Bored with TDU2 already. Why?

I can't help but feel that this game hasn't been able to hit the high points it's capable of due to simply the companies involved.

A bankrupt publisher trusting an upstart developer with an idea that, when last tried, was largely ignored but had a small but devoted fanbase?

Honestly, what else could you have expected?

you're right, but we still pay the same amount of money no matter if it's atari or ea, so there's no excuse here for atari or eden.

You're definitely right there.

I don't think it's fair to release an unrefined experience then rely on the DLC to make it playable, cash constraints or not.

Well, not yet, I'm done with most of the missions, Solar Crown is mine as far as I'm concerned, I'm a loner so clubs I haven't joined at all though the everysoften encounters with other drivers out to get my cash is fine.. Most of the time I'll just drive around aimlessly from one side of the island to the other in my favorite cars, which isn't a bad thing because my card can handle this sort of punishment even with all the flashy bits up..

Most of the time these days, other than re-living the glory days it's just drive, drive and drive.. with the radio off for good reason and playing tracks I've found myself like this.

I really dont fine the game boring, but I see how it could be. The implementation of the schools and races. The schools should not have been mandatory, unless there was a pro racing career. They should not have contained the races within the mandatory schools, it takes away for the exploration of the environment and the times when you just want to race.

The should have offered us several different roles to play in the game. It would have been good it they had made the cop mode a full career. A career as a pro driver could have complimented the schools well. Think, GRiD & DiRT mixed together. We have the illegal racers career. Just think how great that would have been to have at least three well defined careers to choice from...

I'll make this short and simple. They should have put a Simulation and Arcade driving models in TDU2.

The developers are beyond caring , atari never cared in the first place .can we just all agree on this game is nothing but a joke and leave it , I think it'd be easier for all of us.

No. I will not agree to that. If with all of TDU2's faults, it's still a very nice game to have. It has an addictive quality about it and this game has longevity to it. It's on of the few console2pc ports that is not keyboard + mouse or xbox 360 controller only.

This is exactly how i feel too. I absolutely love the RUF Rturbo & RT12 (among others ofc) cars in TDU1 as you can really feel them pulling away when you step on the gas. I know a lot of people bash the physics of TDU1 too but I would even go as far as saying TDU1 is just about the most realistic handling game i have ever played, with the exeption of NFS Shift maybe.

It took me just about 1 week after i got TDU2 until it went to the scrapyard. Main reason is ofc the physics. And what's a car game with bad physics? Nothing. You can keep it Atari, im still playing TDU1 and im totally happy with that.

you do have to realise you're about the only person here who thinks tdu2 is good. I'm saying it again and I won't get tired of it tdu2 is nothing but a piece of junk and it belongs there rightfully for a reason. And that's coming from a huge tdu fan so I'm not being insincere.

blah blah blah. i really enjoy the game, in spite of its flaws. sure there are things to be addressed, just like every other game made.

but you wont find me in here crying whining and kvetching about things i have no personal control over.

seriously, if YOU hate it that much, move on to a different game and spare us the nonsensical hatred towards the game. its only a game.

do you spend this much time in real life griping about other things you cant control?

yes I do and let me tell you why, nevermind the £30 atari owes me , I loved the original game so much I wanted this to be as near as good at least. These games are made for the community and I am a part of that. Not to mention a considerable part of it shows hatred so maybe it can be heard. And please don't compare this to the other games. This is still a beta there are many things to be done unlike any other released game.

the only "comparison" i made was in referencing the FACT that many many games come out now that still need work done to get it where the community wants it. Atari does not owe you a single penny, farthing, shilling, quid ,drachma, kroner, peso, juan, euro or any other form of money.

but what baffles me is you admitting that you spend time in real life griping about things you have no control over. its absolutely pointless.

but whatever, thats your life and you lead it as you see fit.

you're getting the wrong side of the point , yes the other games come out and still need work but not as much as tdu2. And also that's the point I'm making if we shout enough we can make ourselves heard. It's better than sitting on our arse and not do anything about it. So you're basically saying that NO one from eden or atari checks this forum or any form of community and they show no sympathy to their customers whatsoever I'm not sure which side you're on there. AND yes it owes me because it promised a good game and a completed game at least . All we got was a game made with not much care and unfinished half-arsed job.

