theres competent people over at Kylotonn who seem to want address the important things like physics, fresh gameplay modes, details, etc. I'm still not getting my hopes up, but I don't have anything negative to say either.

hands down we are way too spoiled with Forza Horizon now since TDU1 was left behind. So out expectations might be too high, we need to settle it down to not be disapointed when it won't beat out H4 physics and graphics wise. Because we all know this won't happen. But excited about TDU3, nontheless.

Did anyone actually take a good and sharp look at the website banner over at KT ?

The one in the middle is actually working on a model for TDU3. One of my buddies works at the BBI administration department and told me they're working on the story for TDU3 since April this year.

Wow great catch. These two pictures on the banner... don't have any game branding attached to them like the other ones. And that Camaro Z-28... there's no reason to license that car for any of their other games.

Also, the other one is a Renault Alpine A110-50, a concept car from 2012. This seems to fit with TDU's concept cars as well, for example the Chrysler ME Four-Twelve.

EDIT: found this on their site too. In the lower right image... a race track and an airplane landing close by... :hmmm::hmmm::hmmm:

EDIT 2: ...also those tire marks look just like TDU1 code... and thats quite a slide on tarmac.. possibly Hardcore Mode?

This is sounding very nice indeed, to see that they are MAYBE making TDU3.

It's just like seeing an old pal again after a long time, and everything feels the same. (in a good way)

I't does not have to have the polish quality of FH4, but at least to have the true charm of TDU1 and to be opened for modding.

Not sure if it's correct or not but here are the customization concepts.

While that could be true about the physics and graphics, I disagree with this specific statement. In my opinion, Test Drive Unlimited is not about just cars (and certainly it is not about Hotwheels track like in FH3 and Hotwheels cars!). In TDU you buy and sell houses, you customize houses and apartments, you kinda experience a rich life in exotic islands and that is the tradition of TDU. Furthermore, I love the way TDU kept stuff realistic, Adding the real concept cars made it an up-to-date game for its era. I expect TDU3 to keep the tradition.

Forza wasn't about that either. Forza is not a hotwheels game. Burout Paradise is a Hotwheels game. The hotwheels pack for H3 was optional so for me this argument is quite invalid, as out of 518 playable cars 10 were a hotwheels crossover. I don't think it's fair to call Forza out on a collab.

I am fully aware of what TDU is, it's not like I played it since release.

My point is, that since the title was gone for such a long time, the industry changed. People expect it to be placed down at todays standards. This won't happen. I also have quite wishes I would love to post down for TDU3, but as I know for a studio of the size of KT, which is nowhere NEAR Microsoft's Turn10, I am pretty sure that eventho I have expectations for the game, I will just wait and hope, as a majority of what my expectations, from the standpoint of the consumer and enthusiast, might have been won't be realized in the way I hope to. And speaking as a game dev who is well aware of the industry myself, I am even more aware of that. I just hope TDU3 won't be a disapointment perse, like TDU2 was for me.

PS: Oh, and they're looking for a vehicle artist. Well, what better opportunity could it be for me to "slide into DM's"

Haha that is very TDU-esque but you can see what looks like a fence/barrier thing on the dirt road, like a rally stage.

That rally Alpine A110 makes sense now.. great.

Just... keep that raid stuff far away from this game, no Monster Energy drink stuff either.

Do that asap.

I think what I miss most (apart from the massive open world) and hope to see in TDU3 is simplicity. I loved that TDU didn't overcomplicate things with some cheesy, dramatic storyline. You get off a plane in Hawaii, rent a car, and go earn some money to buy cars and houses to keep them in.

Then there's also so many features that TDU had that newer games should have, but don't. Being able to rent a car, or test drive a car, to decide if you actually like it before you buy. Roads and environments that felt real, actual mountain roads that you couldn't just blast down at 150mph because they were narrow and they were tricky. Hardcore physics mode. Those awesome random challenges like delivering cars, etc.

Go for it man, that could be a good start for you and maybe better vehicles for TDU3 ! :)

Haha, I was joking, even if they are barely interested in me working for them, the studio is in Paris, neither I can speak french nor can I afford to go there right now lmao.

Not even talking about that I think Paris is an unbelivebly ugly city.
