His body was found in a remote spot at Paddington railway station. Officers said he was not struck by a train.

The 42-year-old presenter was in a "vulnerable" state following the drug death of his fiancee, Natasha Collins, in January.

Next of kin have been informed. It is not yet known how he died and a post-mortem will be carried out at a later date.

Sky News crime correspondent Martin Brunt said the area where the body was found is not accessible to the public.

He added: "It looks like he found a quiet spot to die."

The TV star vanished after boarding a Tube train in north London on Monday.

The news of his death came a day after his father Oliver issued an emotional appeal for him to get in touch.

Scotland Yard had been investigating unconfirmed sightings of Mr Speight in Bournemouth, St Albans and London.

Close family members had been leaving messages on the presenter's mobile phone.

His father said in a statement: "Mark, wherever you are or whatever you are doing to give yourself time to deal with your own personal grief, we totally understand but we need you to get in touch.

"Please don't give up on us because we are not giving up on you."

Miss Collins was found dead on January 3 from boiling water burns and a drugs overdose in the bath of the north west London flat she shared with Speight.

The presenter told police the couple had been "partying" and had taken cocaine and sleeping pills as well as drinking wine and vodka.[/Quote]

Looks like he commited suicide :(

Missing TV presenter Mark Speight was found hanging on a building adjacent to Paddington railway station, British Transport Police have said.

Station staff found a body, believed to be that of the 42-year-old, hanging on the roof of MacMillan House on Sunday. The body was out of public view.

The body is to be formally identified later by Mr Speight's family.

Mr Speight was last seen on 7 April and was said to have been devastated after his fiancee Natasha Collins' death.

A post-mortem examination will be held later on Monday and an inquest into Mr Speight's death will be opened on Wednesday, police said.

'Fragile state'

Mr Speight was last seen on CCTV boarding a southbound Bakerloo line Underground train from Queens Park station.

Later that day he was reported missing when he failed to meet Ms Collins's mother for coffee in Covent Garden.

Mr Speight's 31-year-old fiancee died on 3 January after taking cocaine, sleeping tablets and alcohol.

She was found with 60% burns from hot water in the bath at the couple's flat in St John's Wood, north-west London.

An inquest recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.

Following her death Mr Speight, who was said to be in a "fragile state of mind", had moved in with Ms Collins's mother.

Paying tribute to his son, Oliver Speight, said: "Mark was a wonderful son and brother to his family and he will be very sadly missed."

Mr Speight's agent, Jan Kennedy, of Billy Marsh Associates, said: "We are absolutely devastated at the tragic news of the loss of Mark and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family as well as the family of his beloved fiancee, Natasha, whose equally tragic death had affected him so inconsolably."

  • 1 month later...

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but the coroners report is out... Poor bloke

Children's TV presenter Mark Speight committed suicide by hanging himself, a coroner has ruled.

The 42-year-old was found hanged at Paddington station, in central London, last month. He killed himself using his shoelaces, the coroner said.

A suicide note was found in his pocket, Westminster Coroners Court heard.

Mr Speight, who grew up in Wolverhampton, was said to have been devastated by the death of his fiancee Natasha Collins earlier this year.

The presenter of BBC show SMart was missing for six days before his body was found on 13 April.

Minutes before his death Mr Speight had unsuccessfully tried to hang himself with his belt, the coroner said.

His death came three months after Miss Collins died at the couple's flat in St John's Wood, north London, after taking cocaine, sleeping tablets and alcohol.

Mr Speight was originally arrested on suspicion of murder and supplying Class A drugs following the discovery of her body, but no charges were brought.