TDU2 is not the TDU2 we wanted.

The fact of the matter is TDU2 is not the game many long time TDU players wanted or expected after such a long time waiting. We got a few of the things we wanted such as a new island, improved roads, night and day with dynamic weather, working roofs/aero and of course more 4x4's. BUT this is all pointless when the physics and handling is as abysmal and jerky as it was and still is. Who on earth made the decision to remove key items that people raved about in TDU as well as the big selling point to the PC players of proper wheel and clutch support? I mean seriously most sequels build on the good of the previous title, Atari and/or Eden decided to scrap them and try something completely different which clearly hasn't worked.

And the funniest thing about all this, amazingly we all were probably thinking they would screw it up but truly thought; 'even Atari couldn't mess this up, could they?'.

"That's a very nice list of reasons for not playing you've given us, loyal, long term, DLC buying fans, but i'm afraid you're all wrong, what you really want from us to make this game great is more crap you'll have to pay for"

The FAQ made me rage considerably

I realise this thread is a couple of weeks old but i've not been online much in the last few months and just spotted this and had to write something..

My biggest disappointment with TDU2, above and beyond all else, were the physics. Being very much into the Racing side of TDU1 the handling physics were at the heart of TDU for me, the handling had a depth to it that TDU2 just doesn't . I see alot of people complaing that the cars all handle the same in TDU2, not sure I fully agree, though I do admit the difference between cars was greater in TDU1. I think the biggest problem with TDU2 is that the cars lack feel, which is an area where TDU1 was so utterly brilliant. The feeling of being connected to the road, feeling the car react to the surface of the road and feeling the car slide and judging how much to let it slide and then just holding it there, all these are removed from TDU2. In fact the sense of feeling in the original was so good that we forgave the game many of it's faults (except of course for game crashes!) and that's what keeps it interesting. With TDU2 I felt like I was above the road, not on it, and the handling had no finesse and didn't allow you to try different techniques, therefore there's less to learn and ultimately that dramatically shortens it's shelf life. I think the feel of the cars, or lack of should I say, is the single biggest reason why I found TDU2 boring after a while, there's just not the same sense of achievement when you get it right.

This is made even worse by the actual roads themselves. Did someone drive round the whole of Oahu and Ibiza in some kind of super-bulldozer and flatten out every single little bump, nuance and rise? The smoothness of the roads just adds to the lack of feel and therefore interest. Just how bad it was was brought home to me when I tried the new Palm Grove (or Sandle to the Metal). In TDU1 Palm Grove was an awesome challenge that could (and did) keep me interested for months. Taking an S7, CCR etc around that track was a real seat of your pants, knife edge ride, the car would bounce from one bump to another, and if you hit one wrong then it was over in an instant. It was fun learning how to use the uneveness to your advantage and what areas of the track to avoid, it took months to master tracks like Palm Grove. Fast forward to TDU2 and the very first time I took an A1 car on the track I was able to take the chicane flat out.....eh? Where's the challenge? There was no skill to the track anymore, no need to think where to place the car to avoid this, or take advantage of that, just a billiard table smooth road that asked only that you got the correct racing line and nothing more. Essentially they'd removed anything interesting.

But what really gets my back up is that the whole game felt so rushed and incomplete, even though there were nearly five years between realeases. No trade feature???? I got the feeling from the start that TDU2 was meant to have a trade feature but they didn't have the time to put it in, or there were problems with it so they decided not to put it in. Either way it would explain why you can't easily sell your cars on TDU2. It would also explain why it's so hard to make money in TDU2. Making money in TDU1 was a problem if the trade feature was down, although not as difficult as TDU2. Did they really mean to make it that difficult? Or did they just decide at the last minute to ditch trade? Shame, because the trade feature was an interesting little part of TDU, it was like its own little economy and after a while cars would command certain prices, i.e. S7's were always available cheap, so no point in buying those to make money, ahhh but there's an enzo going for cheap, i'll get that because I know someone will buy it at full price. All the cars were like that and it was like a game within a game.

