Chatbox Killing The Need For A Forum?

I agree with Reaper, people are just trying to get the most posts on the chat box. These people are probably also talking on MSN with each other, since when you look in msn Blooper thread, you see people quoting conversations they've had with people, and then they talk with each other on the chat box. Just pointless spam section to be honest.

I don't care. I'm not on MSN as much as other people so I'm glad there is a chat box so that I can actually talk to some of the members I've never talked to.

PS. Nice abstract sig. I will make one to defeat you. :p

If thats not a one post directed at me then i dont know what is

The only person ive seen bothered about there post count is Safiro, and, dont you want fun?, seriously, Me, randy, andreaz and iced are just having harmless fun in that blooper thread, if you dont like it, dont look at the thread, geez, and if everyone hates the thread, then we wont post in it.

You need to really learn what Spam really is:

Most spambot forum spam consists of links, with the dual goals of increasing search engine visibility in highly competitive areas such as weight loss, pharmaceuticals, gambling, pornography, real estate or loans, and generating more traffic for these commercial websites. Some of these links contain code to track the spambot's identity if a sale goes through, when the spammer behind the spambot works on commission.

Spam posts may contain anything from a single link, to dozens of links. Text content is minimal, usually innocuous and unrelated to the forum's topic. Full banner advertisements have also been reported.

Alternately, the spam links are posted in the user's signature, in which case the spambot will never post. The link sits quietly in the signature field, where it is more likely to be harvested by search engine spiders than discovered by forum administrators and moderators.

Recently, a very destructive forum spam attack has been propagated by inserting into comments redirect domains with an automated posting script like Xrumer. These domains redirect a user to pornographic Websites. If a user clicks on the image or attempts to close the Website an ActiveX codec will be downloaded as a Zlob Trojan[1].

I mean, apart from a few people that make 1 number/letter posts just to get their post count thing up, everyone is enjoying having small chat, which is what the shoutbox is for, this isnt the first time youve tried to spoil things like this.

 This post probably wont do my reputation any good, but honestly, i think its needed.

Just to point out, my post was not directed at a singular.

I think yes, it may be causing the forum to lose activity, but I and a lot of other people use both anyway, i just think the shoutbox is a lot more useful for quick banter without having to always make threads about little things. I know for one that my new phone thread could have been discussed easier in the shoutbox, it's just a useful addition to the site for chat.

I kinda agree both ways, It is taking some of the rubbish but its very hard too keep up with it and I really can't be bothered to go back and read all the archive which is full of random stuff :) If it stays as random small talk then fair enough but if a proper conversation come up about things that people would be intressted in, the fact there will not be a thread about it will cut most people out of the loop. I don't know.

Just seen on another site that the chatbox is located at the bottom of the page inbetween the last section of the forum and who's online bit. It also showed at the bottom of each thread inbetween the last post and who's viewing it but that was instead of a quick reply so this would not be a good idea.

But I must say it being at the bottom of the front page better as when you logg in you see forum and not chat.

Anyone else think moving it to the bottom is a good idea??
