TDU2 [desperately] needs ...!

Hey guys, if you were here for the original 'TDU2 needs' you know that we collected a lot of good suggestions and ideas for TDU2 before we even knew it was coming. In fact I think it was about 3 years ago :holysh: it was almost 4 years ago!! we did it. And isn't it funny how time flies but more importantly how things can change and not unfortunately for the best.

We are now close to 3 months of having TDU2 and even though many of us can say we still play it, do we actually enjoy it? Sometimes yes but from the posts and opinions all around a fair amount would say no. And that's a real shame as anyone who played TDU and had been wondering what TDU2 could encompass knows that the potential within it was great to imagine. Basics (in thinking terms) like night and day and weather was at the front of everyone's wishes and we got this but there was other stuff we didn't ask for, want or even had been removed.

So here we are again but this time we know what we have and we know what we want to see happen to keep us not just playing TDU2 but actually sticking with the series. If you've completely given up then that's fair enough and I can see why you would but if you feel there is still time to get it right then by all means contribute away and let's show whoever is making these dumb decisions with the title/series what those who play the damn game actually want!

Whose with me!!! *massive crowd cheer* :bunny:

I will aim to compose and post this list by or on Friday 13th May (2011) ....erm maybe wait till the following Monday/Tuesday actually. :D

Please post only 2 that's TWO suggestions per each post of yours, no multi-posting and please refrain from using bad language and insulting the devs and co. Cheers!

MUST HAVES

* Do something about the hackers and cheats; ban them, reset them, give them pink cars with cheat written all over them or something otherwise it will just get worse.

* A means of acquiring money once all the Cups are completed; the game is about living the high life, how can this be done if we can't get money to do so.

* Better physics; TDU2 physics to a large number feel a step backwards to TDU. Ryzza - TDU1 was about picking nearly any sort of fast car, and enjoying any type of driving style (relaxed, showboating (drifting), precise fast racing, chasing, making movies, etc). TDU2 seems to be more about struggling to stay on the road without feeling like you're driving at the limit.

* Look with Wheel; ability to look left and right with a wheel would be a godsend.

* No offroad routes; it would be really good to have the option for the GPS not to use offroad routes to get to the destination, as if you are in a non-offroad vehicle then going offroad is going to take longer than going the long way at high speed.

* GPS mini-Zoom; again a feature from TDU - while following the GPS you could zoom out the GPS to 3 levels so you could see roughly where you were heading to if the destination was way off in the distance. It was especially helpful when travelling long distances and you wanted to take/try a different route.

*********************************

WOULD LIKE

* More off road vehicles.

* Better Photomode with ability to export our pics. Option to detach the focus from the car so we can take pics of the stunning environment would be excellent also.

* No damage option or a quick fix for damage option, how about the garages that show Repair on them? Repair the car for a price etc

* Better communication and Quality Control/Testing of future patches/updates. Get us to do it even! :D

* Less grip and less restriction offroad; when driving offroad at speed the car seems a bit too planted, it should be sliding and really allowing big glorious slides when thrown into turns and general larking about. Also it would be more beneficial to remove or at least lessen the restriction of non-offroad vehicles and just make them handle really badly rather than nuke their performance.

* Paint DLC/Club Cars; Why can't we paint these cars, it's kind of a shame to have the game encourage customisation and make yourself different when everyone will end up driving the exact same cars. Obviously real world limited editions are exempt like the Veyron SS

* Fuel; yes it's a love and hate feature but that's why an option to have it would be great for those who want it.

* Traffic cars; the wheel blur on them isn't brilliant and somewhat distracting, not a major issue though. Also some AI traffic warp speed round intersections which is surreal to watch when it occurs.

* More Debris; in TDU we had leaves and newspapers blowing about adding that little touch of urban and natural mess to the environment, sure they didn't do anything but it was a nice touch having some everyday items just getting blown about the environment. On offroad areas you could even have the occasional tumbleweed blow by when a player has been idle for a length of time. :)

*********************************

VEHICLES

* Adjust Seat Position; Bring it back!!! Why remove something so many people loved and even shouted at other Devs to implement in their own games due to the immense implementation of it in TDU.

* Internal indicator display; We asked for indicators and we got them and we use them but we can't see we are using them unless we are in an outside view. A simple icon that shows their use would be great.

* Jerky Look to Apex; In the cockpit view that many people used in TDU the Look to Apex in TDU2 is far too jerky and makes it very difficult to enjoy driving from that view. Some would love an option to control it's speed or even disable it completely. (remember giving us options is a good thing!)

* Lamborghini; hey if we don't ask we don't get!

