Was driving through the Cat and Fiddle on Tuesday 21st on my way to mcdonalds and then a hair cut after just buying some new buffalo textile pants cost me £150 but they were vv nice :D

Driving slow at the time 40mph maybe lower round one of the massive right handers when I hit a pothole which knocked me onto the cats eyes, I knew by this point I was doomed (Handlebars going crazy from side to side). So the bike hit the curb throwing me into the wall next to it. The slam broke my hip and I was sent flying over into the field (The bike didn't follow me it just flew down the road) I must have landed at least 50m from the wall to which I was greeted by a single sheep staring at me... >.<

 

So as I lay there in agony with my leg behind me shouting at the top of my voice an old lady and her daughter stopped to check up on me. They call the ambulance the min they saw what had happened. Then a biker turned up follow by one or two more. The first ambulance came within 10mins followed by a police car and then another ambulance.

 

The paramedics suspected I had shattered my pelvis and didn't want to move me what so ever so cut my jacket away and started with the drugs. They had don all they could there, the paramedic was a moto GP medic xD and was a god sent to me. So they called in the helicopter and it arived shortly after. After a short journey to Whythenshaw hospital they got me into resus...

 

I had the operation the next day after they found that it was in fact my hip that had been broken (the hardest/strongest bone in your body) So they fitted my with a lovely shiny plate and two screws before sowing me back together and leaving me with 34 staples... Yum.

 

Im home now after showing them that with assistance I can sort of move etc, however I have to have help when getting out of bed and any other sort of movement. The muscles in my left leg are still tensed up from shock so I cannot move it under my own power. Its like having something dead attached to my waist. I have the staples taken out in a weeks time and then the plate removed in 2 years. The doctors rate I will be walking by christmas (Un-aided).

 

And yes I will be getting back on a bike but I intend to buy a car aswell.

So Goodbye Little CG it was fun. Although I may try to restore it...

Just glad I bought those pants as they saved me from further injury.

I've always wanted to go in a helicopter, however I'd rather it wasn't in such circumstances. I wish you a speedy recovery and without wanting to sound morbid, are there any pictures of what remains of your bike?

I've not seen the bike yet. The police recovered it. Ill get my mate to get pics etc but I don't know if I want to see the bike ever again...

Potholes are an absolute menace. I don't understand how councils can't see what effect that potholes have on the safety of road users, especially cyclists/motor-cyclists. I know it's quite expensive and sometimes awkward to repair them but I don't see why it needs to take an accident or a buckled wheel before they even consider filling them in. You can't put a price on a life.

 

But anyway, I hope you have a speedy recovery. It's definitely not a nice situation to go through.

Wow lucky boy, unfortunately these things do happen but it's good that you sort of had everything go right at the wrong moment if you know what I mean. Protective trousers, people immediately on the scene plus a paramedic who was literally perfect for the incident at hand.

That sounded awful. Hope you're feeling OK and you're still not too upset. Must've been hard to forget about the bike and decide to move onto a car. I'm sure all of us here wish you a quick recovery and hope you're well.

 

For the circumstances do you find yourself lucky that there was a Moto Gp medic there and the right assistance or is it unlucky that you crashed in the first place?

Nah, but seriously mate. Good to hear you're alright. A little more (or less, for that matter) speed and you could've landed on your neck. Good to hear you're still with us. Too many good people have been lost this year, as I'm sure you'd have read on the NWB forum.

 

I've had an "off" but, not a crash like you. Best advice I can give is: We all have our mistakes, learn from them to become a much better biker.

 

If you really feel like it, complain to the council about the state of the roads, perhaps then your CG'd be restored for free ;) - That's what I'd do if the roads were in dire need of repair.

The way life goes, unfortunately. Just be glad it wasn't you pe.. Your neck.

 

Don't worry about the CG, as good as a bike it is, it's only a machine. Concentrate on getting yourself up to strength before you try your bikes again. Try a pushbike instead, see if any pains occur when trying that. Last thing you want is to get somewhere, then have to ditch another bike because of the pain ;)

 

Take it easy, mate. You'll be better in no time :)

You sound fairly chipper for someone who's just had such a big accident... ;)

 

Man that sounds painful, I suppose this is the reason my parents don't want me to ride a bike ever. Still, at least you're (mostly) in one piece and the injuries aren't permanent. Here's hoping you fix up quickly and get back to riding bikes again (though cars are obviously better :p)

 

BTW how did you find out that paramedic did MotoGP?

Man, that sucks. I know how you feel, 7 years ago I broke my femur, got a heli ride like you and was in a body cast. It's not fun. =( Hope your doing well. It's annoying as hell to not be able to do much yourself. I'm feeling a little bit glad I'm not old enough to have a bike.

Hope you get that metal out sooner than 2 years :(

Whoa! That's pretty insane! I had to add to they "You're really lucky!" thing, but, um, you are very lucky - the specialized medics, the heli, the operation, being able to go home (big one, that). At least this is something you can recover from.

 

Good luck healing and, when the time comes, getting back on a bike! :)

Yeah, that's what my dad said when he had a helicopter evac - he was most disappointed that he was unconscious for most of it; well, that and the fact he had broken his back and was paralyzed.
