Warning Spolier

Well reading on an Alfa Romeo Owner forum there are some pics from a challenge for the Top Gear team.

It appears they all had to buy old Alfas and as part of it they ended up at the Auto Italia show the other weekend ... hence the pics on the Alfa site.

Interesting car choices ...

I won't spoilt it any more unless people want to.

I know everything there is to know about TG!

They are each given some money, and have to buy Alfas. It should be yet another hilarious cheap car challenge.

The stuff going on in Belgium's Zolder racetrack, is Top Gear vs. The Germans. They have a DBRS9 vs. a Porsche Cup S. And those mini paintball tanks used alongside cars (possibly an evasion game). And the 2 storey cars where the top one has the steering, and the bottom throttle/brakes, with German and British cars. Its in Belgium because of course, thats where the wars happened. (Spoiler Pictures)

They also have another 'epic race', this time in Japan, with a Nissan GT-R against the bullet trains.

The boys try to improve police cars. We don't know anything about what cars they use.

Hammond races a 'flying man' (possibly like the Cayenne race) in an Audi RS6 down the French Alps (I can't wait for this one)

Jeremy and James go through London in 2 old cars, their own, a Mercedes Grosser (Jeremy) and a Rolls Royce (James), possibly to drive through the centre of the capital without paying the congestion charge (I don't think old cars like that have to) despite being huge great monsters.

Andy Wilman's (TG Producer) blog gives plenty of details. Part 1 and Part 2

Right, TG Magazine has a 4 page spread on the new series. So here is the final information we will get, which gives much more detail than before :p

Alfa Challenge: Each given £1000, and a number of challenges to prove that its not passion and soul, but inconvenience and heartache. The 3 cars bought are an Alfa Spider, GTV and 75.

Richard races an RS6 Avant down a mountain in the Alps against two professional skiers. Warning: This item will feature a TG presenter speaking French badly.

Epic Race: The Nissan GT-R vs. a Bullet Train. Can Hammond and May get across Japan faster in a 186mph train than Clarkson can in the GT-R? It doesn't say.

Old Cars: Grosser Mercedes vs. Rolls Royce Corniche. Classic cars for Mondeo money - are they any good? Jeremy (Merc) and James (Rolls) set out on a number of challenges at the TG track and in central London to find out whether you would be better off buying a Mondeo. [Grosser means bigger, i.e. long wheel base for those of you who don't speak German.]

Police Cars: Each given £1000 to buy a car which they can use to make UK police chases interesting (always on those shows like Police, Camera, Action!, Britain's chases are laughable, whereas the US etc go around looking cool). The 3 cars bought are a Fiat Coupe, Lexus LS, and Suzuki Vitara.

TG vs The Germans: Sabine Schmitz returns with some friends from D Motor, the German equivilent of Top Gear, to fight the boys over in Belgium. The battle involves double decker cars, paintball tanks, race cars, off roaders and autotests.

The TG track receives the F430 Scuderia, and the Bentley Brooklands, Hammond celebrates 50 years of touring car racing, and there is a tribute to 25 years of the Austin Maestro.

There will be the usual calvacade of Stars in the Reasonably Priced Car, but this time with an added twist.

Thats all I've got. This series should be immense!

The Grosser is actually Jeremy's car though isnt it?, He either bought it and kept it from this or he just used it, or its a total differant Grosser, but he definitely has one

Yeah. I meant to write that in the spoiler. The Merc is owned by Jeremy, and the Rolls is owned by James (he bought it fairly recently)

  • 2 weeks later...

Another feature that i doubt will be in this series but the next.

THE Illuminations Switch On will be going into Top Gear as Jezzer, Captain Slow and the Hamster face their biggest challenge yet.

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond were today revealed as the international stars who will launch Blackpool's Lights on August 29.

The long-running cult TV programme returns to BBC2 this Sunday and as well as live radio coverage of the Switch On, and the expected media interest, the brightest night in Blackpool's calendar will also be recorded to feature in a future Top Gear.

Executive producer for Top Gear Andy Wilman said: "The boys are really looking forward to it as one of the things they all enjoy is turning on lights! "

But after crossing the English Channel in a Toyota pick-up truck and racing the most powerful road car – a Bugatti Veyron – against the Fylde-built Eurofighter Typhoon, the question that will be asked by fans is: Just how will they switch-on the Illuminations?

[/url]

Tourism bosses were remaining tight-lipped, but Coun Maxine Callow, cabinet member for tourism and regeneration, revealed: "It promises to be a spectacular night, something really different."

She admitted: "There have been some nail-biting weeks as we waited for confirmation the Top Gear team would do it.

"We had to get the thumbs up from everyone involved and, through our long-standing excellent working relationship with the BBC, we know there will be tremendous publicity."

Coun Callow said she hoped the high profile of Top Gear, which attracts a worldwide TV audience of 500 million, would encourage business people to book corporate tickets for the event.

"We are not just talking about Lancashire companies, but also the big players further afield."

Hoteliers welcomed the news, but claimed they would have liked more notice.

StayBlackpool secretary Jacqui Morris said: "It's a fantastic choice, but it would have been far better if we had found out a lot earlier."

She added: "What is good about Top Gear is Blackpool is again thinking on a national scale and will be gaining TV coverage on the back of the event."

As in previous years the Switch On will follow a live Radio 2 concert with top music stars.

So that's something coming up in a future top gear. New series starts on Sunday, woop!
