This has always been a debate: Which German car maker, between Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz is the best

Personally, I think during the early 90s, Merc were at the top, BMW 2nd and

Audi 3rd, but when Mercedes started to cut costs in the late 90s, in my

opinion they dropped to the bottom leaving BMW and Audi to fight it out.

During the early 00s I think BMW ruled, but around 2005/6, Audi has without a doubt climbed to No.1, with fabulous new cars (RS6, R8) and a 25% sales increase worldwide.

Recent good cars:

Audi: S3, RS4, S5, RS6, S8, R8, R10 TDi

BMW: M3, M5, M6

Mercedes-Benz: Most AMG models, SLR

It's a tricky one

I choose Opel :D

Oh wait Opel isn't up there .

BMW: Couldn't make a good looking car if they were given instructions in big neon lights !!!!!!!!!

Mercedes: Everyone talks about poor Merc reliability but you have gotta admit they have the most style out off all the German brands.

Audi: I like Audi but I sometimes think they are too boring with their designs which is a bad thing in todays very competitive market.

I gotta say Mercedes, unlike owning the BMW I wouldn't have to face the constant abuse that people give BMW drivers, it would be money well spent and last but not least I possibly wouldn't buy a Merc because I personally feel Opel, Cadillac & Saab make better looking cars than any of these three :D, but because I could only choose out of these three I had to choose Mercedes because of the above points.

Yeah GM rules :D !!!!!!!!!!!!

Nige i'm sorry but your Audi point makes no sense, as MCW says Audi have seen a 25% sales increase, so these so called boring designs don't seem to be causing too much concern in the ever increasing competition, and to be honest i'm finding that Mercedes are becoming ugly. There again i am an Audi enthusiast,

Now tell me about the sexyness of Opel, Cadillac and Saab?

They are all ugly, no matter what...

The Opel Speedster (Turbo) and OPC (/VXR) versions are oké....

There are some absolutely beautiful Saabs out there!!!!

And i didn't know about the thing with Maybach, i thought Mercedes made Maybachs, like where Nismo released tuned, nicer Nissans. I'll still definetly vote Mercedes anyway though, mainly because of the 190E Cossie. Audi and BMW have yet to release a car that i love or that is in my Top 10 Car List.

Not really fair having a Hartage at the top. For that one i'd have the Hartge but if it were a normal 530 or M5 or something i'd still choose the CLS. I do love the S5 though...

Trust me, you would have the M5 after driving it, since I have a CLS and an M5, the CLS feels like and old mans car after driving the M5... but the CLS does make a good noise

Well looks like the R8 V12 TDi is getting close to production. Audi have made an R8 TDi Le Mans concept, which Channel 4 have just driven.

http://www.channel4.com/4car/news/news-story.jsp?news_id=17313

The Sun chief motors bloke Ken Gibson (iirc) drove it in Miami to and had a police escort apparently as the car is worth millions.

They reckopn the production will still be diesel but be a smaller block under the bonnet and they are contemplating having valves in the exhuast to make the desired not as it doesn't sound very lairy atm.

Channel four also said as there was only 3 months to make the concept car, they did not have time to design a gearbox that could cope with the engines jaw-dropping 1000Nm of torque, so they had to limit the torque and fit a strengthened A4 box instead.

Imagine if the real car managed to come out of the factory with 1000Nm of torque...POWER!
