Grand Theft Auto: Age Limit?

This is not really an answer to the original topic, but my experiences with GTA when I was younger.

The only reason why I wanted GTA as a kid was to drive a car in a city. I think I got GTA VC when I was 11, my first GTA game. All I ever did was drive around and install car mods. I always wanted to drive in real life but couldn't until I was older. And while racing games were fun, sometimes I wanted to do 'realistic' driving in a city. To this day, I don't think there is any real life driving simulator besides 'City Car Driving.' I guess there's TDU, but I only heard about it much later, and it still focuses on racing.

At that age I knew GTA was violent and you could kill people, but that wasn't the reason I wanted it. I didn't know about pornography, prostitution, drugs, alcohol, organized crime, and everything else the series represents, so it did not affect me. Despite my username, I am actually not a fan of war/shooting games besides the GTA series.

Only as I got older I realized there was a story, and a pretty good one at that, which got me hooked to the series.

Same for me. The reason I played GTA was because the title had ''Auto'' in it, which is dutch for car so I associated it with cars. My aunts often showed me lists of games from a colleague and I could pick a few, I chose GTA and loved the driving aspect. All the killing was side-stuff.

I can remember playing GTA, GTA2 and GTA London before GTA 3 even came out which was when I was about 10, albeit with either my dad or brothers with me till I was older. And I'm not a raving looney who is out to kill everyone....

But nowadays the games are so much more realistic. So much so that I wouldn't really want to have my own kids playing the games under the age of 15 or 16. The older games I wouldn't really have a problem with but GTA IV and anything after I wouldn't want them playing.

And I can see why, this is what I meant by comparing them to frankie boyle, ever since GTA IV they seem determined to be more shocking and cross lines. Which is absolutely fine for me, now, but I'm not sure it'd have been great for a 10 year old me.
