Test Drive Unlimited 3 (TDU3)

So what do we think now guys? It's 2013, basically 2 years after the release of the let's face it atrocious TDU2, so has the bitter taste worn off now and we're ready for the hype and want of a TDU3? As we know Atari are delving deeper into the realm of mobile/tablet and online games and of course Atari owns the TEST DRIVE trademark, but that doesn't mean that a TDU3 couldn't happen as they could allow another developer use the name and thus we get a TDU game developed by maybe someone competent but with hardly any Atari involvement. :hmmm: This could be a good thing actually!

Imagine an open-world racer on the level of Slightly Mad Studios' pCARS or check out impressions and media from our own members [iURL=http://forum.turboduck.net/forums/150-Project-CARS]here[/iURL].

What say ewe? :D

If TDU2 taught us anything, an open world driving game should focus on the driving, (the cars, roads, sounds, handling, force feedback, etc) - all 'the sims' stuff takes the background.

pCARS is due for release around thanksgiving 2013 (although us members being the 'Atari/EA/etc' can vote to delay it if more time is needed). Then there'll be some time for extra support and content. Then there's the Rally expansion pack that a lot of us want (which would rival Richard Burns Rally). After that perhaps we can get an open world game started.

This is exactly what needs to happen. Atari needs to come together with another studio, get a great developer to make TDU3 and driving fans everywhere would spend lots and lots of money. TDU3 could honestly bring Atari back to life, they're having a bit of trouble clinging on as it is, it seems.

Yeah I read their latest financial publication, there's only so much time that investment firm will allow them to flesh out their repayment term, plus the shareholders must be looking for blood as every year they seem to get shafted even more than before.

if you ask me, tdu3 can be an improved tdu1 with no file size control for better modding, better modding possibilities, servers like in shooter games (bf2, bf3, cod etc), and slightly improved graphics something like IP will do, and for now i cant remember more things i needed in 1.

from 2 i will take car features like windows roof and other, casino and other stupid things no.

that's what we said when there were rumours for tdu2.

Lets face it , studios never do that sort of thing. And the publishers rather want to come up with a completely new game every time. In tdu's case it doesn't matter if the new stuff is good or bad.

I highly doubt we will see tdu3 and if we do, it won't be in the same format as tdu1.

I strongly disagree with the idea of servers. Meeting strangers when driving around in TDU1 was one of the things that made it so great. In my opinion, the old system would work well, only if they (hugely) improved the stability & connectivity and upped the 8 player cap to something closer to 80 :p

80 people in one session?

that could end up well :hmmm:

we complain about the rammers in 8 people sessions :cheeky:

Hosting a game as Admin would be cool , being able to control the weather , time of the day , traffic etc. Those features would be great for movies and cruising. Speaking of traffic , I remember those highway races from NFS Undercover , lots of traffic and you had to drive past it and win the race. I would love to try this in TDU.

well we already sort of did those races.

In fact anything from tag, golf, off-road racing, team sprints, drag races, high jump we've pretty much done it all. You don't really need a game mode per se, just the open world is enough.
