The Crew & Route 909, MMO-car-PG!

Recommended Posts

Hello turboduck community, I wanted to introduce myself to all of the racing communities I could find in order to show them what The Crew & Route 909 are doing as well as giving you guys a chance to be some of the first to play it in the world.

My name is James Banks and I am the community manager behind Home | The Crew . Route 909 is a community based around Ubisoft’s new game The Crew, an MMO-Car-PG! We have given early access of the game to 8 gaming centers around the world and have announced a few unique competitions with some fantastic prizes from Ubisoft, Nvidia, Thrustmaster, Gunnar and paid trips to Gamescom or PAX!

Route 909 is a special operation in which a few gaming centers around the world get exclusive access to the unreleased car game The Crew between May 16 and June 12th 2014. The main reason behind the event is that we want gamers to discover the game hands on. The Crew is so huge it’s hard to describe: you have to play it to believe it.

Now I am not here just to promote the game and Route 909… I am here to ask the community what they think and answer any questions you may have… some questions I may not have the answers for but I will see if I can and try to help you guys understand more about this game in anticipation for its release!

And remember guys… Never Drive Alone!

Hi there James, thanks for showing yourself to our insane selfs. I have updated your Usergroup so you can now add the links and such to your post via edit if you wish.

I've been keeping an eye on Route909 and The Crew mentions on the social sites and have been itching to post more about them but I am currently working hard away on and off this place so it's been hard to do so.

Thanks again and best of luck with Route909, the game and any seafood you may have in the future. :D

PS: 'They' usually don't get out of school/work till about 5PM UK time.

Oh wow nice to see some developers here! Can't wait for the crew :)

I got indeed some questions, it's more a about the deep mechanics of the game, and I really understand if you won't tell me that many secrets. But I love car games and my future plan is also into game development and stuff, so would be nice if you can anwser it! I know you are maybe not quite the right person to ask you these questions, but still :)

I'm about the 3D models and the physics:

How much polygones do the car models got? For example, the models from Forza 4 had ~150.000 on the exterior and ~80.000 on the interior. Are the models also splitted seperately by interior and exterior? Also, are the models 3D-scanned or modeled?

Also, how are the physics? Are they made realistic as possible or more like arcade-needforspeed'ish? Would be happy if you could anwser me some questions :)

As said, looking forward for TC!

Cool some folks that work for the game! Excellent!

Can't wait for the Crew myself!

Seen the trailer for it. Not sure what I think about the crazy customization of turning cars into off road vehicles.

Hoping you don't have to if you don't want too!

Well I was also Curious if there will be similar to like TDU2 with a Customizable Character with Houses and Car Dealerships or just Car Garages.

Also was wondering it the game will be optimized for SLI or Crossfire Dual chipped GPU Videocards for the PC versions.

I notice in some games like TDU2 and others they do not run smoothly while in those modes and have to switch it to a single GPU in the settings.

Hoping to see some new Make and Model vehicles added to the game as well.

Will there be DLC?

Hope to see and read of more updates soon! :D

Thanks Diablo! My working hours are mixed as well and some of the questions I may not be able to answer but rest assured I will be doing my best to get the answers... especially if I don't know because I WANT TO KNOW AS WELL! haha.

James, I imagine you have played the game or will get to, what is your favourite part or thing to do within it?

Oh man, given the fact I work around the game I sadly have not put as much time into the game as I would have liked to, that being said I have still played a hell of a lot.

My favorite thing to do in the game is literally roaming about... I like the ability to just explore and go off on massive road trips, it is a glorious part of the game and I find myself getting side tracked quite often just exploring.

This is what the majority of us are excited about in regards to this game, it's hard to explain why but when you meet up with a bunch of mates or even a load of randoms, there's just something about the ability to wile away the hours and miles muttering on about nothing at all usually.

It's a definite charm with games like these.

Ok, so James we have you here (which is great btw), I got one question that I have been asking for a long time and applies not only to your studio:

Who is the one that decides what cars and what model years will be in the game? Is it like that after they agree with their car brand to be featured in the game you tell them what exact models you want to build and they provide you the data, specs etc.? Because one thing that is pretty strange to me is, that for example the Z4 sDrive35is has been already in games like Forza, Real Racing and even not-so-known CSR (both mobile games!). Exact model year, exact rims... How is that possible? Is it because the manufacturer tells you what you can do and can't do in this context? Y U NO newest Camaro, R56 Mini or Mustang GT?

Others may think I'm weird and crazy, but these little things bother me a little bit and I am very curious to hear about this from you.

Thank you.

Definitely cool to get some insider information here and you can be sure that pretty much everyone here is really excited about the game! :) (Especially the mentioned cruising about, it's a thing that many games can't do right yet it's the greatest thing ever if it actually is done well, if you know what I'm saying)

Welcome Banks. Here's a question you should be able to answer. In the exploration challenge recently completed, the winning team took ~36 hours to complete the tasks, whereas the other teams took over 100 hours. What specific factors would you put this down to? Obviously the game world is huge and fast travel wasn't permitted, but would you put the massive time discrepancy down to difficulty finding things, or difficulty completing the missions/skills (i..e lack of driving skills), or bringing the wrong car spec to an event?

Other questions:

Will the police chase you outside of missions? Even when cruising online?

Is there a tag/chase mode where one player is chased by other online players?

Do mission time limits increase as the career progresses? i.e. there is a 4 hour race, but can you get yourself into a 1-hour police pursuit or takedown event?

When friends are cruising together (locked) can they instantly change their car/spec without leaving the group (connection-wise and/or location-wise)?

Are there any aids to help us find the last 1% of roads that haven't been driven on? (Compass/radar that appears for 5 seconds every 5 minutes (to not make it too easy)

I can answer that one. You will have instant access to your all cars with the smartphone app, wherever you are. And you will stay with your Crew.

Q: Will you be able to make custom missions and challenges for your friends and crew?

Hey guys!

Sorry for the delay, I have been super busy getting things ready on Route909! I have been at the studios since Friday and it is just non stop at the moment.

Basically what we are going to do is make a list of your questions and ask them live on stream to some of the developers. We will have the creative director, the lead producer, the art director and more and they will be answering questions picked off the forums I reached out to!

The live stream will be live on http://www.route909.com from 15:30 CET and 09:30 EDT.

Also we have updated a lot of the rules for Route 909 and are adding photos from the set-up etc, so keep on checking the homepage.

If you have any more questions please fire them to us on our social media pages as we have some people motioning them but I will try to pick up anything else that has been added here.

Please do remember these developers are unable to say certain things about the game due to legal reasons and the fact the game has not been released but we will do our best to get as much info out of them as possible!

Hey James, been catching glimpses of what you guys have been posting on twitter and facebook and it sure looks like you're all-hands-on-deck at the offices and centres. Quite looking forward to seeing the game being played in the stream tomorrow and that's a nice touch with the throwing some questions at the devs. (you should literally do that, throw the questions I mean :cheeky:)

So am I right in saying this starts at 14:30 UK time? Which to confuse people even more will be 13:30/1:30PM GMT.
