I would imagine that the electronic paddle shifters would use solenoids to change gears, whereas the sequentials that use a gear stick would be purely mechanical

My angle was that the paddles obviously have electronics between them, so most likely there's computer logic to prevent early downshifting. I don't know about such logic in race cars... because race car.

I thought those have a clutch anyway.

edit: I'm pretty sure all gt cars have a clutch pedal.