*BMW; see above :)

* Wheel blur at high speeds is quite bad, not a major issue but a better look would be welcomed.

* Dashboards and dials are poor in this day and age, the leather and textures look good but the dials compared to games like Shift/Forza/GT are somewhat laughable. Where's the digital gauges and such we were promised. :sadbanana:

* Brighter Lights; the lights on a number of the cars in the game are too dull (somewhat desaturated even), even at night it's somewhat difficult to see the indicators unless you are somewhat close to the person. So added brightness and colour to the lights would be very welcome indeed.

* Is there a Draft; bring back drafting/slipstream, some of the fun of TDU was maxxing out your car in someone else's slipstream and it made racing interesting having this dynamic also.

* Air Resistance; No matter how fast you drive, it feels like you are driving in a vacuum. This would kind of eliminate the issue where your car suddenly stops accelerating after hitting 220km/h, 269km/h, 307km/h, 329km/h or 351km/h because cars wouldn't hit their top speed so quickly.

* Revert and Change Factory Exterior/Interior Colours; In TDU we could hit the Paint Shop and select the factory colours and in going back and forth even change the interiors to something we would perhaps prefer. In TDU2 there is no way to do this at all so an option to revert/change the factory colour options of the car (vehicle) would be brilliant as sometimes you just feel like Cream Leather with Aluminium instead of Red Alcantara and Carbon Fibre. ;)

INDIVIDUAL VEHICLE ISSUES

Audi

R8 5.2 V10 Coupe - Is a manual transmission but the avatar does not interact with the gear shift at all.

*********************************

SOUNDS

* Improved Engine Sounds; some are a vast improvement over TDU but others are embarrassing for the cars sporting them.

* Engine redlining; why do some cars seem to have a sudden full stop rather than bounce off the limiter, or even get nowhere near the redline. (Lancia Delta for example)

* Rain Drops; When in a car during heavy rain you can hear the rain hitting off the car and the windows, this would be a nice detail to have and make Ryzza smile.

* 5.1 Subwoofer; Make better use of the subwoofer channel in 5.1 surround sound. Players with 'Buttkickers' barely feel anything, compared to TDU1 which was very communicative in this area.

*********************************

MULTIPLAYER

* Host Options; Allow the host to change all options and kick those who don't abide by what the host sets and block that user from joining that hosts room again until they exit the game or a set time period. Allow a voting option for changing track and class also.

* Host Migration; should the host leave this shouldn't end the lobby, just switch the hosting to another player.

* Increase Finish Timer; 30 secs is enough on a drag race but not on an island sprint or a 30 mile rally so allow the Host to select the length of the Finish Timer from 30 secs to 10 mins if need be.

* Isolate Session; again referencing TDU and the ways it used to work you could 'Isolate' yourself and those you were 'Locked' to into it's own session and not have to worry about others joining or whatnot. Sure this became a slight issue if someone wanted to join but for the most part you could work around that by just Locking each other and Isolating again.

* Real-time Lock/Unlock; having to bring up the ingame menu and then find the player you wish to Lock to or even Unlock is kind of strange compared to TDU's simple menu which you could use in real time while moving on the road. Please bring this functionality back as well as the above, the Up and Down D-pad are still available to use if wonders for where this could be placed in the control structure are needed. (PC obviously has plenty of buttons for this)

*********************************

CLUB vs CLUB

* No Collisions; give players the ability to select if they wish to race in challenges with or without collisions.

* Basic Setup of Races; allow creators of Challenges to select whether collisions are on.

* No need to Race; TDU and TDU2 was and is for a large part all about the driving, not so much the racing so how about giving those clubs who aren't really into racing the ability to Level up their clubs by doing internal cruises and challenges. Example an island cruise lasting near an hour with a full session (8) gives a 1000 XP. :) Doing Green Multiplayer Challenges on the map could give XP also.

*********************************

PC

* Proper Force Feedback for wheels with full clutch support... like TDU.

* Track IR support

* Transmission detection like TDU; is the car a manual or paddle shift, does it have more than 6 gears? This was a great feature people really liked about TDU. Please bring it back

* Keep the Launcher News Updated with latest releases, upcoming packs and planned maintenance.

*********************************

XBOX 360

* Ability to export our Photomode images.

* Improved quality and less compression of Photos.

*********************************

PS3

It desperately needs a new physics. Just copy the old ones, they seem to be on the same Havoc Game Engine.

Let's just put it simple. "The Way that cars handle in the first TDU."

(Please tell them, to at least try.)

Consistent fun handling, in place of the random floaty thing we currently have.

