Sorry to hear that Hybrid mate, do a quick test, tilt your box from side to side and if you hear a clicking sound like plastic moving about then you have the dreaded melted from graphics card issue that all 2005/2006 360's will suffer in their time.

 

One thing to note is they will ask you what colour the light on the PSU is, it's something like Orange when off, Green when On and something else. Hopefully you should get it sorted quickly and I would recommend phoning them now, then phone UPS in the morning after you get your email and after you have packaged it they will collect it and hopefully will get it back to you quick as.

So does anyone know if they are 'repairing boxes' with old style kit or replacing them with the new chipset/drive/heatsinks etc?

It will be a 50% chance you'll get yours back repaired with new cd drive and heatsink like I'm sure I have had and then you may get a refurbished or new box back but I would imagine with the amount they're getting back it's easier to repair that persons rather than send a refurb or splash for a new one.

I kind of want mine to brake now for some reason so it's fixed properly, just get that feeling in 2 years it will go just after my warrenty.

 

Unlucky though, hopfully won't take them long to send it back to you.

It's impossible to say. Yes, it is theoretically possible to happen to EVERY Xbox 360 as they are all the same product. Reports of even the newer, cooler, quieter models getting the Ring Of Death have erupted too.

UPS just picked mine up today...on the phone i told M$ how angry i was (for being put on hold for 55 minutes) and they said as an apology i can have a free game (out of kameo, PDZ and Viva Pinata) and i will get a brand new xbox within 2 weeks (hope it has HDMI lol)