Also, the reliability of the servers was another example of how rushed this was. I haven't been on TDU2 for quite a while but i'm gonna take a wild guess and say there's still big problems. If there's ONE thing that should've been learnt from TDU1 it was make sure the servers work. For a game that prides itself on community this is fundamental, I think it's safe to say that they didn't work. And for anyone thinking "oh well, its a new game they'll get it sorted".......Really? They said that about TDU1, they never did fix them, there were improvements but there were always problems, in fact I think it was the single biggest complaint levelled at TDU1. Game crashes were probably #2 on the list, and TDU2 didn't improve on that either. All this, plus little things I noticed liked spelling mistakes on signs etc made me feel that TDU2 was incredibly rushed and that, to a certain extent,i'd been ripped off

Those are just the main reasons I was dissapointed with TDU2, i'm sure i could write pages more if I put my mind to it. But not everything about TDU2 was bad. I liked the casino idea, instead of chilling with friends parked on a beauty spot, you could go in the casino and hang around, play some cards and have a laugh (oh wait, no you couldn't cos the servers didn't work....but it had potential). The customisation of the charachters and houses was good, and added some interest. Also, the paint shop had potential, the graphics etc were an interesting addition, it's just that they didn't work very well. And of course Ibiza was something that added alot of interest.

But overall, TDU2 is a game that has lots of potential but ultimately failed.

I would just like to say if anyone from Atari ever reads this and you're thinking of making a TDU3 then please take notice of everyone here and make the driving interesting again. If you can do that, and that the servers work, then we'll forgive the game any of it's other faults. After all we did it with the first one.

The annoying thing is that the Poker, Houses, Photo Challenges etc. work perfectly and they've received a lot of polish... The core mechanic feels like it was thrown together in 2 weeks. It's not good enough atari D:

I agree with the 'connected' stuff duck said. Whenever I arranged my garages in TDU1 I would never use the swapping mechanic teh garages had, I would take one car, and drive it to the other garage. Sometimes I'd drive road speeds listening to sweet radio, other times i'd go like a bat out of hell. Either way was fun because you felt so connected to the car and the road that it *felt* like driving. It didn't have to be the most realistic thing ever, it just had to feel believable, and it did. I liked the way cars like the charger cornered like an aircraft carrier and rolled so much it looked like it'd roll over.

It's a shame the handling is so pants because some roads are amazing. You get great views, great roads, great cars and sometimes great sounds... then you turn and realise you might as well be on the M6 because the road has no affect on the car.

I will have to say from being a TDU1 Loyalist. I love the first game with a passion. I was happy and excited that they did finally release TDU2. I am upset with the errors and screwups they had with this game. But unlike everybody else severely complaining on the game. Its both a love and hate relationship on this. But in all else. I love the game, I truly enjoy it. Just want more people to cruise.... but most of the people on here decide to complain. I just enjoy what we have period, keep hittin atari and eden in teh sack on the whole fix it issues, and just cruise with what few friends that still decide to cruise. And just take Diablo's thread on the steering and gas/brake settings and readjust it to how you like the feel. Just NEED MORE PPL TO CRUISE lol

I agree. The reason I got bored with TDU2 was that it was so repetitive, not I didn't like how something felt with the game. I still think that it is unlike anything else that is on the market today.

Aside from all the bugs and obvious unfinished bits, I don't feel engaged to drive nearly as much as TDU1. Maybe because I don't have a wheel on my ps3 but cars just don't beg me to drive them in this game. It's way to easy to just drive at top speed. Therefore cruising feels to slow and boring. In TDU1 almost every car felt powerful. Driving at high speeds needed a lot of attention. I felt like I was really controlling the car. In TDU2 I just feel like I'm mashing the gas and slaping the wheel from side to side while some weird traction control keeps me on the road. Overall driving was more exciting, enticing, and fierce to me. It's sort of lost that feeling in TDU2 but I still play it because there's nothing else like it that isn't worse. Let's hope some improvements and more cars come to salvage what they can of this game.
