What Anit Virus software is best??

Just a quick question whats best. McAfee, Norton or a freebie like AVG, avast etc?? What do you guys think??

I have the Free AVG, and it works fine for me ^_^, never had a problem

The better half has that on here laptop but it seems to conflict with Vista and her Battery Charging Program thingy

I have Avira AntiVir. Works like a treat although it does give annoying pop-up's every so often so it's better to get the premium which is only like £12.95.

 

Norton is so crap honestly. It's so slow and won't let you do anything else while it's doing a scan for viruses.

I used AVG Free for about 2 years and it never did me wrong, so much so I bought it as I wanted to kind of say thanks to the makers.

My brother (important IT person at a large school) certainly recommends AVG, although I'm not aware of him having problems on Vista... I shall have a word with him for you :)

I've got AVG on Vista. Doesn't appear to give problems.

Looks like its between AVG and McAfee. I've always used McAfee but with that new secure site thing it doesn't always show all the pitures (well on Shars home PC). But it looks like I'll go with AVG and see how that goes.

 

BTW that problem with Shars laptop is probably somethin to do with that laptop itself, think it needs to be sent off to HP.

I'm currently using a program called Ashampoo Antivirus which I got free with a computing magazine. Only let down is that its only a two month trial.

 

But every time I do a virus scan it uses such a little amount of resources that I can still carry on working as normal. Its proved itself to be a pretty good program. Just a shame its a two month trial.

 

I'll probably end up going back to Norton which I get free for being with BT but before that I might try AVG because I havent heard people stop talking about it over the last few weeks.

I've been using Kaspersky for a few years now. Isn't free, but I really like it.

They give good support too!

Had Norton for 2 months when I got my homehub a while ago, it kept identifying threats but couldn't get rid of them... that's when I tried the Kaspersky trial and it found loads more and sorted them all no worries.

avg is free yes but personally i dont like it.

 

i use avast, i find it more secure than avg but its personal preference.

If you get the 'free' version of AVG, then yes it is free.

But if you buy the other version of AVG, its, err... not free.

Avast is also good, AVG does the job too, Mcafee is rubbish in my opinion. I agree with David about Norton AV not the best like.

Thats not true i have had Norton for ages and i can scan with norton and maccafe whilst playing TDU and i have no probs.