No freeride damage option. If you want to get an Impreza or Sang Bleu and ram people, cool. But I'd like you to be only able to damage the willing.

In order for me to continue playing this game while we wait for more content (or TDU3, whichever comes first), I personally need realistic (not simulation, there's a difference) and predictable (fun) handling tied with proper force feedback. TDU1 was about picking nearly any sort of fast car, and enjoying any type of driving style (relaxed, showboating (drifting), precise fast racing, chasing, making movies, etc). TDU2 seems to be more about struggling to stay on the road without feeling like you're driving at the limit.

#2 Proper TrackIR support, 6-DOF preferably (thank goodness for cam-hack). This aids in cornering, drifting, checking for traffic at intersections, increases the immersion, and allows us to better enjoy the detailed car interiors. Using buttons or the mouse to look around is much slower, and less precise. In TDU1 when in the outside view, I could turn my head to look behind me, negating the real need to use a 'look behind' button. It made police chases and falling backwards down mountains a lot easier.

I don't view TDU as a racing game, but simply as a driving game - so the driving feel is most important. Bost on TDU1's hardcore mode "as is" while you work on something better if you have to, because you don't have a lot of time before we start looking elsewhere. Keep in mind that TDU1 was the reason that I (and many others from the old TDU forums) purchased a Logitech G25. For the sequel to be this hopeless with the wheel is frankly a bit insulting. The only thing that tempts me to keep playing is the offroading, which is slightly better in the handling and force feedback department.

TDU2 imo desperately needs:

GENERAL

1. a new QA department which actually properly uses the time they are keeping the updates away from us, as far as they still have lots of new stuff pulling numbers and entering the waitingline. Thanks to the Exploration Pack DLC it for me is clear that they are unable to perform what's being demanded, which is finding as many bugs as possible and fix them before releasing the updates. The updates now are being said to be at QA for many weeks over and over again, but 0 of that is being reflected to us through the state of what we get to update our TDU2 builds with. The worst of it is that these bugs are, so to speak, noticed before you even fire the updated game up, and to make it even worse than thát, they are so amazingly easy to spot and so ''always and everywhere'' occuring, that I don't have faith in them anymore.

2. more stuff WE'VE been asking for! They said they would listen to the community this time? Yea, that's why you:

...didn't include refueling and other vehicle details (yóu devs didn't like it or didn't find it important, yóur opinion counts?),

...didn't include more ways to earn money (has been a discussion since the start of the game, and now you even took away the only source worth redoing to get money),

...don't seem to focus on improvements of many aspects of which you also should agree they are the key thing for racinggames.

Forget about what YOU consider important, the players know very well if something's wrong and it messes the experience up a bit, that loses you customers and money for a next part (of which with TDU2's state, I really don't wanna know how that new part will end up like in 4 or 5 years).

TDU1 had some flaws, TDU2 seems to have more, especially when a successor in general should be better in every way. For a next TD/TDU, you're only affecting yourself, you now have to work even harder to catch up with every aspect the game uses, and people will seem too demanding (which they aren't, they just want the game to be competitive with the rest).

1. Do something about their testing procedures. I generally don't mind a few small bugs here and there but they showed us a huge lists of what was to be improved with the patch. That's all well and good but for the normal user, the patch seem to have ruined more things than it fixed. I haven't checked it all myself yet, but I have no idea how they could not see how the new wreck system was so broken, and then let it go through to the release version. If none of them managed to notice that before release then I don't know what to think...

2. Improve the Photomode. What I really liked to do in TDU1 was to take action pictures when I was on a cruise with my friends and with TDU2 they removed that possibility and frankly it's hardly worth using Photomode anymore. :( Also, can you PLEASE remove the limits that keeps the camera stuck to the car all the time. Right now it's almost impossible if you would like to take a picture that doesn't have the car in it.

GAMEPLAY MECHANICS IMPROVEMENTS:

1. Introduce multiplayer tournaments, mix classes, cars, tracks and skills. If not let the host change the race in a ranked race because even if the players are good (and are having fun) racing gets pretty stale fast. Do the same for club races. Most people we meet in club vs. club races are rammers but there are some who are great players and it's just a shame we can't change the challenge when we are bored with it.

2. Let non-competitive clubs get their XP somehow as well. Be it in 'Follow the Leader' or 'Keep your distance' just add something like time constraints (timer, or a ref time) or a minimum distance required to travel to obtain an XP award, otherwise those challenges are more of a chore to do than anything else, and my guess that wasn't your initial intention. That will surely make them more difficult too, but better (or ANY) rewards for the challenge should compensate for that.

EDIT:

@CLR: Thanks, I'll be sure to read the guildines next time. But when I saw the topic and the opportunity to let Eden know (via official channels) in what ways players think they know how to improve their game just made me so excited that I jumped into writing without giving much thought about limitations Diablo had put on us. :P I feel like nfscu2 of TestDrive Central now (I think you should get the reference).

BTW, I deleted the post between CLR's two in order not to clutter things up, so his post is not a double post.

Updated list. Great suggestions guys, thanks a lot and keep them coming! Also don't forget you can only post 2 items per post of yours so if someone has posted after you feel free to post again but don't go nuts, use common sense so others can get in too.

Thanks.

Just 2? Sheesh ;)

#1 Smoother roads on Oahu. SO many cool drives/race have been ruined because of the 'steps' in the blacktop and invisible edges on walls.

#2 Easier to make good money (without going to the casino) so I can buy all the nice cars and houses.

Improved handling of all cars, more akin to that of hardcore mode in TDU1.

Ability to repeat cups/championships for a large reward. Not necessarily the maximum reward that you get first time around.

1. improve the communication between the players and the Developers. this is not a hard thing to do. in most game boards i looked at, there was a special sub-forum in which players could talk directly with the Developers and pass along actual information as opposed to relying on one person to handle all the questions and answers. Destra does as good of a job as can be expected, but he's only one person.

2.create test servers and a sub-forum specifically for this. when a patch is nearing completion, make it available for download and let those of us who play help out with the testing and trouble shooting.

1. Being able to change tracks from the MP lobby, reagardless of what type of MP race it is. It's hard enough to find good ranked races with good players, but after doing the same track for the 4th time I've really had enough. At least allow teh host to change tracks in ranked and club races. Maybe add an option for a 'random' playlist of tracks, where you do each track 1-3 times (or best of 3) before automatically moving on to the next (random) one.

2. More descriptive error messages. Tell us why we couldn't sign into the game today (and all week thereafter) despite being able to connect fine on previous occasions. Tell us why we couldn't join or invite a player, join a race lobby, etc. Knowledge is power, which means we're able to help ourselves a bit more (or help each other on the forums) instead of either making use of Atari support, or giving up and uninstalling the game. Heck, maybe leave the cutesy font errors just as they are, but add a button called "Advanced info', that brings up a console window with no special style or font - just pure diagnostic info.

Fix the handling! Please! The handling from TDU1 was never, ever boring, no matter how long I played. Why not use the same handling model?

And SOUNDS! Please fix the sounds! Some of them are good, the Zonda, Bugatti, and Audi S5 come to mind. But some are simply trash and need addressed.

Two things I want are the down shifts to be more realistic. in tdu2 you downshift and it jolts into the new RPM. in TDU down shifts sounded more realistic and fun.

also make the weight of the car shift when going wide open throttle between gear shifts. little things like that will make the car feel more like a car. that shift in weight just adds to the feel of driving a powerful beast.

PC - Shifter Detection

This is a real pain in the bum and step back from TDU1, TDU1 used to tell if the car you were using had flappy paddles or a gated shifter, and whilst sometimes it felt intrusive it was nice to get in a car with 7 gears and be able to use them all because the game sets your G25's shifting to the paddles automatically.

Offroad dynamics

Offroad needs to be far more slippery, you have to be going well over 100mph in a subaru to get it slidey on a hairpin... and by that token, the speed restrictor in asphalt cars needs to go too. Asphalt cars need to handle like turd offroad, so that you are restricted by your own hastiness to use your right foot (and reluctance to make a fool of yourself) rather than some supreme power which holds your hand (well, foot technically) every time you go over 50 on the rough stuff.

1) More SUV's ranging in different types such as luxury, pick-up trucks, "old junk", etc.! Examples: Hummer H1 Alpha, Cadillac Escalade (surprisingly similar to the one you already made :p), maybe an old Hilux. :)

2) Full lock steering à la Driver: San Fran and Shift 2. (Being able to spin the steering wheel more than just 90 degrees)

1. A fuel sim

+1 for this! Most members that were active here around '08/'09 (I believe) would've seen "beta" testing pictures featuring a fuel gauge. I like the idea a lot, and I think it could add to the fun and realistic aspects of the game.

We all knew how hard it would be to near-realistically implement and calculate the rate at which fuel would be depleted in cars, depending on the car and way it was driven. It would take them ages to implement, and could you imagine what sort of bugs would be associated with it if we did have it? I wouldn't want to run out of fuel half way through the Tour of the Island races because of a bug. :)
